The fact the Brace Yourself Games got the Zelda IP after making only ONE game really does show a lot of potential. Who knows, maybe they'll become part of Nintendo one day.
What makes this hilarious to me is that Cadence might have a better chance of getting into Super Smash Bros. than any other indie just because of this game.
I'd personally love a Cadence of Nintendo series. Especially if they do a Donkey Kong one. Stickerbrush Symphony? Mining Melancholy? I'd fucking lose it hearing it.

You get to hear Danny B, FamilyJules, and Adriana living the dream(seriously, look up Jules’ video about Cadence, it’s heartwarming), you get Nintendo taking chances and you get to see an indie developer hit it big. You get playable Zelda. You get someone that Vaati fans will probably dig. And also puns.

I love how randomized the world is. I started a second save file and was seeing entirely new areas and caves, as well as all the major locations being in totally different places.
@@psycake Why? In this case it makes the game have some replay value, it's not just randomized for the sake of being randomized. It makes the game better.

I'll certainly be on the lookout for games by these guys in the future. They certainly know how to make the pick up and play type games I love to play on Switch.
The fixed-beat mode is fantastic. It means if you're hearing impaired you can still enjoy a fun game. I like the inclusiveness of the game. It also means you can enjoy the game idly in handheld mode if you don't have headphones or are somewhere you just can't hear very well (like the train). Couldn't agree more with the closing statement. Lovely game with an amazing soundtrack, and it's really a huge step up from NecroDancer in terms of visuals. Without the punishing Rogue-lite mechanics and far less random elements it doesn't have nearly as much longevity as Crypt had. Still very enjoyable for what it is.
Im actually surprised I managed to call the names of 3 of the bosses revealed before the release of the game. Bass Guitarmos Knights, Gleeokenspiel and Ghomaracas.
@@MarshallLeeA I meant before the treehouse segment. People were talking about the trailer that revealed him by that point and I threw my guess out there, along with the other two.
I would not mind another one, bigger map more playable characters. The blend of core gameplay progression and some rougelite elements is very intriguing to me
LucianoThePig I got that same feeling, and there are a few games that could probably make for great crossovers as well (plus, I kinda just like the idea that Crypt sequels are going to mostly consist of Cadence getting dropped into another world). First one I could think of was Shovel Knight, I mean I’m kind of surprised we haven’t already gotten a crossover there considering how perfect the two series would blend. Shovels, items, and tunes to groove to, it’s just a no brainer in my eyes. Indies like Shantae or UnderTale could be great for their soundtracks, but I wonder how well the combat system of both would work. Something like Enter The Gungeon could make for some fun gameplay, but I’ve little experience with the game so I’m not too certain if it’d be the best possible crossover.
Im already dying for a sequel! I wish they had a map for each of the different areas with more extensive dungeons and puzzles. At 5 hours its just so much goodness in so little time. I also wish there was a master mode to ramp up the difficulty
I really like the game, and it was really fun, but idk about the 25$ price tag. I got about 8 hours out of my first run, hopefully the daily challenges and randomization will be enough of a reason to keep coming back.
I’m actually glad this game is more Zelda than roguelike. While I love Enter the Gungeon, I got a little too hooked on completing it and burned a lot more time than I should have in that pursuit. It’ll be nice to have a more compact experience.
Really good review! This isn't so much a nitpick as it is my opinion and experience with this game and Crypt, but I've been playing the Single Player Mode with Permadeath activated and I seriously cannot stop playing it. That mode combines the best parts of Crypt and a Zelda Randomizer experience into one rogue-like that I just can't put down! I die a lot if I don't get a bottle or the wide sword or spear quickly, but it's incredibly addicting. I almost had to convince myself that there was replayability there when I first started, but I'm completely hooked now!
Will add my voice (text?) to the many glowing reviews this game gets. After hearing how hard Crypt was, I was a little skeptical but I did end up grabbing this game, and am absolutely enjoying myself. The music is lovely, the gameplay is simple at its core and though I would not call the game 'forgiving' I would say it very much gets you right back into the gameplay and is not overly punishing. The more gear you collect the faster you'll make back what progress you do lose on a death.
That ending feels like its teasing cadence could end up in another game like Cadence of Mushroom Kingdom. It could also be teasing majora mask dlc cause can already play as a deku. When you play the deku also in single player everyone refers to Yves as link.
I agree with pretty much everything you said. The one complaint I do have is I wish there was a Roguelike mode, where you’d just dive into dungeons over and over.
I enjoyed the game, if you're new, try the fixed beat mode, You don't have to move to the beat, You can just run around, but if you want a challenge, Try Permadeath, If you die, it's game over, and if you quit, the save file deletes itself, the game is great and there's also a secret character and he lives with Tingle, and the game is great, the remixes are outstanding, some of the bosses are hard, some are easy, and the dungeons are great even though it's randomly generated, it's challenging and fun, You should buy it, it's worth it. Tip: If you want to play as Cadence from the beginning and to the end, Choose New Game 2P and choose either Link or Zelda, then go to the nearest Sheikah Stone and change to Cadence
Never played a game like this and all the positive feedback made me buy it on day 1 and not regretting it one bit. This game is hands down terrific and one of my favorites now.
I love Crypt it is such a brilliant game. I think I prefer cadence for its more accessible approach but I can definetely see the small complaint about the game feeling like it has less replay value. I'm surprised there's not an arcade mode similar to the first game where you chain dungeons one after the other. I mean it shouldn't be too hard for them to make they already have all the assets and the technology from the first game. Maybe it'll come later as an update who knows. Now the question is whether they'll do Cadence of other franchises. I wouldn't mind that, especially if it's final fantasy.
Wow.... When regular Joe UA-camrs like myself and others review this game before GameXplain, it shows two things: 1) Music and gameplay together to sell the concept further, because no monetization restrictions, and... 2) Very few or no review codes, 'cause it's an indie game. Still, this is a decent review, and I do hope major reviewers will slow down and take their time more often from now on.
Honestly, couldn’t recommend this game more. Maybe I’m biased since I really enjoyed the original Crypt of the NecroDancer and I’m a huge Zelda fan, but this game captures the essence of both franchises in my eyes (although I don’t know if Crypt can be considered a franchise at this point). While items may have been under utilized and it’s not as replay-able as Crypt, the combat feels almost puzzle like enough that I was never craving more puzzles, and the over world and items can be mixed around on a second playthrough, so not every location will be the same. There’s also a myriad of Legendary weapons you can find, a hidden area that can be accessed by leaving the map (if you’re clever enough with tools and certain world seeds), and a secret fourth character if you collect 20 Deku Seeds (it’s no one major, and it’s thankfully not Tingle). All in all I’d recommend picking it up, especially if you have a friend who’s also into rhythm games. A few things though if you’re still hesitant though. 1. The randomly generated overworld still keeps the same puzzles in each section, so each little puzzle will still work exactly as intended. 2. The difficulty is much lower from Crypt. The closest it gets is maybe the first dungeon (whichever you choose), but by then things will get way easier (plus, it’s alright if you die, all the good items tend to stay with you). 3. If the price really worries you than I’d recommend waiting for a sale or price drop, it’s something that’s worth playing at least for the soundtrack.
It is my understanding that co-op with split joycons can only be played by analogue sticks. Is that correct? Only if remapping the directional input to face buttons is possible, I won’t hesitate buying this gem!!
died more times in the first hour than in my full bloodborne run... loved this game though. once you get the feel of it and the 2 range sword it becomes natural.
It's a good choice for some dlc as it would feel bonus. Have a explorable dark world, more zelda playable. Heck after beating it let us play as octavo with his unique skill set, since he was fighting against Gannon too.
Honestly I would pass on this til it gets a discount, the original Necrodancer is on sale right now on the eShop and I would pick that up instead, especially since the switch version comes with the dlc
I wasn't really sure on this, but people around me everywhere are hyping this game into the skies, and now you, too! But I'm on a budget now, and 25 Euro's is a little steep for something I'm so uncertain of. And there's other games coming fairly soon that request my attention as well, primarily Mario Maker.
I want to play this, but I'm going to wait until they either put it on sale, or have an update that adds a "crypt mode" where it's more like the original for the price, hearing that it's a small game isn't really worth it to me.
I am up to the final dungeon, and have everything except for a single heart piece. Nothing is shown on the map, I have checked every dungeon, re-checked the shops, done the mini games again, and still cannot find it.
Same for me. I think it’s simply that some seeds generate incomplete maps. It sucks and there’s nothing we can do except start the game again and hope for better luck
@@Operation_Bagel I managed to get them all by checking every tile, going by area, and there were a couple places I missed. A puzzle I passed over a few times because I could not figure out the answer without some trial, and some stares that were on the map, but I had not gone down into.
DuskyPredator yeah I did the same thing you did and found one cave I missed but it just had a red chest so yeah I’m restarting the game and hoping for better luck
Not only can you play without sound, but you can also play without voice acting or music.... Or, if you want to play the game completely silent, just mute the Switch.
I'll let you in on something. I... don't care for rhythm video games. From Dance Dance Revolution to Guitar Hero to Crypt of the Necrodancer, rhythm or music-based video games have never appealed to me. Not even DDR: Mario Mix tickles my fancy, though I love its soundtrack. For Cadence of Hyrule, I appreciate the concept of Nintendo trusting an indie company with one of its huge IPs. The visuals look cute and bouncy. The soundtrack is quite nice; to have up-and-coming musical talent like Adriana Figueroa (sorry for the typo) involved in an official Nintendo product is quite impressive. Due to my not being a Zelda fan or that into rhythm games, I will likely pass on Cadence of Hyrule. Good review, Jon, though I'm surprised that Ash didn't review this, given he's the resident music man of GameXplain...🤔
The rhythm aspect, precedurally-generated level design, playing as Zelda and a lot less item usage and puzzles than usual. Other than that, it retains a lot of what makes Zelda great, especially the remixes! Also, let me repeat: playing the whole game as Zelda. No other main game has done that, except for ....... Oops, we can't talk about that one.
You've never heard of the Phillips CDi Zelda games? Well... the less said, the better, but they're generally considered some of the worst games ever made, and Nintendo refuses to acknowledge that they even existed because they butchered the Zelda license so much. If you're looking for another good Zelda spinoff, try the Hyrule Warriors games; preferably not the 3DS version if you don't have the "New" version.
From the CDi games? Yeah, that's putting it mildly, but from Hyrule Warriors? Yeah, insane action to that degree can certainly be strenuous to those not used to it.
The fact the Brace Yourself Games got the Zelda IP after making only ONE game really does show a lot of potential. Who knows, maybe they'll become part of Nintendo one day.

This game really needs dlc because I would buy it instantly
It's a good choice for some dlc as it would feel bonus. Have a explorable dark world, more zelda playable. Heck after beating it let us play as octavo with his unique skill set, since he was fighting against Gannon too.
@@robm6726 I NEED to know what octavos beef with ganon was and why he felt the need to put the heroes of the land to sleep and go it alone
Nice review. I'm gonna pick this up. Just a heads up, there's a typo in the description. Gotta spell collaboration correctly.
Overworld is prosedually generated as well, make 2 save files and look
I guarantee if another one of these games is made, it will certainly be bought
I just bought Crypt of the necrodancer
Really hope they’ll be dlc but.... kinda doubtful
Yes Thankyou!!!
My favorite part is the secret !
The game looks amazing.
Honestly I would pass on this til it gets a discount, the original Necrodancer is on sale right now on the eShop and I would pick that up instead, especially since the switch version comes with the dlc
It's definitely an easier game than Crypt of the Necrodancer, but that doesn't make it any less of a great game.
I hope this does good enough so Nintendo lets other indie companies use their properties.
I want to play this, but I'm going to wait until they either put it on sale, or have an update that adds a "crypt mode" where it's more like the original for the price, hearing that it's a small game isn't really worth it to me.
Crypt mode is basically the castle guantlet
Crypt of the necro dancer is on sale, should I buy it or buy this one
Nice video GameXplain
I love rhythm games, and I love Zelda games!
Here before changed thumbnail 🙏
can u diable the screenshaking?
I love the idea of a new pixel art zelda in 2019
the remixes only worth my 25 $
can't wait to play it
Im going to have to try beating this game with the deku scrub
Man i should pick this up!
I bought crypt because it was one sale in switch
Anybody wish this got a physical release?
Can we get Cadence in Smash now?!
When you buy the game purely for the soundtrack (or be like everyone else and just listen to it on UA-cam… or other sites)
Move to the beat ok what does that have to do with small bars constantly moving every second ? U need to jump when they reach the middle ?
Exactly. When the small bars meet in the middle, that's when the time to jump is. That's what is meant by "moving to the beat."
This game is really hard
Lol it's super easy
EJ Well that’s your Opinion.
@@EJ-ut1ln you're somewhere else in the comments saying it's too short also. that's more constructive than just bragging
@@We_Have_Dragons yeah it is my opinion
VGC
It’s still easier than the original Necrodancer
There is even breath of the wild main theme motif
DuskyPredator I will do the same if I can’t find anything again I guess I have to restart
DuskyPredator yeah I did the same thing you did and found one cave I missed but it just had a red chest so yeah I’m restarting the game and hoping for better luck
Probably a silly question...but can you play without sound?
You can, there's a visual beat counter as well. Or you can turn off the need to move to the beat and just play it like a standard roguelite
Not only can you play without sound, but you can also play without voice acting or music.... Or, if you want to play the game completely silent, just mute the Switch.
I actually have 14 hours on my save so it differs a bit
Where did the dr.mario world trailer go?
Now for a mario version?
If i ever played this game cuz i looks like a Cool Game
Get the first one today for 4 bucks on switch eShop
This game is great
If this is canon in the Zelda timeline, then is the first game too?
Amazing game., can't put it down, love it like I loved the original
....0/10, no Bongo Bongo
I've lost a sword for Link before so that doesn't make sense
So is it one of the best crossovers in gaming or is it worse than crypt?
its a shame i suck at the game, luckily they give the option to turn the rhythm mechanic off.
Whats the point of playing without the beat element thats pike ordering pizza without the sauce..... oh sorry THE SAUCE!!!
Can you review crash nitro fueled please?
What is the main difference of this game compared to an original 2D Zelda?
The rhythm aspect, precedurally-generated level design, playing as Zelda and a lot less item usage and puzzles than usual. Other than that, it retains a lot of what makes Zelda great, especially the remixes! Also, let me repeat: playing the whole game as Zelda. No other main game has done that, except for ....... Oops, we can't talk about that one.
@@EpicPaul64 which one?😂
You've never heard of the Phillips CDi Zelda games? Well... the less said, the better, but they're generally considered some of the worst games ever made, and Nintendo refuses to acknowledge that they even existed because they butchered the Zelda license so much.
If you're looking for another good Zelda spinoff, try the Hyrule Warriors games; preferably not the 3DS version if you don't have the "New" version.
@@EpicPaul64 omg i almost got eye cancer
From the CDi games? Yeah, that's putting it mildly, but from Hyrule Warriors? Yeah, insane action to that degree can certainly be strenuous to those not used to it.
It's good. But when all the dungeons are the same and the ending fizzles out without any other world dungeons... Good but disappointed at the end
