Good test and yeah, good watts per dollar here. I do also wish they would not overrate these amps. I have the Cobalt 3500.1d, will test it soon. I don't think it's 1750 watts either, probably 1500'ish. Orion has hinted on a true 2kW amp for around 200 in January 2008. We shall see!

Agreed, I always like helping people setup their car stuff, and they always ask questions... I use both your ratings to determine what amplifier they should buy, what upgrades they need to do and ect. I bought the cb600 for the reason I know its not 600 watts but, it is probably 200 RMS at least... Orion does make stuff where its actually under rated. BigDWiz showed an XTR, and I think i've seen a HCCA.

The box says 5000 watts, in what Universe does Orion gets those ratings? Do they thing ever one is stupid?

I think the best budget amp is the CAB 1600 I have 2 running 2 Sundown X-12’s built by Dave Lieb that are rated at 2500 watts each.

Excellent question... Thier are big difference..... And for me high damping and 10hz flat are required...I listen to rave music for the 10hz!!!

I have this exact amp but I haven't hooked it up yet. Thanks for the dyno. Now I know. Even though cobalt is their budget line, I wish they wouldn't over rate them. At least it's not by much like some of the others. 👍
4/9/2020 well I finally hooked this amp and I'm runnin it at 1ohm. I'm pushing 2 Skar sdr 12s and let me say this thing is loud.
I love my XTR750.4 which are running my components as well as temporarily running my 10in CT Sounds Tropo at 4ohms bridged till i get a monoblock next payday. Would recommend that series 4 channel pending ur needs for RMS 2 anyone. Worth the funds.
I still have that old school Orion Cobalt amp at 1:34... she still works and is running a 8 inch Sony subwoofer in my business. Running off a regulated 13.8 volt 20 amp supply. Alpine head unit runs 4 PSB bookshelf speakers as well. Pretty kickass little system for a small business.

Their Xtr amp is way more worth it the cobalt is their cheapest line up they offer
I saw the CEA logo on the box as it appears all Orion amps have. Did Orion not provide the CEA rating in the manual? They claim RMS numbers that the amp can't achieve while displaying the CEA logo on the packaging. I smell deception at the least, and illegal advertising at the worst. Excellent test and exposure of deceptive marketing tactics which run rampant in this industry. Keep up the great work!
Solid ethics brother. You're taking one for the team and swinging at foul balls just to see how they taste. The team never plays better without someone testing the pitchers. If you can't make them honest then we'll all see them lie. Pat on the back to you and obviously to the other testers as well.
I have one and matched it to a pioneer that was rated +100 watts more than the amp. Blew that one and the replacement.
Been looking into the xtrs how do they sound? I have 2 mb quart ZA1 1500.a/b they definitely close to rated they push my 2 ab xr 12s to the max and sound so good ntb for what i paid.

Can you test another "5000 watt" cheap amp like the crunch pz-5020.1d ? It has 120 amp fusing and sonic elelectronix sold it as cea-2006 compliant.

Have you every tested a Sony XM-D9001GTR? It's rated 550 rms @ 4 ohms and 900 rms @ 2 ohms

There's not many amps out there for $120 that'll give ya over 1k watts. In my book, this is most definitely a gem. Love this amp. The guts aren't that bad either for the price. This is nowhere near the power of my Xtr 1500.1 but, it's pretty good value at half the price.

Yes it probably in between the budget busting good deal but I was going to buy that amp or after watching this don't really need it
35hz port tune are down should be good with a 25hz sub sonic. I guess they put so because most orion sub speaker have a resonant frequency 25hz oppose to other speaker with around 40 hz so it more difficult to bottom out a orion sub.
I am seeing the old style(like this one) COBALT cb1500.1d selling for $91. It has THREE 40 amp fuses but is rated at 800watts@1ohm. Very weird. There are many underrated orion amps out there. I would love for someone to pick one up and report back. I would myself but I already have 6 amplifiers so I need to start weening myself off the fix.

On Amazon.ca the cobalt CB2500.1D sells for $232.98 shipped while the slightly more powerful, Boss AR4000D (900w certified 1400w dynamic) sells for $182.02 shipped (Canadians get hosed eh?).
An extra 50 bucks for an Orion label and an older board design is fail, might as well pitch in the extra money for the Darth Vader looking bastard, the Boss PD5000 with over 1300 watts certified.

Being that this is a old video my comment might not get answered... but what should I set my amp to? I bought a rockvill k9 and the sub hardly moves like it needs more power. I have my gain all the way up (hardly moved the sub) then I turned my bass boost up and it started moving but I have head that bass boost functions are bad
I would check a few things... first what year is your 2500? If it looks different than this one the power specs may be much lower... also what about your crossover settings
@@bigblank69 I’m a little knew to the bass world so bare with me lol. I bought it this year and the name of it was “Orion CB2500.1D Cobalt Series 2500W Class D Monoblock 1 Channel Car Amplifier”. What do you mean by crossover? The sub I have is a 4 ohm that I have wired to a 2 ohm configuration.

Hey Ryan do you test other people's amps if they see send them to you I have a Sony gtx1852 amplifier 1000 watts want to know the true power no it's nowhere near 1000 watts
The bridged 4 ohm RMS output of the Sony GTX1852 is around 435 watts.
Every amp put outs out different power, some more some less, this makes a good base line what to expect.
But I would expect more form the name Orion.. no matter the mother company.
Fuzzy Cat Nuts I realize it's a budget amp,, but look at fosgate, and Mtx budget amps the do over rated..
In the 90,s I ran Mtx Thunder 2160's my buddy had the Orion's and my other buddy ran fosgate.. Those were the amps in the day...lol

K so I have a dumb question ...
I've run a few flea market amps and a few main stream amps in the class d style mono blocks and the sound they make differ enough for me to pick it up. I've also run some cheap and some not cheap a/b amps and I've noticed even the cheap a/b amps have that solid low , more felt than heard , type bass ( I call it hammering ) at lower wattage levels....so the question is what happens in the a/b amps cus they are less efficient than d but seem to have way more dynamic perf.

Heads up: Orion has dropped newest models with the same model num (cb2500.1d) but less power. I purchased the newest version of this amp (same model num) unknowingly and instead of four 30amp fuses it now comes with two 40 amps fuses. The amp says 2500max instead 5k and its less money but WHY THE SAME MODEL NUM ORION! Stupid sending it back

I wish I saw this video before I bought this one. I bought it because Orion, CEA rated. I have a total of 800wrms subs was going to run it at 2ohm to get the CEA rated 860w now that I know that's not happening. Looks like I'll run 1ohm and turn it down a bit. CEA is a joke we can only trust what we can see even when it comes to well known brands, so we need to thank guys like Ryan and BigD. Thanks
