    30 minutes into this video, I had to replay it from the beginning so I could soften my heart to hear and be taught the beautiful messages you are teaching. I was just called to be the RS President and your words will be so helpful with my visits and with my children. I am grateful for the time and devotion you make creating this content. You are truly an instrument in the Lords hands. Thank you!

    Thank you Brother Halverson. I am the mother of seven sons. I remember sitting in sacrament meeting one Sunday when my sons were little boys and as I looked down the row at each of them I imagined them as grown, looking handsome in their Sunday suits and each one wearing a missionary name badge. But as the years went by all but one of my sons gradually moved away from the Church and then, years later, the one son who did go on a mission also left the Church. I so appreciate your unique perspective on how to cope, how to navigate, and how to approach the dilemma of watching loved ones turn away. I always tell people all you can do is love them, pray, pray, pray, and love them some more. Pressure, shame, guilt, and rejection simply will not work!

    Dear Brother Halverson thank you for keeping "us" in mind when you teach hard things. I get very anxious I'm not doing everything I need to do to return home. (1:12:00 beyond 1:15:00) Thank you for pausing for a moment and helping us remember that God is merciful and loving and kind. My anxiousness was replaced with such warmth as the Spirit testified this truth to my heart. I absolutely love your lessons!

    Oh man, I had to repent so much back in January for using unrighteous authority over someone I loved, and I'm a woman. I had never known how to pray for my loved one, because I knew I couldn't ask the Lord to change them. It wasn't until I was listening to every single Conference talk that I could find where the speaker said you can always pray for someone's heart to be softened. By then, I realized that not just his heart needed to be softened, but mine did, too. The Lord was so kind when I began to do that, and I could see how much I had hardened my own heart, His forgiveness was sweet, and things began to get better for both me and my loved one. Life is so much more peaceful now. I wish I had heard this lesson back in December! Thank you so much.

    Brother Halvorsen, I had a long drive today, so I listened to both this and the extended version. Thank you for your efforts in preparing, recording and posting these videos!
    I LOVED how you compared "probation" and "preparation", and understand why you think "preparation" is perhaps a better word to describe our mortal efforts. However, I thought of another aspect that might be interesting to you.
    You said that the root word of "probation" is "prove". (Online dictionaries agree, by the way.) It means to test, try, or support with evidence (as a hypothesis or theory). There is also another definition as well.
    Last year my wife and I got started watching a cooking show called "The Great British Bake Off." We learned that if you're a British baker, "prove" means to allow leavening agents (such as yeast, baking soda, sourdough, etc.) to do their job to your dough or batter. (In America we say "rise.") While proving, the dough is infused with bubbles from the chemical or biological reactions, so that it is light and fluffy after baking. In other words, the leaven "prepares" the dough that is to be cooked.
    Without proving or rising, the resultant baked goods are flat, heavy, harder to chew and much less tasty. (Unleavened bread on Passover was NOT much of a treat!) The obvious-to-me corollary is that if we, during our probationary period, will not allow ourselves to be properly "proven", we will probably see similarly unattractive results.
    So, by that standard, the word "probation" becomes a semi-synonym of "preparation", and Alma's use of the word takes on some added depth.

    Brother Jared…I love the fact that in chapter 8..the same Angel that was sent to stop Alma from persecuting the church, and sending him to view his own eternal destruction…is then allowed to declare to him a great reason to rejoice😇👍. How wonderful a mission and reason to rejoice with Alma. The eternal joy from the very heart of a Loving Eternal Father…who wants to bring us all back to Him. We are so blessed❤. Keep up the good work brother…we need your gifted messages😊👍. David

    Mormonism believes that God is our biological father, and we inherited many wonderful gifts from him, but according to the bible and scripture, this is not true. The bible says those who believe in God are His children, His adopted children, because the Father is not biologically our father. So how can we become holy, if we are not related to God, easy, He gives us faith, it is a free gift, there is nothing we do to earn it, once we have His faith then by His will all things are worked through us by Him. Col 1:17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist . Ephesians 1:5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will. It is in His will nothing more that we become holy and join Him in the kingdom of God.

      @nate2797 8 днів тому +7

      Respectfully, this is not accurate. We believe that God is the father of our spirits. He is not our biological father. He created all things, including our spirits, the earth, etc. In this context, He is our father. We believe that as the Bible taught, that we are "joint heirs with Christ" who inherited all that the father has. Accordingly, we can inherit the same as joint heirs if we have faith. The differences in our beliefs are likely small in comparison to the similarities.
