I have the same one could you do a video on how to thread it?
Thank you
This is the exact model I got from my mother. Will you please do a video showing how to thread it? I’m not sure I’m doing it right. My thread keeps break in the middle of a straight stitch.
Thanks, same as the others ( I go the manual online, but...). I am knew to sewing, I have the 17871 given to me... how do I thread it and use it - 101 basics? Thanks :)
my boyfriend mom just gave this same sewing machine
Please show how to thread this machine!
Cool I still have this identical machine and the original instruction book etc! 😁
Hey can you share some pictures of the instruction book that would be great so I can learn how to use this machine
Looks like a good starter machine for a novice. Seems user friendly.
This is actually a great machine for an advanced sewing enthusiast. It is great for self maintenance and can sew leather.
Need a tutioal how to thread! Darn
I need a copy of that manual Please. Where can I get one?
Hi can you show me how to thread this vintage machine please
Hi Stevie, I am looking to replace my needle holder screw. It’s a flat head screwdriver type. I’d like to replace it with a thumbscrew or something easier the a screwdriver screw. Thanks for your channel. You should teach professionally. My machine is a 158.16900 the screw is a littler counter sunken
I dont see why you couldnt honeslty as long as the thumb screw dont hit stuff as the needle bar moves up and down. And of course the same thread. I did exactly what you are talking about though and ended up going back to the screw. I didnt like the thumb screw being in my line of site and in my way when I was threading and what nots. I know its inconvent to have to keep a little screw driver handy but I found it was more encombersom haven a thumb screw in my way. But I wouldnt discourage it esp if you change needles a lot I could really see the advantage. I typically put on a fresh needle for a project and dont remove it and trash it til the project is over. I dont have to swap needles much. And I have a small army of machines so If I need to change up I usally just grab another machine to do what I need on that garment instead of resetting up a machine I was useing. But no every 1 has that luxury.
@@SewSaveMe thank you Stevie for all your help.
Hey just wondering if you were ever going to make a video with this machine to show us how to thread it all the functions that would be really great thanks so much and advance
Most likly not as Crystal no longer owns the machine.
Do you have any trouble with the stitch length dial adjusting itself during operation? I have this model from my grandmother, and I've found I have to tape that knob in place in order to keep the vibrations of the machine from changing its setting. It's almost like the knob adjustment is too loose.
i have the exact same issue with mine, and yeah, im about to tape it in place as well.
how is it strung? help?
How to thread it? I just got this machine too.
How do you thread the matching before you start sewing?
As this was crystals video have to wait for her to respond. But Me as in Stevie im not sure what your asking.
I'm surprised that you got such good stitches as you have the machine threaded incorrectly.
In this video, you have the red thread on the spool holder for filling a bobbin.
The correct sewing spool holder swings out below to the back and should have a plastic disk that holds the spool in place. The disk is larger than a spool so the thread comes off and swirls around it so the actual spool doesn't move, only the thread coming off of it.
The thread should come up from the spool to a loop on the back of the machine, then across the back to a round thread disk, then bring the thread to the front and down the slit on the right side of the silver piece, go under it then up the left side and it should hook onto the tension hook. Then back down through to the loop at the bottom of the silver piece, then the thread loop on the needle shaft then through the needle.
To fill a bobbin the spool of thread sits on the rod on the top of the machine after it has been pulled up. Take the thread to the round tension disk on the top of the machine, go around it from the left side, and take the thread over itself and over to the bobbin spinner. The thread over itself holds the thread so it doesn't bounce off the tension disk.
On the side pull the big wheel out so that it disengages with the inner workings and only spins the bobbin filler. When the bobbin is full it will trip out and stop spinning.
Thats because Kenmores are awesome and arent pickey.
Thank you you beautiful soul for this amazing description! I was handed down this machine from my husband's grandmother and had no idea how to do this! Thank you!
Thank you this detailed threading instruction helped me figure out this machine that I bought at Goodwil. 😊
I as well thank you very much!
Where did you find the presser foot adapter? Also, was your machine speed sluggish?

Do you sell a reproduction of the manual or know where I can find one. Thank you.
If you're still looking reply to this. I actually found this machine brand new in box never opened. I could scan it if you'd like?
Would you have any tutorials for a Kenmore Model 17871? I got this machine from Aunt Judy and don't know how to use it
