      Wow... I just tripped across your channel , as in truth UA-cam is full of misinformation and BS. I'm watching you from my hospital bed as sadly I have cancer , but being the optimistic person I am , I hope .
      As a young buck roaming the fields looking at the cattle , I used to pretend that I was in a war and all the thistles were the enemy , and I'd lobb the heads of the thistle . Strangely enough , now as an older buck , I don't see many thistles , the horrors of climate change . But now after watching your nicely presented narrative it's great . I shall indeed now look for thistles and shall use your process . Thank you for making these videos . Joe .. and that is Bob my buddy cat in me photo . 😊

    I grew up shoveling milk thistle out of the ground. We called it Bull Thistle and it is an invasive species that will take over a pasture. We were cattle ranchers. Wish I knew its health benefits back then. Thanks for the information.

      Here in Wales Bull Thistle is a different type of thistle. Latin name Cirsium vulgare Bull. But I’m very aware that common names change from country to country. Bull Thistle is medicinal but different to Milk Thistle. We have loads of different thistles here and I’m sure you do where you live. The best way to ID Milk Thistle is the thick bright white veins on the leaves. Have fun exploring the thistles where you live ❤️🌱❤️

      You could get fined in Oklahoma for a certain kind if you didn't dig it up. It had thorns on the bottom of the leaf.
      If you bailed it up and fed it to your cattle, it could kill them. So I grew up thinking there were two different kinds. Now, i'm looking into that before I harvest. Are there two different kinds? Or is it just geographical Mutation

    As you said, its crucial to cut the seed head from the plant at the right timing - when the seeds pull out easily and before they start dropping all over the place :) Here is my method of processing which seems faster than yours. You still have to be careful, but I tried other ways and this is the method by wich I get stung the least. After cutting the heads, I let them dry completely on a tray for about a week, then put them into a big container in which I can walk in with clean shoes to squish and break them up, which already removes some seeds. Then I take a thick (preferablly lether coated) glove and pliers to push or pull the rest out. I dont mind if I dont get all of them out, because I use the remaining material to broadcast sow for the next crop. May God bless you and your work on the homestead.

    • @salenawalker
      @salenawalker  Рік тому +6

      Thank you for sharing your method. I’ve tried the shoe squishing method and it didn’t work. I think it may have been because I live in a humid environment and they weren’t crispy dry. But I love the idea of the thick gloves and pliers. There would definitely be less ow’s with that!!

      Dosage is a very individual question. As it depends on the symptoms and severity of symptoms, how sensitive the person is and what is going on in that person. It is very different to prescribe pharmaceuticals as herbs work in an individual level. I prescribe tinctures between 5 drops to one teaspoon three times a day. So you’ll need to find a good personal dose for you.

      Selena…I had many stomach problems, including ulcers. Looking for answers and taking a few prescribed meds to help!! HELP!!! Hah!!!
      The meds did NOTHING to heal me just allow me to exist in pain and insomnia!
      In Feb ‘23, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and my GP booked me into a bone biopsy.
      I was so ‘down’, being almost bed ridden, in pain and could barely move. It took a lot just to go to the loo at least 20 times per day. So I searched for a Will Kit on line…when I discovered
      @motivationaldoc Dr. Mandell, a retired physician 👨‍⚕️ who now helps people around the world for free (giving hearing aids and health checks to children all around the world etc) anyhoooo, he talks about herbs and spices as medicine and I formulated a daily elixir on his findings. I wanted to see if this could help me. I must say I’m a walking MIRACLE.
      Within one week of drinking my DAILY ELIXIR (turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, olive or coconut oil, black pepper, cayenne, apple cider vinegar wm, raw honey and chia seeds.
      Six months later, still on a waiting list, my Haematologist needed to see me urgently!!!
      I was so afraid 😱
      He smiled and showed me my blood test results and couldn’t believe it.
      I was perfectly healthy. All my abnormal cells were GONE!!
      Also a follow up on my gallstones ultrasound showed they had been reabsorbed!?!
      GP has tapered me down off my useless meds and I have no digestion problems anymore. No more insomnia, no more inflammation anywhere.
      I excitedly jump out of bed now and have loads of energy. Love cooking and EATING again.
      ☝️🤣👌

    • @salenawalker
      @salenawalker  Рік тому +4

      I stay away from giving specific dosage advice for individuals as we are all different. As a naturopath I access the whole picture looking at current symptoms from head to toe including physical, emotional and spiritual symptoms. I also explore the clients external world to be able to understand their internal world at cellular level. I would also need to know what your current diet, hydration you consume and details of any medications you take as there could be contraindications. This process takes an hour and half in my consultation and results in me being able to give the client a personal prescription that works with the body not against the body. Focusing on hydration, food, purposeful supplementation / herbal medicine and naturopathic techniques.
      It would not be ethical for me to make suggestions without knowing the full picture as this would be prescribing in the same manner as allopathic medicine. Which is very unlikely to be beneficial.
      I hope you understand and it makes sense to you. This video may explain it in a different way:

      But for now I would say… Offering specific advice on dosage is tricky since I tailor herbal prescriptions to individual cases, unlike allopathic medicine. Ethically, I can't suggest without the full picture to avoid potential harm or contraindications. It's wise to research herb contraindications and dosage based on your purpose. My understanding is Scotch Thistle is different. It’s an invasive species with the Latin name Onopordum acanthium. But I know many countries have different names for Milk Thistle such as Blessed Milk Thistle, Mary Thistle and yes Scotch Thistle. Where as this thistle that is known commonly in the UK as Milk Thistle it’s Latin name is Silybum marianum. I know when I meet up with herbalists from different countries we have to refer to the Latin names as common names can be so different. It’s fascinating and thank you sharing ❤️🌱❤️

      If you want to make a tea from seeds you need to make a decoction. In a very quick description. Put the seeds in a pan with water, and cover with a lid. Bring to the boil and simmer for twenty minutes. Dosage will depend on individual constitution and you would need to check for personal contraindications.

      I am assuming you are talking about a tincture? I let my tinctures brew for a month and then strain it. I dilute it in water to take it. Offering specific advice on dosage is tricky since I tailor herbal prescriptions to individual cases, unlike allopathic medicine. Ethically, I can't suggest without the full picture to avoid potential harm or contraindications. It's wise to research herb contraindications and dosage based on your purpose.
