I am blind but I appreciate that you make these scriptures come alive to me so I can see them in my mind. Thank you so much for these lessons they are very important to me.
The last scripture you shared in 15 was actually the answer I shared with my daughter when she was asking me how she could help her friends who are struggling. Bring them into our homes and strengthen them.
To go with Alma 14 discussion of why is God not saving them from the fire, I was reading in my Humanities class this week and came upon this quote to why does evil exist in a world created by a perfectly good God? "For God to remove evil from the world, he would need to remove free will. A world without free will was worse than a world without evil. Therefore a world where there was the possibility of evil was the best of all possible worlds." Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716) It is a blessing to have agency and we some how have to let others have their agency to choose good or evil too. (Which sucks sometimes 😜)
I absolutely love each video lesson you both post each week. This particular lesson was amazing! (Loved last week--you didn't eat the kids!!) YOU NAILED IT! More than ever, we need scriptures that parallel today's challenges. The people of Nehor STILL want to take over mankind. All those secret combinations, rioters, and troubles of our day mirror what Alma and Amulek faced so long ago. Emily, like you, fingers crossed, I too desire to be on the earth when the Lord comes. This is a very exciting and incredible time we live in. Keep up the great lessons, you and David. I pray God's blessings to be with you both as you continue to teach and inspire. 🌹🙇💕
One day.... you will get all that you deserve. Never thought about that in a blessings point of view. Only in a negative way. But for those that didn't get experiences in this life that they mourn for. It will give comfort that you will receive this and more!!

Christopher - your time stamp is amazing! Thank you! I have been searching back through all of the lessons to try and find where Emily is talking about how to resist temptation. It was probably in January or February. Do you recall which lesson that was in?
Karen LaCouture yes! It was the week of Jacob 1-4. The acronym was ANTHEM. Look at the time stamps that week and you will see ANTHEM along with a scripture reference. Hope this helps.
Christopher Patch: Thank you so much for making these time stamps. It makes it so much easier. Also when you put a link to the inklings meeting I was so surprised and excited because I did not know of the meeting existed. I’m excited to now watch the whole meeting. How wonderful Emily put that meeting together.
If anyone knows about second chances, it's Alma. I think it was no coincidence that Alma was the one to meet Zeezrom and give him that second chance to make things right.
So I know I’m a little late. But zeezrom is seriously one of my favorite Book of Mormon hero’s. As someone who lost his way for awhile, I’ve also just resonated with him
That’s a busy vibrant household in the background!💕Keep hearing the kiddos in the background and thinking mine are up to something 😂 it’s all good, I’m dealing with my misophonia squirrel 🐿 Brain! It’s starting to be constant “white noise “ on your broadcasts 👍
In 14:12, Amulek says “Behold, perhaps they will burn us also”. To this Alma responds, “Be it according to this will of the Lord. But, behold, our work is not finished; therefore they burn us not.” I have always found this verse interesting because to me Amulek saying this shows that he truly understood that the Lord was allowing this suffering in order for those people to be received up to the Lord. Amulek hopes for this too, when he says Perhaps they will burn us also, he had complete faith that if he and Alma were killed innocently at this time they would be received by the Lord. Alma agreed and understands Amulek’s desire when he says, Be it according to the will of the Lord. However, Alma knows that they will not be burned at this time because their work is not finished. I greatly admire these two men because it would have been easier to just die and be received up to God, but it would be more difficult to continue in the great work of spreading the gospel and preaching repentance to the wicked.
Do you ever stop and think that among those women. & children cast into the flames - that some might have been members of Amuleck's own immediate family- perhaps his own wife and children - and Amulek had to watch their suffering? It says in Alma 15:16 that Amulek was "rejected by... friends and also by his father and his kindred". That last word could be siblings and other extended family members - not necessarily his own wife & children. Like you said about one reason why in Alma 15:18 (after they were in the land of Sidom) that Alma took Amulek to his own home in Zarahemla "and did administer unto him in his tribulations". Love how Alma ministers to his dear friend who was suffering.
I think it's so pivotal that God sent ALMA to Ammonihah. Maybe he was the best one for the job, and the BEST one to help Zeezrom because he had been in the same place of wickedness himself and understood God's atonement in a way that he could empathize with him. I don't think it was ever in his heart to say, "Why would we help you after all you have done to us?" But instead, "I can help you brother. Because this burning guilt and pain you are feeling? I have felt that! I have done that. I promise sweet joy is on the way if only you will believe in Jesus."
During my season of "holy envy" I remember this from "The Easter Proclamation(Exsultet)" - "O happy fault, O necessary sin of Adam (and Eve) which gained for us so great a Redeemer." Then sometimes a shorter rhyme was heard "O happy fall, that saved all."
The wives and children who were believers were cast into the fire, along with their holy scriptures. Do you think Amulek's family was among those cast into the fire? He was in anguish after this event, and distraught to the point where Alma took him back to Zarahemla to administer to him and strengthen him in the Lord (Alma 15:18)
i just studied this, i am a little behind and emily mentioned how much she hates chapter 14, and i do too, but as horrific as it is and i can't imagine what witnessing that would be like....i have used this chapter many times to find what little comfort that can be found in this life. verse 11..."the spirit constraineth me.....Lord receivieth them up unto himself....the innocent shall stand as a witness against them at the last day...strangely so i find a tiny fleck of piece there. it gives ME an answer as to why bad things happen to good people...doesn't mean i like it
Could we maybe get a citation for that quote from Mr. Webster saying that it was in his afflictions that he came to know God, please and thank you? Defo-pants wanna put that in my journal.
I wondered the same thing, but he also lost family who rejected him, 15:16, and then to top it off they would have all been killed by the Lamanites. Tough, tough, things.

I have searched and searched to find the quote that was mentioned by Pres. Kimball “in the end, you’ll realize there was no sacrifice at all” but can’t find it anywhere. Does anyone have a reference for that?
There was a painting of a woman and a child before the flames. And her dialog of watching her family be persecuted and now realizing she was to be a martyr. I can't find it. Can anyone post the link to it?

I love that you can hear your children crying in the background, makes it an authentic church meeting!
I was listening to this in my head phones and kept taking them out thinking it was my own kids. The funny thing is the youngest is 11
Hahaha!!! Yes👍
Just brings me back to Sacrament meeting! Boy I miss Church Church! Home Church is less vibrant!😇

I never thought about this, how Alma was the perfect missionary for Zeezrom because he had been one of Noah's wicked priests and had repented
I love the summer of hero’s. I love your love for scriptures and the meaning and lessons so beautifully taught

If we did not need mortality God would not have made us come. EBF❤️

I think they were, and that might be one of the reasons his father and kindred turned against him, or against God.
Good catch! I had never thought about that before.
I was wondering this, too!
Wow. Just imagine that. My heart aches so hard for Amulek as I consider that this could very well have been the case. 💔
So good. Thank you so much!
The first season of the Chosen is on Blu-ray. There are actually three more in season two!! They are fantastic. So was this lesson. Thank you!

I am taking a barre class starting this week, even though I am so out of shape thanks to corona.
Now that they have the study book for the book of Mormon I would like to see the new testament version as well.
Check out the videos from last year. 😊 Super interesting! I learned so very much.
Best lesson yet.

I'm afraid of heights and I went ziplining. :-)
I have wondered if Amulek's wife and children were among those burned. He may have sacrificed more than just wealth and prestige.
I wondered the same thing, but he also lost family who rejected him, 15:16, and then to top it off they would have all been killed by the Lamanites. Tough, tough, things.
We don't know. But he does say he is a man of no small reputation. He probably had many friends who were burned
Zeezrom has always been a favorite of mine!
