George as always a great video. I have watched so many UA-cam videos on this subject and most left me more confused . Yours was very insightful and well thought out. Thank you.
This was a great video. I have been feeding more live foods to my Discus and Angels than I should be and it really is hard to get them off. I am going to start weaning them ASAP.
The content in this video was right on. I have always known that you have to feed a variety of foods to your fish. I ran into the same problem you mentioned in the video with Black Worms. One day I could get them and the next week they were nowhere to be found. It was a lesson learned for me.
Great video as always. Thank you for covering this subject so completely. This is an area I needed more clarity and you gave it to me.
Feeding is a challenge for me because I am on a budget and can't afford Live or frozen foods. I try to pick quality flake and pellets. Do you think that is enough for Discus?
Very good content and really made me think about the way I feed and what I feed. I have been raising fish for more than 10 years and this last few years with the COVID stuff it has been challenging especially with quality live foods. I never feed Blood Worms... not even frozen Thanks.
So very well articulated and to the point. The thing that differentiates your videos from others from larger Chanel’s. I predict your Chanel will grow considerably this next few months!
I’m surprised you don’t talk about making your own food for them. I got my receipt from John Posada and since then I’ve been feeding them my own food and they love it. I also save a lot of money making it my self.
I actually Just started two new homemade foods. I am going to grow my own Black worms and do a video on that. Also I am starting to make a great beef heart recipe That I got from Gabe Posada a while back but it was mess to make. I am going to re-start that food alternative as well. Thank you.
Very good video, learned many things. Thanks
You are very welcome. Glad I could help.
a quick suggestion for not forgetting to turn back on the filters and flow is to use a timer ($3-5) and set it for an hour to feed or half an hour then it auto turns back on. thx for all the videos i am going to try discus again after a long break gonna do a bare bottom and plan out ez water changes as that seems to be the key.
Buy a water changing kit that you can just screw on the faucet and then remove when you are done.
@@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto ok do you have a link? i wasnt sure if the faucet has enough pressure to pump the water like 15 feet. i can elevate the tubing of course. that would really help. and i can drain the water outside with a DYI pipe apparatus.
@@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto nvm i see some. ty for suggesting
@@bakotako Thank you for the reminder on turning the pumps back if on a timer
Live brine shrimp are easy to grow and feed.
George, good information as usual. One thing is when you talk of 3 water changes a week you might be putting off folks to the hobby. I have been doing one change a week in all my tanks fresh, discus and salt water with no changes in water parameters in between. Having good biological systems which includes substrate I believe makes this possible. I understand the cleanliness of bare bottom but not a fan both esstecticly and biologically.
That is my recommendation and my policy, but I do not believe this is for everyone.
How many discus would you advise or recomend in 89g tank (330l) will be housed with rummy nose 15-20 and cory 12-15 and 4 rams 4 siamese algae eater 5 otos and a couple of bristle nose, will be run on 2 external fx4 and water changes weekly 25% is the plan
7 would be the # I would be looking at. Make sure they are all the same age and added at the same time. This will require daily 25% water changes. The Bristle nose may create a problem as they will uproot a well planted tank over time as they grow. Make sure your plants are glued down well. Good luck.
beautiful.. where you get yellow albino sir? thanks
Wattley Discus In Miami, Fl tell them George from Seattle sent you.
@@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto thanks George
Hi George
In another video you mentioned using garlic guard to get them to eat foods besides frozen. I have a fish who is now on day 5 of refusing food. I’ve ordered some garlic guard at your suggestion to stimulate eating. How does one go about using it? Do you mix it with flakes? Or pellets?
CallEither is fine. Is this a new fish? Have you added any new fish to the tank?
Call me at 253-376-3747
@@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto All 5 of my fish are new. All roughly same age. Four are from Hans Discus and one is from the local fish store. The one I’m having trouble with is the one from the local fish store. All the others are eating fine using the pellet food provided by Hans. His own brand food. He will eat frozen foods but after watching another video where you recommend letting them go without eating I decided to try that. So I feed them all and wait to see if he eats. So far nothing. Day 5. So I’ve ordered some of the Garlic Guard suggested on another of your videos but I’m not sure how to use it.
I’m new to discus. I’ve kept fancy goldfish most of my life and decided to switch to discus. Thanks for your advise and especially your feedback.
What size is the tank behind you? 36” x 24 x 24?
