I don't care what naysayers say, the fact that you can throw on barefoot shoes and go hard like this with minimal damage says a ton. I've never been as comfortable in conventional shoes as I've been in any of mine, right out of the box. Love that you guys are making memories with Mama like this every year, so special, thank you for sharing it. Happy Holidays boys, thank you for a very informative year. The content is top notch and I hope the affiliates come out to play in 2025 and you need to buy larger homes to display your wall of boxes, haha.
Wasn't even a full blown blister either haha. They are quite the departure from the Altras we've been running in all summer long, but there's a lot of good things about them!
@sonsofsever Wow, not even a real blister. Nice. Is the upper as supple/flexible as other runnings shoes too? The retro shape appears stiff-ish to me, but it definitely could just be the appearance.
@@nickamarit the upper material is a little stiffer than today's modern recycled PET and such yes, but it hasn't bothered me at all. They were going for full-on classic runner with the nylon and suede
@@justinperkins7744 we'll get a full one out too after we've put more miles on them. I've got about 20 miles on mine, and so far I think they're great for short quick runs. Pretty versatile too, I took them with me on an overnight work trip and loved being able to wear them out casually, but then take them on a run too
So I know running is quite personal in terms of what to wear for shoes, based on so many things obviously, (sidenote, this video just really make me want to run ahaha, so thanks? Really cool video to have for a bit of a review! You all did great!) but as someone who has walked in barefoot shoes for a little over a decade, but has never done any running, is there a range of thickness you might recommend as a starting point? I took a look at the stack height for the Runners and I gotta say, it has me worried for my ankles, but I know I need more padding than any of my current barefoot shoes! For reference, during general exercise, I wear my xero 360s, but those would absolutely not be enough padding for running at all. Thickest walking shoe I own is actually probably the Splay 101s.
@@MsSilentH we just reviewed the Altra Escalante 4, I'd start there! It has 24mm of stack height, lots of cushion, it's a great running shoe if you're looking for a lot of comfort. I would think that for someone like you who's been wearing barefoot shoes for so long anything more under your foot would be complete overkill. When we first got it it felt like too much cushioning, but we've really appreciated it as time has gone on and especially as we've used it on longer runs. My only caution with getting the Splay is that even though it has 18mm of stack height, it isn't really cushioned, the midsole is pretty hard, and I think if you're gonna start running the Escalante will give you a better experience.
@@sonsofsever Many thanks! Yea that was my big worry, too much height, but I feel like I'd definitely still appreciate cushioning, so good to know about the Splays as well, not something I would have figured with the 18mm!
Quick question: do these have a toe spring? Cuz it kinda looks like they do. Or is it just an aesthetic design without actually feeling like a toe spring?
@@nickamarit I don’t feel it if it’s there. Some barefoot shoes tend to have some toespring just because of how they are sewn and then over time they break in to not have it, or they’re flexible enough that your weight flattens them and you don’t notice it. When it comes to these, we don’t notice any toe lift at all
I wouldn't say the bar was set low. Very impressive your mom finished the run!
Love the fact that they made a shoe that looks like a new balance and then gave it a name that looks like a backwards N.
Just discovered your channel from your Lems review video. God bless you guys

We appreciate your comments Gman!
1 blister in a totally brand spanking new pair of shoes running a half marathon = that's pretty amazing.

Best channel on UA-cam! Thanks for sharing.
Been waiting for this review so I could decide if I wanted these

@sonsofsever Ahhhh, okay. It could just be an aesthetic form they put in without affecting the function of the shoe. Thanks for the clarification!
