Rest in peace, Andy Rourke.
So sad to learn of his death this way. I suppose I don't watch enough news and living in the US you're most likely going to hear about the front man of a particular group. He was part of something very special that we loved
Bass player extradonaire ❤may he rip 🙏
I saw Morrissey in LA at the Hollywood Bowl and it was glorious! He and the band were on fire 🔥
HOW SOON IS NOW BY THE SMITHS:
How soon is now is definitely one of the most hypnotic songs I’ve ever listened too! I remember dancing to this song at prom and just being in my own headspace even though I was dancing with my prom date! She loved it too!
Fantastic group they packed so much in during those 5 years and not one bad song....you know the band had made it when they got on this show
nice docu. weird looking back at it now with so much time passing. They were pretty good weren't they.....
The most influential band of the 80s with songs that saved our lives for which we are forever grateful for.
(Rest In Music Andy Rourke.)
Thank you so much for uploading this video. I’ve been on The Smiths kicks lately so I really appreciate this
You’re most welcome :-)
🙏🙏 RIP Andy
I watched this in 1987 when I was 17 and thought it was all marvellous. I’m now touching 53 and it all seems like balls except for the music which is still wonderful.
Haha ditto mate.
Ha ha, yeah rock star interviews are never the high point.
Anyone with half a brain can recognise the musings of a great mind. He takes the piss as well as disclosing deep sorrows, or regrets. He' s authentic and the media (which can only process blandness doesn't know what to do with "authentic" except tear him down.
The only bad songs by the smiths are the cover versions they did under the misguided advice of Stephen , every single song morissey and marr and Joyce and rourke wrote were absolutely brilliant ,genius band , so glad they were my band in the 80s , Johnny was from my estate and he was still visiting his old mates to give them 12 inch singles , Andy used to go out with one of the girls on my estate , Mike Joyce shops in Tesco in wythenshawe , I worked with Mike and Andy when my band did a gig at the launch of the dvd about them , Andy came to see our band numerous times and he was a lovely kind man and he was very supportive of our music , they were our heroes in Manchester and I’m so glad I got to meet two of them and actually do a gig at one of their events
Awesome ! :D
I agree with you on the point about the covers. They truly were a blight. The song 'Meat Is Murder' I could go without ever hearing again: the lyrics and music are just ... not their high point (almost a cover version)
@@sexobscura it's one of my favourite songs by the smiths, I don't eat animals
Johnny massively channelling Keef here 💙
great doco, had never seen this content. thanks for uploading 🤜
A lot of big-ass chins presented here in this documentary, that's for sure.
Ludus, not Ludas.
Cheers for that. I'll amend xx

*I've got absolutely NO IDEA what Kent means by 'some very disturbing things in the lyrics'. They're very obvious and plain. The suicide songs and allusions to murder are jest or throwaway. I guess individuals see or interpret however it affects themselves (which is the band's strength). I just find his statement silly and shallow, but then again, it takes all sorts doesn't it*
Suffer Little Children is a beautiful song but a challenging subject. I can understand why some may find that disturbing. Handsome Devil was daring in the 80's but less so now
@BrandonMarlo_maitreDj
I'm aware of the 'paedophilia' claim made on Suffer Little Children and the ambiguity of Handsome Devil, but that was the charming wit of Morrissey's lyricism. I don't (can't) find them 'seriously disturbing', though
This reporter thinks he's an intellectual, but he needs too many words to express his ideas. Hack like most of them, especially now.
