    Not surprised the assistant didnt know what paraffin was,the modern petrol station is more interested in selling pies and pasties rather than oil and bulbs,another great video martin,keep up the good work

  • @caskwith
    @caskwith 6 років тому

    Good bit of kit there. To get the most out of your fluid and filters, try and do as much pre-cleaning as you can before you put it in the parts washer. Stiff brush, air compressor etc. Get as much of the loose dust and muck off as you can and just use the washer for greasy oily bits and your fluid will last much longer and save you a load of money in the long run.

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  6 років тому

      Yes, I still plan on doing that but its a good point.

    Great video, Martin. I'm sure you will love the parts washer. I have a Clarke as well, and I don't know how I got along without it. Farm tractor parts get so filthy. On a side note, I'm from Michigan, USA. My father in law worked at Pontiac Motors, and built the engine in your buddy's Trans am. I guess it's a small world after all. Cheers.

    Nice new toy. I'd definitely recommend wearing PVC gloves, (preferably Gauntlet's), when using that Martin. That cleaning solution will take the natural oils out of your skin if you use it frequently. It can be very painful. Also wear eye protection, every time, too.

    Does it not stink out the workshop?? We used to mix paraffin with petrol to degrease an engine ( using a paintbrush) with an oil leak then rinse it off with hot water. Much cheaper than Gunk.

    Hi Martin, I have a parts washer same as yours and do a lot of cleaning, changed the pump for an high pressure 12volt fuel pump and put on a external oil filter to filter the solvent to keep it clean. Best to buy a 25ltr drum of solvent degreaser from a chemical supplier works out a lot cheaper and stay away from the water based cleaner its useless.

    Double love this one Martin. I've got a 1966 Triumph Vitesse so loved the rally Herald and Spit. I've commented before to say you've saved me shed loads by getting my Hayter running as opposed to taking it to a shop to get serviced. Anyway can you do a shout out please, not for me but for my other half Kerrie. She always moans when I disturb her watching Emmerdale or something, by watching your far superior vids. Excellent stuff. keep 'em coming. Cheers, Stewart.

    Hi Martin. With regard to the Scimitar. Most commonly fitted with Essex V6 3.0 lutre but some had a 2.5 litre for better fuel economy .. yeah right!! Very early ones had the old Zodiac straight six and very late ones (and very rare) had the 2.8 Cologne piece of shite Being Ford based you could fit most of their units in with a good set of spanners and some patience. Saw one at a heritage rally couple of years ago with BDA in it!! Car worth about three grand .. Engine worth ten!

    It's always a shame the first time you use the fluid and it goes black, one of our mechanics used to wash his drain pans as soon as it got changed and turned it pitch black. When you have the brush connected, check the nozzle is pointing in the washer in case the hose comes off and it pumps it all on the floor!

      Thanks Eddie, someone said to put a jubilee clip on it to stop that happening.

      retrorestore it makes it a pain to pull off then if you want to leave something soaking under the spout then. We use the safety clean ones at work, just watch for stray sparks, I've had one on fire before!

    I don't think this is supposed to be mixed with Paraffin... The parts washer fluid is to be mixed with water

    Probably would've been better buying the parrifin or kerosene from a fuel fluids distributor where you could have it in a 25 litre drum like what jimmy buys when it's thinners probably work out cheap that way

    Your new parts washer will pay for itself in no time at all. You're absolutely correct about today's youth: Most of them can't add two plus two to make four without their calculators or 'Smart Devices'. I like to call them 'VIDIOTS'. You know yourself in our day children were an integral part of the household labour force. We were expected to learn how to and perform chores around the house with no expectation of monetary reward. We were happy with our supper and a warm bed. By the time we were 13 or 14, we could go out into the workforce and produce. Nowadays producing is being on SnapChat or FaceBook all day long. They've been dumbed down. Their parents are too knackered to even discipline little Johnny and there you have it. Thanks for the rant.
