As someone who has been a Mario fan since I was 5. I grew up a lot with 2d Mario. I didn’t get into a lot of the 3d games until I was a teenager. So playing this game and seeing just how different, and wacky it is. It just makes me so incredibly happy. I didn’t even know I wanted this game but now it’s one of my favorite games of all time.
I just finished completing this game today. This game was such a joy to play. Very few games have me smiling from beginning to end nowadays, but Nintendo just keeps on delivering.
Not sure how much I like the new TLDW at the begining it sort of ruins the suspense for the completionist rating at the end... I'll always watch cause these videos are gold nonetheless but just wanted to throw that out there
I wonder if you're going to be receiving review copies from Nintendo now that this, "scandal" is out. I put the word, "scandal" in quotes because we all really want to hear what you're going to say.
Final Final Test was sadistic. But I love this game. And that Ninji stage...holy crap, I must have played that dozens of times. I farmed purple coins there just because it was too much crazy fun.
I adore games like this, because I, a SMB/Duck Hunt beginner from Ye Olden Days, can grab this with my wife who started at New Super U, and we can both enjoy Wonder together with the same amount of joy. This game is joy in and of itself, distilled, refined, and poured generously over everything.
I’m crying at the search party bit because I literally did the same thing at the same spot, drill standee and all, begging the other people to notice lmao
Lucky Jirard collected SOoooo much coin Now, hopefully that coin could be used to create a mushroom that cures alzheimerz.. Also, may we find ALL the hidden levels that have 600K + coin😊
In the last few years, the video game industry has been in a pretty bad shape almost all across the board. But Nintendo is going on it's own path and they keep delivering the quality of games that you'd expect from the industry at this point, like they are unaffected by the outside world
I’d say it just got kind of commodified as some mediums do once people realize they’re profitable. There’s still tons of great games being made like this, you just have to look harder with how badly a lot of mediocre AAA want you to get their games through ads. Try to listen to a variety of opinions and reviews to determine if a game’s worth your time. If we’re talking work conditions… yeah, it can get pretty bad depending on who the devs work for.
I'm having an absolute blast with Wonder, especially as my girl Daisy 🌼 Oh, I did that drill search party level tonight & had an epiphany on solving that last wonder token haha so I loved that bit you did with the standee & the online. This game is so fresh & innovative. Not just what they added but also what they took away: The timer on most levels & invincibility of water enemies where we can finally jump on them in the water. I haven't beat the game yet but it's up there in my fave 2D Mario games.
Call me old school fan of Super Mario Bros 3 but I really miss the other Koopalings. These guys would have been perfected to include in the boss stages instead of having to fight Bowser Jr over and over and over…. Why does Nintendo ignore those guys and Gal and love Bowser Jr so much. Can’t we have both?
Ignore? They’ve been in most of the 2D games lol. The koopalings have been in 3, world, NsmbWii, Nsmb2, NsmbU and Maker 2. Junior has been in NSMB, Wii, U, Maker, Maker 2 and wonder. Seems like a pretty even spread to me
That's because no one liked the Koopalings anymore. They brought them back in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and ever since than, they've been reappearing throughout most games in 2010's; mainline and spinoffs. And people are sick of them and wanted more variation of bosses. Heck. Bowser Jr. does all that the Koopalings do. So there's no point of bringing them back.
@@devarient Hmm I think you fail to see the nuances of my joke. You see, wonder is the base word of wonderful, and by saying it's wonderful, I'm making clever word play while saying that it's a good game. Hope that clears it up for you.
I was just glad to complete this game and see that Nintendo are still capable of cranking out a FULL game that's got loads of polish. My only gripe is that the Standees need to be unlocked to fully complete the save file, I never played or intend to play online, ignored the standee shop my entire playthrough, and then figured out I had to unlock them all with flower coins. Flower coins that have a cap of 999, which you can reach before halfway through the game... so I freaking lost thousands of coins I could have used to unlock these stupid useless things, instead now I've got to grind for coins with the rest of the game finished.
Between Wonder, the Super Mario Bros movie, Mario RPG and the announcement of Paper Mario, I think 2023 is the best year Nintendo has had since the release of the Wii. Tears of the Kingdom, too? Geez
It’s a short game with easy completion criteria. Plenty of levels you can 100% your first time through if not by the second or third. If you do every level as you go like that you’ll basically be at 100% by the time you reach the final boss so doesn’t take much longer than just playing the game normally.
I really wish it was more challenging. I felt like, as far as difficulty goes, it was no harder than Planet Robobot. However, Kirby games are designed with little to no challenge. I think Mario Maker ruined my brain for a Nintendo developed 2D Mario.
That’s something GrandPooBear has been saying. People have gotten so used to watching/playing kaizo Mario stages that they forget that main 2D Mario games are all pretty easy. Wonder is easier than others, but not by much.
Yeah, but since the jars are filled with water, you can throw them. Basically, the elephant triples their effectiveness. That stage would’ve been a better showcase for the elephant if the water was in pools or fountains so you could only douse the fire blocks with the elephant.
i feel like this game has another unique identity from other mario games in its focus on music and rythym, which is just another charming cherry on top of the great gaming experience it already is
As said by many others, “Mario Wonder” should really be called “Mario Adequate.” It’s fun, sports some zany animation and effects, but it also underwhelms with a cast of characters that all play the same, spotty on-line issues, those annoying talking flowers, and Elephant Mario, the series’ lamest lead powerup to date (far, far inferior to Cape or Raccoon Mario). Level design is also rather linear due to having to accommodate four players. It’d be nice to have levels more akin to some of those in Super Mario World in which full-range flight was possible. Ah well, a good game. But not quite wonderful. And definitely not Game of the Year.
I thought the same thing, but I only just beat the first world earlier tonight. I assumed that it would get harder later on. I'm guessing that it doesn't?
the firebars were the hardest part for me, invisibility isn't too bad, just gotta have a sense of where you are and if you're lost, look at the clouds for the trail mario leaves behind when flying through them
Really my only issue with the game was the lack of bosses. All you get is Bowser Jr. And he's not even in every world. Half the worlds just give you the Royal Seed without issues. And the flying ships don't even have bosses. Jr. should have been in the ships and the bosses in each world should have been the Koopa Kids. The NSMB games had better bosses. Each Koopaling had its own fight. In Wonder, Jr. only has one fight with slight "wonder" changes to the room during the fight. I hope we get a follow-up to Wonder that gives us some bosses. There's so much here that could be expanded on. I bet there are dozens of unused Wonder effects they didnt put in the game. I keep hoping for a Galaxy 2-esque followup to Odyssey. But I think that ship has sailed. But Wonder could really benefit from one in a few years on the Switch 2.
@larrylazer Aside from the bosses, I disagree. Everything about Wonder does so much better than the New Super Mario Bros series where they are soulless, bland & exactly the same game with nothing unique about them and the NSMB games weren't even that hard either.
@larrylazer You say all of that. Yet, Wonders does it exactly the same thing and then some. But way better. So how exactly does it make it worst than what NSMB did?
@larrylazer If u think getting through all the 100% completion or the entire game as an whole of Wonder is easy, than I'm sorry. But u and other people who think of it are lying up to your ass. Wonder ain't that easy to complete. And since when have Mario games ever been about being hard? The New Super Mario Bros games weren't that difficult to complete either. I know because I never died that many times more than I did in Wonder.
YES!! I FINALLY COMPLETED A GAME BEFORE YOUR VIDEO COMES OUT MEANING I CAN WATCH DAY OF RELEASE XD AMAZING game, been juggling this, spiderman, and pikmin 2 for completion and it's been ROUGH for me. Wonder is done, spiderman 50%, and one more cave in pikmin 2 =D
I have to say I love this game so far. I'm playing through it with my 6 and 4 year old and it's been a blast for all of us. The added challenge of getting through a level while keeping the 4 year old alive and not using up all our lives makes it great for my 6 year old and I. 😂 It took a while to convince him he wanted to be Yoshi instead of Mario but we did it. Great game for the whole family.
This is super late, but I’ve found it easier to just play as yoshi with my younger siblings… you don’t have to worry about dying as much and the little ones can hop on your back to get through difficult areas. Plus they can still use the power-ups and if you get struck, neither of you take damage. Sucks to not be able to use powerups, but you can collect powerups for them to use later. 😊

There is a folder in the Nintendo marketing budget simply labeled "Girard"
I just finished completing this game today. This game was such a joy to play. Very few games have me smiling from beginning to end nowadays, but Nintendo just keeps on delivering.
I wonder how many times he rehearsed, "It makes Nintendo... well, Nintendo." In the mirror before he started using it in UA-cam videos
Him going insane getting Marios attention was hilarious.
Jirard collecting and hoarding gold coins like collecting donations.
The top of the description of this video is him saying he is taking donations with indieland to fight dementia.... dude... .STOP
😂
playing psychonauts 2 now and even though mario was creative, psychonauts is just insane
13 hours for 99,999 Heart Points? How in the...?
I love how every time you talk about the original *_8-Bit SMB,_* you show footage from the *_16-bit All-Stars versoon._*
Not sure how much I like the new TLDW at the begining it sort of ruins the suspense for the completionist rating at the end... I'll always watch cause these videos are gold nonetheless but just wanted to throw that out there
You owe your mom an apology
The ghost won't be proud
Stopped playing Super Mario Wonder to watch this & then get something to eat, then right back to collecting more Wonder Seeds.
Funny, i just completed the game today…
This is the first mainline Mario game since Super Mario Land 2 where the plot doesn’t include rescuing a princess
Whoa. I hadn’t thought of that!
This was the first Mario game I've ever completed.
It's such a good game that I couldn't put it down.
Only folks I've seen who don't think this is a really nice comeback for 2D Mario are just jaded old grumpy people. It's just good, easy, dumb fun.
I feel like completing the game can be summed up with the phrase, “It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.”
I’m crying at the search party bit because I literally did the same thing at the same spot, drill standee and all, begging the other people to notice lmao
Lucky Jirard collected SOoooo much coin
Now, hopefully that coin could be used to create a mushroom that cures alzheimerz..
"the original 8-bit mario" - proceeds to show 16-bit mario
I’m with you-I never much liked Bowser Jr as a character very much. At least the Bowser Jr fights in this game had some good variety.
You might say this game is....
Wonderful.
Eyyyyyyy
Get out.
You are not *W O N D E R F U L*
He said wondrous so gg on making an unoriginal joke I guess
@@devarient well if I said wondrous that would be too obvious. Gotta mix it up.
@@blockyoxwinkle5829 you missed the point lmao. Type of guy to hear and idea then repeat it like it's their own 🤣🤣
@@devarient Hmm I think you fail to see the nuances of my joke. You see, wonder is the base word of wonderful, and by saying it's wonderful, I'm making clever word play while saying that it's a good game. Hope that clears it up for you.
Game be lookin quite Wonderful.
Use Nabbit. Power-ups become purple coins for him. Makes farming just a little easier.
It was so fun to watch you play this on stream. I love that someone played Daisy a bunch, as she's my fav mario character.
Great Video man! 31:27 for a good moment lol well put together and great feedback! Sad there wasn't no major unclock
This will be one hell of a year for you and your family.
Between Wonder, the Super Mario Bros movie, Mario RPG and the announcement of Paper Mario, I think 2023 is the best year Nintendo has had since the release of the Wii. Tears of the Kingdom, too? Geez
how did you do this in 13 hours?!? you madman!
Truly an amazing game that revitalized 2D Mario. Absolutely love it!
it’s so weird hearing the stats at the beginning of the video
Love this game
The lava block stage exemplifies the elephant power
@The_.Completionist sounds legit
Yeah, but since the jars are filled with water, you can throw them. Basically, the elephant triples their effectiveness. That stage would’ve been a better showcase for the elephant if the water was in pools or fountains so you could only douse the fire blocks with the elephant.
@erakfishfishfish maybe but then the stage would not be able to be completed unless elephant.
@@TheCrawdaddy029 you can finish the stage without dousing any blocks. The water just makes it easier.
I was wondering when you were gonna post this
i feel like this game has another unique identity from other mario games in its focus on music and rythym, which is just another charming cherry on top of the great gaming experience it already is
Bro is Scammer of the DECADE.
Bros got absolutely nothing on SBF
It’s the lack of difficulty that kills it for me.
Letting you keep coins and seeds even if you die was very generous too.
to this day, i never expected Jirard yelling at 10 year olds for doing a search puzzle XD
I found as a Mario veteran, it was a little on the easy side. Except for that final lvl. F-that invisible badge!
I thought the same thing, but I only just beat the first world earlier tonight. I assumed that it would get harder later on. I'm guessing that it doesn't?
@@Xoulrath_ It does. Not insanely hard but a bit harder.
the firebars were the hardest part for me, invisibility isn't too bad, just gotta have a sense of where you are and if you're lost, look at the clouds for the trail mario leaves behind when flying through them
I guarantee those online Mario bros probably thought to themselves “oh yeah I already got that one”
Why did it take this long for Nintendo to remove the timer?
And points.
Great game for the whole family.
that sounds utterly adorable!
I love this channel!
Lmao, @12:12 i swear Nintendo made them change the script from 'high' to something else and they still managed to slip in 'chasing the dragon' XD
Jirard is scammer of the year
I'm loving playing this game on my channel!
Unfortunately, The Completionist is not the Donator of the Year.
As much as I love it, it can't beat Tears of the Kingdom. Not even close.
Same.
Refund the people who donated. You let all your fans down. Although if you are the kind of person to do this you probably don't care
The music is completely unremarkable in this game
This adds a lot to this being the best year ever in gaming! At least it feels like that.
Welp, Poplin and Prince Florian confirmed for Mario Kart 10.
0:02 ye i don't trust you jirard
Rip
🤣🤣🤣
I wonder how much better the state of gaming would be if we just stopped giving deadlines
The Completionist is The Criminal of the Year
The thing about Wonder's online multiplayer, is that due to how it is designed, it works asynchronously, so there's NEVER any lag on your part.
Jirard the Professionalist and the final Review Copy he will ever get. Nintendo has been shamed by yoi
This is the first time I've been hyped for a Mario Game. In all my 25 years on this earth. *_The Artstyle and Vibe sells me!_* It's just adorable and chill!
I can’t help but miss what we could have gotten in a Mario Maker with this game’s new forms, enemies and of course wonder flowers. I’m sure we could have made some insane courses with these new tools. :( maybe in another time line
Wahh
I mean, there could be a Mario Maker 3?
I have high feelings they willl most likely make a Mario maker 3 on the next hardware. Since we had one for each system within their first year or two of being out. we probably will get Mario maker 3 by 2025 the latest I am predicting. @@analoren4745 coming from that pattern.
@@analoren4745maybe, but Mario Maker is not a super well selling game compared to other Mario titles. I forget the figures, but it doesn’t surpass any of the modern titles (2000s onwards)
@@anthonynguyen1289it probably has a lot to do with the fact that, as many levels as there can be, they aren't all that great. For every amazing level that is both well designed and challenging for platforming masters, there are dozens of others that are just trash. I want to play a game with well thought out levels across the board, with some type of consistency. I wasn't impressed at all when I played the first Mario Maker.
Dude, your beard is…
… AWESOME!!!!!!
