Definitely quality products. I’d recommend a dampener for motorcycles👌

  • @RadDadisRad

I have the MagSafe case, all weather wireless charger, with the vibration dampener, the offset mount for the handlebars. I have about $200 invested for my motorcycle but I did install a mount in my truck and it works great. Don’t buy the Pro mount it’s not any better than the regular mount.
My camera on my phone broke from the vibrations before I did install the vibration isolator. So yes you need it or else your cameras will slowly fail.

@@tbillington I bought my got new bike in August, installed the mount without the vibration isolation on it September 5th, rode approximately 500 miles and on October 2nd my camera failed. Dates and mileage are accurate from pictures and texts in my phone. I ride mainly smooth paved state highways and city roads, I avoid interstates.

Love the Quad Lock. I would only say stick with Quad Lock's Ball mounting system if you have more than one motorcycle and like moving stuff around. Had a friend with the surface changer fail on a enduro ride....I think dab of blue threadlock could be helpful when assembling if its going to be treated to some rough single track.
I just run the vibration mounts and so far so good...those haven't needed any additional threadlock and have been holding up so far.

Vibration dampener worked on my IPhone 8plus and 12 pro for 4 years no problems. All hard off-road for over 12000ks. I use wireless charging head also mounted on the bars. I reckon only reason it would disconnect and fall off would be if it wasn’t seated properly. The cases do wear so replace them when they get a bit loose. I don’t mind because mine take a hammering and I like a clean looking phone and case anyway. Probably get a year and a half from a case. Make sure your window is squeaky clean for the window mount and it won’t come off. Got the mounts on my dirt bike, postie bike, mountain bike, my old Harley, 2 cars and now the wireless desk mount on my bed head. Oh yeah also have a mount on my tool box when I’m in the shed. Mates all use them now and use the phone for offline navigation in the bush. Awesome stuff.

There’s aliexpress copies you can buy as secondary mounts. I use one for the car and quality seems pretty good. Putting the stupidly high price aside get a wireless charger. Was definitely worth the extra coin for me especially with phone cables coming loose offroad

yeah seen a youtube test, they actualy held the phone a good bit stronger than the quad lock brand......... the knock off stick on pads were lacking, the quad lock stick on and the knock off base resulted in destroyed phones before the mount/stick on failed

Do Not Use without the vibration dampener or budget for a new camera. 40miles and my iPhone camera now shakes and constantly zooms in and out, spoke to few other bikers who’s had the same issue with their phones after using the quad lock, by the time you budget the dampener, waterproof poncho ….

I run OG QL on motorbike (s1000r), mountain bike, gravel bike and road bicycle. Painfully had some huge crashes on the MTB, never damaged the phone (ribs, shoulder and lung not quite so lucky). Vibration damper is needed if you have a vibby inline 4.

Great review. Yes they do loosen up after a while it chews out with the dust etc I replace them every couple of years.
Like you I thought the mag lock would be better but it just uses the magnet 🧲 to secure it does not rotate and lock so good for the car or 4WD. But no go on the bike.

Good video mate …currently using a quad lock on a Versys 650 , with dampener , ok but in landscape mode iPhone pro max 12 , hangs down on the cockpit horizontal gps mount when going over bumps .
Bought one for the 300 rally , also , thinking of getting a Garmin zumo xt 2 …as I suspect pro max iPhones are too heavy when used in landscape mode .
Wondering if Garmin comes with a mount ?
Is Gaia maps any good …what about in zero internet areas?

I had the Quadloc mount on my 2023 KLR650. I had it mounted above the dash using the GPS bar mount + the Antivibration mount. My IPhone 12 didn't even last an hour before the camera was destroyed. Apparently the IPhones are more susceptible to vibration damage than other phones. Stupid thing is, if I had mounted the phone to the handlebars, it probably wouldn't have been a problem. I still use their stuff on my Desert X, mounted to the handlebars, and have not had any issues.

    • @onthebackwheel

Yeah right, thats crazy. Mine lasted probably a year on my Pixel 6 and I'm not sure that was even caused by the quad lock (you'd presume so though)

I'm VERY happy w/ my Peak Design system. Mount on my handlebars. The moto mount for handlebars has really nice rubber shock bumpers. The system is magnet & clip in together, and have seen tests where the pressure pull off of phone from mount beat the other brands by a bit, and even w/ a small bit of damage caused, the phone still mounted again strongly. All parts of the mount I believe are aluminum. And I think the design is about as spare and rock solid as you could want. By the time you add the shock absorption to the cost of the Quad lock you are close to the same cost of the Peak Design which comes with shock absorption built in. They also offer a VERY wide assortment of mounting options for anything else you want to hold your phone in/onto. The case is beautiful and sturdy. Though I've not put the system through it's paces in horizontal mode - I doubt very strongly that you would ever have the phone coming loose from the mount and falling, as it's not a twist on. And putting on and taking off is the simplest and quickest of all these mounting systems.

I cannot understand why the things don't come standard with a a damper.
Way overpriced for bits of plastic.
For that money, I'd expect all alloy units, with damper included....
Just the extra weight of the alloy would help with damping...
Why does everything have to be built so light and flimsy?

    • @onthebackwheel
      @onthebackwheel  8 місяців тому

I think the issue you'd have with alloy is dampening and its lack of. But yeah, would be good to be a bit cheaper

There was an issue with some of the alloy mounting brackets used on some of the expensive Garmin and Wahoo bicycle computers chewing out the plastic mounts on those computers, with the attachment mechanism being similar to the push and twist mechanism used on QL. An alloy mount to a plastic case might not be a great thing?

    • @BillyBoblovesthedirt

It’s not the shaking that stuffs the camera stabilisation, it’s the high frequency vibrations which the dampener actually stops. The vibrations aren’t from bumps but from the harmonics of the engine and probably the road. I don’t think they are overly expensive considering the quality of the product. If plastic was a problem on a dirt bike or any bike for that matter then we wouldn’t be riding what we are now. Considering my phone cost nearly 2k when new I think 100 bucks is fair to make sure I can use it for navigation.
