Much respect to you and all the bonsai ppl that grow tropical trees in cold climates. It really takes an extra mile. I live in FL and we get temps in the 40s for a few hours. I mainly just cross my fingers and hope for the best, took them in once in the last 4 years, oh and of course when the hurricanes come.
@@DavidSmith-yk6li Thanks! If I didn't have any tropicals to work on I'd be so bored all winter. And opening up that grow tent when it's cold and dark outside is like a tiny slice of good weather. I bet you can grow some great tropicals in Florida!
i recently made a clump style from many ficus cuttings like you did and they've already grown almost twice in height since i did that, cant wait for them to fuse together
Really cool...a Bonsai Cave...It looks like your collection has grown...It really looks great and the trees all look so healthy...What sort of humidity level are you able to achieve/maintain? Really looks well thought out and I'm sure helps pass those long cold Winter months...Neh? Well done and thanks for sharing your progress...Sequim, WA...
Thank you! And you just reminded me to put my humidity/temperature Gage in there. I forgot! And you're absolutely right about it passing the long dark winters. Id go crazy from boredom otherwise!
@BonsaiBoise Next year, I hope to have more regionally appropriate trees, ones I can leave outdoors all year. Massachusetts has loads of beautiful native trees!
been meaning to ask for the longest time but just remembered, i love the pots you use for "Scheffy" and a couple others, the ones with all the hexagons on them. Was wondering where you got them?
@@tacocheif429 thanks! I think they are locally made. I could be wrong. But I get them from a place called Zamzows. I'm not sure where you're located but you might be able to get them from Zamzows website?
if i was a police, and comming into your house, if it was not for your growing tent looking so expensive and orderly looking,, i would be willing to bet a 100 dollars that it was not bonsai trees inside =)
You should have seen it before I got this blackout growtent, lol. I just had a plastic mini greenhouse, so all the lighting just made my apartment glow a pinkish purple. And I was on the 3rd floor next to a fairly busy street so every night my one apartment just stuck out like a sore thumb. I'm surprised I never got raided, haha.
How well does it work? I tried a cup of water and it worked surprisingly well! But I don't know how well it would work if not in a closed up grow tent.
@BonsaiBoise the yellow sticky kills off the adults...but they lay eggs in the soil... I'm trying a light spray of neem oil on the surface of the soil to stem the tide of hatchlings..
I like your indoor setup when you opened it up it looked like two windows into a bonsai nursery really cool thanks.
Thanks! I have to say, it's pretty nice during those long winter months to just open up a little tropical oasis. Even if it's fake.

@@tacocheif429 it's kind of fun doing a clump because no 2 can ever be the same!

so great to see your setup! I think I've lost my passion for tropicals. I just don't remember to care for them in cold months.
Thanks! And yeah, I get it. It can be a lot.

Like your new setup but is it prudent to have so much humidity build up inside the house even though it is within the grow tent?
Not sure why not. Idaho is pretty dry most of the time so this doesn't seem to impact anything
