Thank god you cleared this up, have been supplementing with leucine pre workout for a few years now then read what AML said a few weeks ago and was pretty confused as to where this was all coming out of. great video, by the way you tattoos are badass
I owe you a lot dr stoppani. My wife wouldn't allow be to use supplements until I showed her testimony from someone credible about their safety and benefits. She did her homework on you and now she does not question anything you say nor do I.
Happy wife, happy life - but also happy husband, happy life. Love that you two have conversations and work together. I'm sure she was just concerned about your health!
Even before this video i've noticed: before - i would yawn and "fatigue" quit often in the gym in the first 15 mins now (while taking PreJym) I don't yawn AT ALL... and before i know it, 2 hours have passed and i'm still killing it and want more, but reality hits me that i have to get home and prepare for work... after watching this video, it all makes sense to me now.
It's kinda cute how you get so flustered about manipulated science. I love watching your videos, I always learn something. I love pre jym, and you're always my go-to for information on supps. Just wanted to give some love!
This is exactly why I exclusively use Jym products. I'm sick of being lied to, wasting my money, and compromising my body with shit products. Thank you Jim for all you are doing. We need all the help we can get. Jym Army!
Had life threatening severe insulin resistance due to a life time of eating almost only carbs and sugars (fruit, starches, breads, and limited amounts of refined sugary crap, and I stupidly did not question my diet until later into my twenties when I began to seriously research nutrition). If I eat an apple or banana (or worse, candy/cookies), all the energy in my body disappears and I feel like fainting (literally). My breathing slows down dramatically and heart rate increases, and I easily slip in and out of consciousness (my condition is a rare form, so I am not generalising this to others). It's a living hell. But if I eat meat, eggs, dairy, or unflavoured whey isolate, I feel perfectly fine. Combined with exercise and fasting, a high animal based diet (which, as you pointed out, includes leucine) helped put my insulin resistance into remission. So if you stop eating the real triggers of insulin résistance (or at least greatly minimize them), exercise, sleep properly, eat healthy, etc., then leucine should not (at least from my experience) make insulin resistance worse. Just my experience. Thanks Doc!
5-6:00 min: Apparently it is correct that leucine taken before exercises are being used as fuel and hence spare our glycogen deposits. This concept makes exercises rather expensive and for the most of us (for whom economy is not unimportant) it clearly is not a proper concept. NB: I do believe there is a proper use of leucine in the reconstitutional phase after work out.
I know leucine works well for muscle growth. However, it does make me tired because it opens up the mtor pathway. I get tired on it, so I take it right after I lift.
In 2023 (many years after this video was posted) 60 servings of L-IsoLeucine 2,000mg 240 capsukes 60 servings in pill form cost me 0.07 cents per pill or $15.95 for the bottle. Manufactures by Nutricost a well known and established USA supplement maker and a GMP/NSF accredited lab thays FDA registered. They provide no nonsense cheap supps.
L Leucine really does work. But I emplor you, do not take it right before a workout. You will be dragged, sluggish, and weak. That's what you will feel taking it right before a workout. After a workout is when you should take this supplement. Trust me, I've been taking it at various times to test for results. I'm telling you, after a workout is when you should take it, preferably mixed with a whey protein. You'll thank me later.
You have all my trust and support, haters will hate and "fake supplements" will always be on the market but thanks to you we are all being informed about the REAL deal. I took 2 weeks off from using PreJym....well it was the crappiest time of my life in the gym! This tells me your products WORK and give results. I've been on Alpha Jym for a week now and feel some positive changes already.
You've got to get to the point and address the subject of leucine efficiently. I feel like addressing the criticism of other brands/companies vs bringing direct and useful information is low value. How many people care about the truth about Leucine vs some claim by a new company on the block? 14 mins is too long, you could have condensed this into 5 and instantly increased the value to your viewers. Love your products and I loved your workout plan on bodybuilding.
Curious to see what company was saying all this.. I had an opportunity to become a big time supplement company rep but turned them down cause I could NOT be apart of their company because what jim has taught me.. thanks doc!!!
Finally someone is confronting the bullshit supplement industry. Keep it up. Like ur supps. Use to take almost exactly what's in prejym but as separate ingredients for years but such a headache. Now just take prejym. I like the convenience and it works
I take a protein supplement in the morning, before training, after training, and later at night. Aren't I getting enough BCAA's through my daily protein consumption?
well i also study biochemistry and the problem with branch chain amino acids is because they can block the tryptophan they can also cause depression because they take up tryptophans spot so the serotonin is lowered so its a double edge sword .you can either take branch chain amino acids and get good muscles and be a bit down or depressed or dont take it be happy but not get the muscle building benefits .if it was me wanting to build muscle id just eat eggs .eggs have certain acids that increase testosterone and build muscle faster than any supplement .eggs truly are the king of bodybuilding foods without eggs in your diet forget weight training thats how important eggs are i ate 3 eggs a day for 2 months and my testosterone actually doubled it was insane to see such a result from eggs alone.
Jason Thai BCAA's do cause the inhibition for tryptophan, yes. However, tryptophan and other alpha amino acids aren't the only ways to increase serotonin. Also, if you know biochemistry, you know that serotonin is very similar in structure to dopamine, which is very similar to norepinephrine. Stimulants, such as the caffeine in Jym pre will cause a spike in norepinephrine, which mixed with an intense workout, will increase dopamine as well. Given the similarities in these structures, they can be altered and sent through the same neurotransmitters as serotonin. Hence why Adderal is such a commonly used drug for depression instead of just SSRI's or SNRI's. Unfortunately, those spike cortisol, which WILL have an impact on muscle mass. If you're truly worried about serotonin reuptake, then when you finish at the gym, stay out in the sunlight for a good 20 minutes or so. Take your shake and glucose (I use gummy bears because of the protein per serving, and they're delicious) and go for a walk. Not only will the natural light increase serotonin production, but you're also further allowing the nutrition you just took in to go through your metabolic pathways. I walk my dogs every single time I get home, and just the consistency helps balance neurotransmitters and reduces cortisol dramatically. It's not intensive, so I'm not losing what I just worked for, and it feels great. Eggs are outstanding, but chances of them being the reason your testosterone was doubled its unlikely, unless you didn't eat fats whatsoever before. Remember, fats are crucial in hormonal production. Chances are, there was something else in your regiment that might have done so, such as hitting legs if you hadn't normally done that, or getting enough sleep, taking aspartemic acid, etc. Don't kick BCAA's to the curb, they're still very important for producing muscle mass and density, and there's many alternatives you can consider when worrying about your limbic pathways and endocrine system. Kudos for the improvement brother, may your goals come with many challenges, and each of them provide a learning experience.
I get all of my protein from plants and dairy... I am ripped and lean as fuck. I don't care what anyone says, vegetarians can build amazing muscles. The secret: dairy. Milk is the highest natural source of leucine, not only that but the protein in milk breaks down into signalling peptides, which stimulate muscle-growth like none other! Milk is the most anabolic substance on Earth. Whole-milk and a low-fat starch-based diet to bulk... and skim-milk and a low-fat starch-based diet to cut... BOOM, you're golden boi!
I accidentally bought L-Luecin and it’s Vegan!! But I can feel it I’m Digesting food like a teenager and I’m pretty sure it’s been a bigger factor in my building (muscle) I do A hill sprint/weighted squats and my upper body is just deferent push ups and Waited dips I’m 43-years old and all this has got me feeling really good. Can anybody tell me if I’m really getting a lot of this from the L-Leucine(Vegan)? And what’s the deference between Animal and Vegan Leucine? And how do I no what to order what to call it to find Animal braised Leucine? I also keep Creatine in my system but I’m feeling way more Results since I started adding L-Leucine(Vegan) to my food and Protein shakes after my work outs.
Sounds very interesting bro. Vegan leucine is from legumes I believe. I think I recently bought some as well. Looking forwards to taking them post workout with my food to see what results I get.
Been using branched aminos for years now including L tyrosine NEVER experienced energy. Just incredible recovery and fastest muscle gain. L carnitine and L argenine is the only aminos that gives me incredible pump and energy and its dirt cheap for good quality too. I never buy these from GNC or in small expensive tubs. Even at 30 dollars it would be incredibly over priced.
this is seriously why i absolutely love this guy's supplements. He knows his shit better than most of these bullshit companies. Yes his products are a bit spend but you get what you pay for.
nope nope I believe Jim was saying that the competitor is charging $70 for their 20 serving pre workout, and he theorizes that they had to cut corners by taking out an expensive ingredient like Leucine. He didn’t actually put a dollar amount on Leucine itself.
Good job Jim,I do not practice any sport but every body asks how many times I got to the gym to build my shape hahahaha The only thing I do is l-leucine because my brother forgot his bottle in my house
Very informative, bring on the truth doc! I was wondering what you think of the novel new addition to pre workout supplements called Agmatine sulfate? Also, what do you think about silk amino acids? This info could really help the public! Thanks!
You should buy your leucine from Europe. It's $50/Kg over here. I don't know how much you are taking for a 'serving' but $34 for twenty "servings' is stupid. Labs here recommend that you take 2-5g for 'acute' usage, so that 200 - 500 servings for $50 ; or $0.2 to $0.5 per serving if you are taking large amounts. I hardly think that a company charging $35 or $70 a tub for 20 servings of sugar and leucine will find that too expensive, especially since they will be buying in bulk and so getting it a lot cheaper than $50 per kilo.
Hi Dr. Stoppani. I have done your shortcut to shred program before: results were stellar! I need more pre workout and protein. I will be purchasing your supplements. Also, I usually only take pre workout on low repetition days. Is this a good idea? Please advise.
How exactly you will have increased tryptophan->serotonin (and possibly melatonin as it is the final neurotransmitter on this pathway) while you training WHILE your epinephrine will be high?????Epinephrine increass during high intensity training.
Jim, I know this was an old publication but the truth is still the same, That, Science is today called Cheque Book Science. A company goes to the scientists and say: "This is what we want you to find, here's $50,000. We'll come back in a months time".
I really hope you reply or anyone because I have a presentation on Muscle protein synthesis in two days.. I just have one question. Glucose is the preferred energy source by the body, meaning if our bodies have a choice between using ketones and glucose, they'll go for glucose first. But the BCAA leucine is ketogenic as opposed to glucogenic.. Why would the body use those aminos that convert to ketones for energy before glycogen?
Dr. Jim, is there a preferred dosage? I'm talking minimum and more importantly maximum dosage? I do take BCAA's pre workout, but I buy leucine in bulk for post workout and mix the powder with my shake. I know everyone is different, but I figured you would be the best person to ask.
I pay less than 70 for a pound of great quality pure branch chained aminos and lucine. None GMO no additives micro filtered if i want too. Last nearly half a year i take it 4 times a day. 60 bucks for just a month Lucien is deff taking advantage of the fitness community.
Please develope some type of supplement geared toward the Military. Long missions, calorie burning during extreme ruck trails in Afghanistan or cold training in Alaska. Arctic MRE's are too carb high. Maybe a water mixable powder. Easy to consume and benefits the mission.
This guy has been talking so long that the protein shake on the table has settled back into layers, water on the top protein product on the bottom.
😂😂😂
Thanks for fighting the good fight, Jim! A lot of us appreciate a guy like you.
He sounds like Shawn Michaels
Thank god you cleared this up, have been supplementing with leucine pre workout for a few years now then read what AML said a few weeks ago and was pretty confused as to where this was all coming out of. great video, by the way you tattoos are badass
I just purchased luicine. I got 100 servings for $21. Can't wait to try it. I've been taking creatine and whey protein daily.
Update?
And the update?...
I owe you a lot dr stoppani. My wife wouldn't allow be to use supplements until I showed her testimony from someone credible about their safety and benefits. She did her homework on you and now she does not question anything you say nor do I.
My wife wouldn't allow me?? Come on bruh....

Yeah, the modern epidemic of cuck husbands
Happy wife, happy life - but also happy husband, happy life. Love that you two have conversations and work together. I'm sure she was just concerned about your health!
This guy looks like Batista with Shawn Michaels voice.
Great, now I can't just listen to this without thinking it's a WWF promo. haha
Even before this video i've noticed:

after watching this video, it all makes sense to me now.
Michael Reedy II hello mate what site I can check out jims stuff do you know cheers?
I thought you were the chef from Food Network. This is my first time looking into leucine. Thanks for the info

I like how you rant around Dr, because it shows your passion. Science and Passion behind JYM that's why I tried JYM and I totally recommended.
He was not wrong about he's going to ramble. This could have been great if he'd just gotten to the points.
Thank u Dr. Jim for the real information. The only trusted man

I body build and use a 10 hour feeding window to help counter the possible "insulin resistance"
Obviously, Doc is pissed off.
Respect to Jim for debunking myths! : )
I could feel the difference after the first time I mixed it with my post-workout. Even felt the difference the next morning.
Thanks Jim, Your still the fittest Fit Professor.

leucine doea not cost 70 dollars per 20 servings. that is a rediculous claim on like 9 different levels.
nope nope I believe Jim was saying that the competitor is charging $70 for their 20 serving pre workout, and he theorizes that they had to cut corners by taking out an expensive ingredient like Leucine. He didn’t actually put a dollar amount on Leucine itself.
The bottom line is eat meat, fish, eggs you get all that leucine

Great video and very informative! Thanks :)
Hi Dr. Stoppani. I have done your shortcut to shred program before: results were stellar! I need more pre workout and protein. I will be purchasing your supplements. Also, I usually only take pre workout on low repetition days. Is this a good idea? Please advise.
Only that carbohydrates (the healthy ones) do not cause insulin resistance.Lack of exercise MOSTLY influence insulin resistance.
+Jotun Heim which are the healthy ones?
From sweet potatoes and whole grain pasta till quinoa and buckwheat.Plenty of choises.
Well educated person thanks
What drink is on the table? Looks like there's 2 liquids.
you're 100% right !!!!
How exactly you will have increased tryptophan->serotonin (and possibly melatonin as it is the final neurotransmitter on this pathway) while you training WHILE your epinephrine will be high?????Epinephrine increass during high intensity training.
oh god i WISH pre jym was only $34!! Up here in Canada, it's almost 50!
+deeshmond Youre still lucky. here in NZ I've seen it for like $70-80
+deeshmond and its only the 20 serving, the 30 its mots like 68 ! for myself i train 7 day a week so i need the big one..
Where can I get it in Canada?
+Brian de Lima I've only seen it on bodybuilding.com
Thanks so much !
This product here is impressive. I take it
Leucine cost more like 20$ for 20 servings, not 70$, that’s waaaayy too much
Chef Robert Irvine dubbed over by Shawn Michaels?
Jim, I know this was an old publication but the truth is still the same, That, Science is today called Cheque Book Science. A company goes to the scientists and say: "This is what we want you to find, here's $50,000. We'll come back in a months time".

So, he's putting down a supplement company but sits with his supplement right in front of hm. I would shy away from this guy.

Why would the body use those aminos that convert to ketones for energy before glycogen?
you're a good man!
"I didn't get my phd in the mail" I LOL'd. It doesn't get any better than the jym product line.
My proteins servings only qualify with 3 grams leucine
i like your style, u do you. keep it up great video.
Can't stop watching the shaker bounce around.....
BEST PRE WORKOUT ON MARKET !
does anyone know the supplement Dr. Stoppani is talking about?
😂MAAAN THIS GUY GOT IN SOMEBODY ASS KNEE DEEP 🔥😂😂😅 GREAT VIDEO AND I USUALLY DONT 👍 VIDEOS BUT HE GETS ONE TDAY!! THANKS BRO✌✊✊
The reason I'm here is because I took berberine with leucine
How long does it’s stay in your system?
Thank god he's not doing any product placement or have any advertisement plastered on his cloths
Theory will only take you so far
Only reliable brand out there.
Thanks. The only thing I don't like is the caffeine.
Great job buddy
Is there a certain diet for A+ blood type?
What kind of shaker bottle is that?!
Dude jim is getting heated somebody find him a bench press
, I think I might start taking pre jym if it's available when my other stuff runs outs
Love this, great facts buddy so much rubbish and misinformation out there.
can you take this product if you are doing a cut for a show and if you are on a low carb diet?
Yes
Dr. Jim, is there a preferred dosage? I'm talking minimum and more importantly maximum dosage? I do take BCAA's pre workout, but I buy leucine in bulk for post workout and mix the powder with my shake. I know everyone is different, but I figured you would be the best person to ask.
Your a good guy
Thumbs up and subscribed!
can women take this?
I train fasted and you said leucine breaks your fast so which is it?
Leucine will break a fast. Anything that is not water will break a fast.
I pay less than 70 for a pound of great quality pure branch chained aminos and lucine. None GMO no additives micro filtered if i want too. Last nearly half a year i take it 4 times a day. 60 bucks for just a month Lucien is deff taking advantage of the fitness community.
I cannot wait until i have a salary and i can just buy jym supplements regularly
Playback at 1.5x speed thank me later
Please develope some type of supplement geared toward the Military. Long missions, calorie burning during extreme ruck trails in Afghanistan or cold training in Alaska. Arctic MRE's are too carb high. Maybe a water mixable powder. Easy to consume and benefits the mission.
Their talking shit jim
I've taken it pre - post and post evening cardio for last few years and it works great

sounds like a conspiracy theory
lucine Decrease insuline or Increase the insuline realise??
