      Is the grip the same length as the EZ 380 with the 13 round magazine or 15 round magazine or neither?

      Try seating a magazine before releasing the slide lock. I noticed the slide lock button moved a bit when you were doing the magazine drop test. Maybe the slide lock button will be lighter with a magazine in it. Also, does it have second strike capability? The EZ's don't, I was just wondering if these have added that feature. Certainly not a deal breaker, just a nice feature. Thank you.

    The fact that the Shield Equalizer uses the same magazines as the Shield Plus is really quite brilliant. It means his CCW is the Shield plus and hers is the Equalizer so it will be easier overall to rack. A brilliant move by S&W as they don't have to engineer new mags for this gun...and a benefit for those who already have Shield plus magazines.

  • @charlesj.6563
    @charlesj.6563 Рік тому +26

    The magazines are indeed the Shield Plus magazines. This now means that there is a 15 round magazine for the Shield Plus. The optic cut is interesting too. It appears that the mounting lugs are milled to work with Holosun 507k/407k optics with no need for a Shield RMSc to Holosun adapter plate.

    • @elblancobasura
      @elblancobasura Рік тому +2

      Wise move with respect to using Shield Plus mags. I've always appreciated the Ruger P Series largely using the same magazine throughout the entire 9mm. series. It's a big factor in my I continued buying of those guns both in production and out. Smith recognized (I believe) that if you've got one of their new Shield Plus guns, the compatibility makes it that much more easy to decide to purchase one of these. I can tell you Ruger wouldn't be doing this. New gun release, new proprietary magazine. "Booooo."

    • @calebnation6155
      @calebnation6155 Рік тому +4

      That means it’s got the same optics mount as the shield plus, mine perfectly direct mounted a 407k, while allowing a lower 1/3 co-witness with the stock sights

    • @charlesj.6563
      @charlesj.6563 Рік тому

      @@calebnation6155 Maybe S&W has made a change in the Shield Plus optic cut but my optic ready Shield Plus was milled to the standard RMSc footprint with both front and rear mounting lugs. That required me to buy an adapter plate to allow a 507k to sit flat. From the photos I have seen, the optic cut on the Equalizer has only one set of mounting lugs and the S&W description refers to it as being a new style of optic cut which will allow mounting of a wide variety of optics. Looks to me like it was designed with the 507k/407k/EPS Carry in mind which will also work with the RMSc and other optics. Perhaps Hammer Striker can confirm that.

    • @calebnation6155
      @calebnation6155 Рік тому +1

      @@charlesj.6563 I picked up a 30sc shield plus about 3 weeks ago and it only had 2 very short front lugs which went perfectly with a direct mount for my 407k.

    • @charlesj.6563
      @charlesj.6563 Рік тому +1

      @@calebnation6155 Very nice! I wish that all manufacturers would use that optic cut. That sounds exactly like the picture of the new style optic cut on the Equalizer. Unfortunately, my 9mm optic ready 3.1” Shield Plus and my 4” PC Shield Plus with optic both have the original 4-lug RMSc cut which requires the adapter plate to mount a Holosun. With luck, maybe S&W will begin using the new optic cut on the 9mm Shield Plus pistols going forward.

      @oldgringo66 Рік тому +1

      I think the Uplula is included means they don’t want people complaining about the double stack mags being harder to load than the original EZ mags.

    • @charlesj.6563
      @charlesj.6563 Рік тому +2

      The Shield Plus magazines this pistol is equipped with are very hard to load to capacity w/o using the Uplula especially when the magazines are new. If you do load them to full capacity, the magazines are difficult to fully insert into the pistol with the slide closed. The extended magazines seem to suffer from both of these problems more than the 10 round magazine. In my experience, it is best to load the extended magazines to one round less than full capacity. Whether this issue will be present in the Equalizer is unknown.

      Just shot the first 50 rounds today and noticed the difficulty loading the last round or two in the in the largest mag. Haven't tried the 2 smaller mags yet. Got this for my wife because she had troubles racking the slide on most other guns. She is having trouble with the safety? Or something not allowing the gun to be fired on some trigger pulls. Tried it myself and had the same issue. Don't believe it's from no squeezing the backstrap safety as I had a firm grip. Jiggled the slide and it seemed to momentarily correct the problem. Curious as to what is wrong us or the gun.

    I was very un happy about this gun, it was great at range except for, my hand has to be up into the beaver tail for the grip safety and the field strip really turned me off, but it took about 50 rounds to get use to the safety and as far as field strip, after first hour to try to get slide back on, I realized the Two flat ends on recoil spring, once lined up the slide slides right on. It's a great gun and reliable, fired over 500 rounds the first time and didn't have one problem once I got use to the grip safety

She can handle other bigger handguns and recoil at the range but for carry and possible use in a stressful situation the 380ez is a good fit. Of course, most of that stiffness/tightness corrects itself once you've put a handful of mags through it. I recommend Sig V-Crowns for sure, and Underwood 147gr +P JHPs. They're hard-hitting and add nice weight overall to manage recoil even more, and the case is always preferable to brass, in my humble opinion.

    In another video, the slide when taking it down sticks because of the grip safety. THat little lever in the back on the left side goes up when the safety is depressed. So you must avoid pushing that grip safety in order to take the slide off. Was definitely something I'd have run into .

    I can tell your EDC isn't an EZ. So when you were taking the slide off you were having issues taking it off. That little silver piece next to the ejector in the rear is the firing pin safety release. When you depress the grip safety that safety travels upward and depresses a spring on the slide releasing the safety. As for removing the slide; what I do on my 380 EZ is I lock back the slide, rotate the take down lever in the front, then I release the slide from being locked forward while holding onto it, you can have the grip safety depressed it doesn't matter then I push the rear of the slide with the thumb of the hand on the grip and the slide moves forward. I can do this blindfolded if I had to. Maybe this is different on the Equalizer, but I'm not sure what is different other than a double stack in it.
    I'd like to see extended magazines offered for the single stack from Smith & Wesson. The big differences between them are the loss of the tactile round in the chamber indicator lost for the optics area, and the double stack grip modification.

      @@GBGuns I had to buy Pearce mag grip extensions for my EZ mags so that I could get my pinky finger fully on it. Getting all fingers on the grip really helps me even with less recoil of 380. I see that you could not get all your fingers fully onto the the 10-round mag of the Equalizer/Shield Plus magazine either. I see the Pearce also mags a pinky extension for this magazine. It may be a good option for those with larger hands who do not have a problem printing more with extra length.
