@autumnagain the South in the actual civil war left for taxes AND slavery. And the north fought the secession for taxes not slavery. To quote Lincoln's first adress “The power confided to me will be used to hold, occupy, and possess the property and places belonging to the government, and to collect the duties (tariffs) and imposts (import taxes); but beyond what may be necessary for these objects, there will be no invasion, no using of force against or among the people anywhere.” (Paragraph 21). The North only attacked the seceding south because of taxes and tariffs by their own admission. The whole slavery thing came later when public and foreign opinion was Indanger of turning against the war (the British in particular were considering intervention against the union) And FYI *after* the South seceded congress past an amendment to make slavery permanent (the corwin amendment) with a 2 3rds majority. This was done to get the South back peacefully (essentially telling them that their fears over slavery were unfounded). But this did not help as the issue of taxation was just as big an issue. The South was responsible for paying over half the federal revenue, yet 75% of federal revenue was spent in northern states and the South was only 1/3rd of representatives. Rightly wrongly they saw this as unfair and unjust. -> a related issue is that of tarrifs. Lincoln raised tarrifs from 20%-40% in March 1861 and ~200% for steel products {morrill act}, the south wanted lower tariffs (and the Confederacy lowered tariffs to 10% in May 1861). The emancipation proclamation? It gave the southern states 3 months to rejoin the union and keep their slaves. The war was over taxes and tariffs and what was seen as unfair spending thereof. Just like in star wars. The only difference is the union tried to get the confeds back peacefully by guaranteeing slavery (while the republic wnet strait to war) although it didn't work. I am not a fan of the south's slavery, I am just against the idea that the South seceded and fought a war for slavery and only slavery. Because it goes against the evidence.

The fact that the Confederacy of Independent Systems were buddies with the Zygerrian and Trandoshan slavers, and the fact that they literally enslaved the Nelvaanians and the Togrutans, makes this even more accurate.
They actually did touch up on something like a "Lost Cause" for the Separatists a few times pointing out how corrupt or inept the Republic was and the amount of power the Jedi had. I think it was also covered that the crimes committed by the droid army never got to the Separatist public so they legitimately didn't know. A lot better than the actual "Lost Cause".
I would say voting to make slavery permanent (corwin amendment) in order to lure back half your country that just seceded and then pretending to be anti-slavery the whole war (and pretend the whole war was over slavery) is pretty morally reprehenceable. After all what's more morally reprehensible openly pro-slavery but sticking to your other points when offered to keep slavery by constitutional ammendment, or being pro-slavery or atleast OK with it and then lieing about your stance after the fact. Both are pro-slavery but 1 is also a liar.
Unlike in the real world, the CIS didn’t have a “lost cause” myth. The Outer Rim were being abused by the core systems and wanted to separate. They got co-opted by megacorps and the Sith, but they weren’t any worse than the Republic who were being co-opted by not just the very same megacorps but by Palpatine as well.
