- Exhaust video of my new exhaust set-up. Love the sound, no exhaust drone inside the cabin. There is a bit more road noise then usual due to the winter tires (Cooper Weathermaster ST-2).
Car: 2011 Ford Fusion Sport AWD (3.5L Duratec)
Cameras: Canon Vixia HF R600 and GoPro Hero 3+
Exhaust: Gutted pre-cats, gutted cats, factory resonators (2), factory piping, Vibrant UltraQuiet Resonators (MRT) and 4" Magnaflow tips.

I own a 2010 also in silver metallic clearcoat Love it! Mine is stock but has the rare leather racing seats with the blue perforated inserts. Stock 6 disk Sony premium disk changer stereo too!
That’s awesome! They’re fun cars for sure! When I got mine I had the option to go for the blue inserts but I stuck with all black. Glad you like it!
Sounds good bro! Kinda cool how you came flying out of the fog like a scene out of a movie...lol
Haha thanks! I wasn't planning on the fog but it turned out well!
My cats from right , and left sides where hollowed out now 2012 FUSION SPORT 3.5L . BY
MY MECHANIC OK WITH ME . Symptoms : Chech Enigh Light On ,Bad Gas Mileage ,Nasty Exhaust Egg Smell , and Rough Idling Engine stalls from Revving The RPM
I heard it’s a pretty bad smell when your cats fail. Good reason to hollow them out!
Did you notice a lot with punching out the stock pre cats. I’ve read they’re the main restriction on the exhaust.
grant taylor yes, there is a nice bump with the cats removed. Compounded with ported intake manifolds and the maxbore throttle body and it REALLY wakes up the car!
What exhaust
I have all the details in the description! Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any questions
How would this car delete sound on the 2.5 engine? Because my current setup right now, is a muffler and resonator delete. I have the 2.5 engine and the muffler and resonator delete isn’t too obnoxious, but it sound awesome.
Taking the cats out would likely increase volume and possibly make it more raspy too. If it’s already too obnoxious it would only make things worse.
@@99MCougar if I get a cat delete, I’m thinking of throwing a evil energy muffler on too tone it down if it’s too loud without the cat. Resonator and cat delete with the evil energy muffler I just hope it’s still loud a little bit but toned down
The muffler should help tone things down. You could always try the muffler first and if it sounds good but a little on the quiet side then go ahead and cut out the cats. It will turn up the volume a bit. Keep in mind if you have any emissions testing you won’t pass.
@@99MCougar I might just get a high flow cat honestly
nice vid sounds good fusion 👊
Becausebass362 thanks!
Any issues with cel after gutting cats? Did the tune cover the change in flow or was the original tune that you did just cover it? Some say you you do but maybe they dont assume that you already do? I have a 2010 Sport...
Hey there, the tune I have disabled the downstream O2 sensors. I had the tune done before they came down on the tuners for turning them off. I think tuners now have to leave them on. I have heard that the O2 foolers work well though.
I know I’m late but did gutting the pre cats add any hp?
And are the pre cats inside of the exhaust manifold “headers” ?
Not late at all, never hurts to ask! I never had the car on the dyno but it did feel like it had a bit more power. As far as location yes they’re in the manifolds/headers. If you drop the Y-pipe and look up you will see them. They are 2 stage cats so there is a cat after the O2 sensor and one before in each manifold. I took out the O2 sensors to be sure I didn’t damage them and re-installed. Keep in mind if you have emissions testing the car will fail without cats and you will have a check engine light unless you get the O2 foulers or a tune to turn off downstream O2 sensors.
@@99MCougar im in a MKZ same drivetrain as you already tuned by "tuning by james" tunes will work catless but will still have the check engine light i plan on getting inspected soon and then removing the Pre cats in the headers. Hoping to pick up a little bit of power not much aftermarket support for us besides, intakes and tunes. Do you know if anyone just makes long tube headers or just better headers in general?
@@aidanstitzer7316 the MKZ is a great car too, a Fusion in a tuxedo lol. They just came down on tubing companies recently who were turning off the O2 sensors (so you don’t get an engine light) for guys running no cats. I don’t think there is many that are ok with it these days. No long tube headers for sure, I’m not even sure there would be enough room. No aftermarket headers but there was a guy that made 3.5L Altima headers work with modification on his FWD Sport. As far as other aftermarket you can port the intake manifolds and get a bigger throttle body from Max bore. That really helps the engine breathe. You can also port the heads. Plus you could do a 3.7L swap. Supersix motor sports has some other things available like cams too.
@@99MCougar I would 100% get cams. Supersix makes cams for this motor or is it for a different motor but fits to ours ?
can you feel a performance gain from gutting the cats?
+Wolfie Rc the butt dyno says itd making more. Especially on the top end! So much more fun to drive!
Gutted cats cause you to lose power not gain. It creates more turbulence in the exhaust flow. You're better off just leaving them in place as is, replacing with high flow cats, or removing them altogether for the max performance.
Salar Esfahani no headers or high flow cats available for these cars. Other guys with Fusion Sports have been running faster times with gutted cats.
I already ran 14.4 at 96mph which I'm very pleased with that but if gutting the cats can get me alittle quicker on the top end with the car retuned for it I bet it'll help. who, how did you decatt it?
Wolfie Rc Thats a great run! I'm not too sure if there is a huge change in the tune other then turning off the rear O2 sensors. it was very easy. I popped off the Y-pipe and took out the O2 sensors then just tapped away at the cats from under the car. I used a long chisel and hammer. I think it took around 45min per cat
Would this make you fail safety inspection though?
A safety inspection no. Emissions testing? Yes. We only have safety inspections here for vehicles 10+ years old
hey @FuseMedia I have a fusion sport also and I'm trying to get a good set up was wondering what you used from MRT.
Thanks
Alexander Kavanaugh hey there. MRT uses Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonators for their kit. I got the Vibrants off of Amazon and had my local exhaust shop mount it in place of the rear mufflers
did you get a a check engine light when you deleted your cat ?
Matthew Bacnis I would have but I have a tune to turn off the downstream O2 sensors. I’m not 100% sure if tuners are allowed to do that anymore though. They are a 2 stage cat so each manifold has 2 layers of catalytic converter. If you remove the lower one after the O2 sensor I believe you will be fine and not have an engine light
You think it would be overkill to have 1 vibrant res in place of the original resonator, then the other two in place of the mufflers? Is that a weird overkill?
Dave Lagowski do you have gutted cats too?
FuseMedia no, but what i stated abovr is what im thinking of doing
Dave Lagowski I don't think it would be overkill. There are two resonators though so I would cut one out and do the vibrants in place of the rear mufflers. I imagine it would sound similar to my car since I have both resonators in place.
I have a F-150 with the 3.5 Duratec. I'm planning on cutting out the muffler and replacing it with a Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator.
Mel Laknanurak thats awesome! I was thinking of doing the same thing with our Explorer Sport!
Did these have 4 cats? If so if you remove 2 of the 4, would you be able to pass inspection?
Yes they have 2 stage cats so 2 in each manifold. You can punch out the lower cat after the O2 sensor and to my knowledge will still pass the sniff test. If it’s a visual inspection you can’t tell if all 4 cats are all gone.
@@99MCougar I'm planning on getting a Fusion sport. Since I'm in New York, I'm only taking out 2 of the cats. Now that you mentioned taking out the lower cats, that's what I'll remove to still be able to pass NYS inspection
Will The Thrill yeah someone on the FB group removed the lower ones and I believe they were able to pass. In theory it should be fine because the O2 sensor detects the exhaust that’s coming through the first cat so anything downstream of that O2 sensor should be fine to remove
