D-Ray you are the man. I got this old 84 200s 3 wheeler from a guy at work. It hadnt run in 8 years and the muffler had rotted off. he cleaned the carb, pulled it twice and it came back to life. However the lack of a muffler was masking a engine noise. $50 bucks for the 3 wheeler and 131 dollars later for a muffler then I get a horrible scraping noise. after watching your video it seemed to be the same noise it made when you demonstrated a slack adjuster. I cranked it up, loosened the adjuster nut, it got quiet as a church mouse. Thanks YOU are the Man. Subscribed and look forward to more tips.

D-Ray, you are a freaking life saver!! I picked up an ATV 185 from an auction and of course the motor was apart (what I call a basket case) in a box. Your videos on the basic processes have been that cool breeze on my hot day! This is my first chain driven cam motor so this has been a learning experience all the way. Thank you so much for your efforts.

Finally got the 85’ Honda 200x running and surprisingly no smoke but the rattling was super loud, great trick to un jam the mechanism. She sounds waaay better thanks again for sharing your knowledge!

Super simple,... Compared to the manual that doesn't really tell you "what" your listening for or what the goal is at this point. Very helpful, thank you.

Good advice and well made video. Most Honda cam chain adjusters will move on their own when the lock nut is loosened if engine is hot. Neat trick with the long metric screw, though.

Just found this gem. Helped me and saved $200. I found a screw that was close but close enough to get a bite. Thats all u need to pull it up and it will not wreck threads.

Thankyou for posting this method! My recently acquired '81 Honda CT125 had a terrible chain rattle and the auto tensioner actually made the noise worse when I slacked off the bolt. Using a 3mm machine screw I pulled the tensioner out and the rattle is completely eliminated, the engine is now as smooth as a singer sewing machine.

Check your valve clearence, if they are good, you probably have either a worn cam bushing and/or worn rocker arm pads where they contact the cam.

Of course no store near me has a an m3x.5 screw long enough to do this. Longest I'm finding is 16mm which is very short. Also dont have any spare 3mm spokes on hand either. Hoping to adjust the chain the regular way the manual calls for by getting it running and breaking the 14mm loose and hoping it auto tensions.

I have a 2004 KLX 125, bought used in bad shape. I got it running good but it makes a horrible noise like a chain rattle. The cam chain tensioner is different from the Honda's of course because this IS THE REAL WORLD. I removed it and it moves freely. Is there any other adjustment I can do? Thank you sharing your knowledge and for affirming what I THOUGHT was causing the noise.

Release the cam chain tensioner as shown in the vid, but instead of pulling the tensioner up, push it down. that should give you plenty of slack to in stall the cam sprocket. then re-tension the chain.
