My freshwater fish, I feed a mix of Hikari pellets. My saltwater fish get a mix of frozen foods(mysis, Callanus, brine, mussel, squid, krill, roe and a vitamin called selcon. Tangs and wrasses also get a sheet of seaweed.)
This is my favorite your tanks and fish room has ever looked through all the years. I love all your set ups in every tank. The lights make the lighting in each tank more realistic. The black in the room makes every tank stand out. Just gorgeous. I’d love to do this in my house
Love watching the feeding videos! It took me a long time to get it through my head to stop overfeeding. It's just so calming to sit back and enjoy watching them eat.
Joey’s right; I have dwarf pea puffers that would only eat ramshorn snails, but not trumpet snails. I skipped feedings and I started seeing empty trumpet shells in aquarium. Now they eat both vigorously.
I have 7 platinum koi that I rescued and they were neglected and didn't get fed, so I bought them fed them and been raising them since they were half and inch long, but now they're healthy and 5inches long
Kudos to the King of DIY- this video was very instructive and entertaining. It confirms several feeding practices I had already implemented caring for my oscars. Thank you Joey
As a fellow fish house/gallery keeper its nice to see your prepared, generators etc i have never had to test my setup for real but i can imagine the stress, good luck and hope all goes well
A hardware store 😅 years ago gave me the best advice! They had a huge decorative tank...all sizes fish told me they fed 1x every 2 weeks! I experimented with my now 6 community tanks and comfortable feeding variety every 5 days. Been going well for many years! Looking to start goldfish tank. Understand to feed more. You're right... Type of fish matters as well as variety. Good info video thanks!
Father Fish was my lightbulb moment. He advocates for very minimal feeding. So now I feed three times a week or so. I only keep planted tanks and they harbor many microorganisms and natural algae. The fish will feed on these and it helps reduce maintenance time. I also feed a lot less algae wafers and the like to bottom feeders. The food you give to your other fish are consumed, digested, and released with most of the nutrients still in it and then your scavengers pick at that and consume it. As it is digested more and more it's broken down in the food web until it becomes more available for plants. Really cool how nature works. My cories are still looking plump and very active.
Agree with all that Joey. Anyone running a canister filter will soon know if they are over feeding when they come to clean out the sludge. One thing I discovered by accident .... I feed my growing discus a beef heart mix so also feed that to juvenile Tetra's and Cory's occasionally. Just tiny amounts shaken up in a small container with tank water to break it up. Most of the time they spawn easily on that so no need for live food with the inherent risk. Keep up the good work. :-)
My Uaru have laid eggs 4x now in my aquarium that also has severum and geos. They always eat their own eggs. I think because it's a community set up and protecting the eggs is stressful or maybe just not getting fertilized. I don't have space to do a Uaru only breeding tank but would love to do it. I've read they can lose their bond quite easily so might be something to consider if you move them. But it would be cool to see you give it a try. If you're successful maybe I'll find room lol. Great video!
This def. gives me something to consider. Your exactly right though feeding is a way to interact and I do find myself feeding for that purpose. I am going to try the every other day with the larger fish and see how that goes.
we have a 55 gallon tank that has 6cardinal tetras, 1 rosaline shark, 4butterfly loaches, 10khuli loaches, 1 white skirt tetra, 1 albino bushynose pleco, 3 albino corys, 2 jewilis corys, and 6 (4 regular and 2 gold) dojo/weather loaches. we feed them flakes twice a day. Shrimp pellets once or twice a week as well as frozen mysis shrimp which the dojo's go nuts for. we also have a 35 gallon cube tank that has 3 dwarf gouramis, 6 cardinal tetras, 4 red wag sordtails, 6 rummy nose tetras, 5 purple harlequin tetras, 3 panda corys, 7 kholi loaches, 2 chili rasboras and 1 albino bushynose pleco. this tank is fed flakes as their daily primary food. they also get catfish pellets and shrimp pellets every other day. once a week both tanks will get frozen bloodworms, tubifex worms and brine shrimp (for the 35g) or mysis shrimp for the 55g.
Love watching your vids mate they have definately given me new ideas with my set up With the ray tank the filter may need a media change. Just like a pool set up after a few years the media (sand/glass/etc) will start to soften or lose the sharp edges when this occurs it will cause improper filtration and cloudy water
This is an awesome video. And a real light bulb moment for me! I have been over feeding but now will take stock on what I am doing and try a better and simpler approach. Thanks Joey 😊
I feed once a day with my bettas. My community tank I feed twice a day to ensure my frogs and bottom dwellers get a feed past the greedy live bearers. I feed either flake food or bloodworms. Excellent video, thank you 😊gonna try making a mix as u have. Probably easier and more time saving for me
Do you weigh the activity level of the fish? I feed my danios twice a day because they are in a very high flow aquarium that they love swimming directly in the flow of. Because od all that energy they use I feed them twice.
Fish from habitats with a lot of flow are mostly used to food scarcity and adapted to the flow. So you probably don't have to feed them twice. But if you keep the portions in check it should be fine.
Hey Joey? One of the lights over your really nice looking aquariums started shaking wildly back and forth around the 8:45-9:00 time mark. Dunno wut's going on there but that kinda caught my attention outside of the gorgeous set ups you have~!
I’ve had several arothron puffers who got along great with the other fish in the tank but as soon as it came to feeding time it didn’t matter. If the other fish had a chunk of food that the puffer wanted, the fish would have to drop it or else! I had several fish get rather large chunks taken out of them! They are definitely gluttons and come feeding time nothing else matters. I had a 300 with a 12” golden puffer and 10” clown trigger, most of the time the trigger was in charge but during feeding he would always submit to the golden.
Great job Joey! Tanks look awesome as always and one of the best videos I've seen spoken like a true leader! I don't know the exact numbers but I bet you 95% of people over feed way too much. I have been in the hobby for over 40 years and currently have over 25 tanks, everything you said is exactly spot on as far as I see thanks for the great info and for sharing with everyone.
Your tanks look absolutely amazing my man. The piranha one...is still my fav. This video helped a lot. I am struggling with trying to get my black piranha to eat. I'm afraid I ruined him after he grew out of the juvenile period by giving him "feeder goldfish". After hearing horror stories about feeder goldfish, I'm trying frozen fish like cod, tilapia, perch, shrimp, etc. Not only can feeder goldfish be expensive but some days, I'd rather not leave the house and just go in my freezer just like you, let it thaw and drop it in the tank. In your opinion, should I starve him a few days and try the frozen fish again. I have a piece of squid that's been in there for over a day now. I'm about to take it out because clearly, he doesn't want it. Please let me know your suggestions, when you have a moment...but thanks for this video. You're a monster with this fish game.
Yo, for the beefheart recipe, just grind down the shrimp with the shell ON, not the heads or tails though, and cut off the tough spine near the tail. That will be a sufficient binder so as you don't make a mess in your tanks. :)
I have a 40 breeder with a solo electric blue acara. I feed him cut up shrimp twice a day or three very small meals a day. He unfortunately won't eat anything but frozen bloodworms, bladder snails, and cut up shrimp (he never has). I went on vacation this past December and left him without food for 6 days. He wouldn't even tough flakes or pellets when I came back. I'm considering trying to soak the flakes and pellets in the same container I have my cut up shrimp in.
Hi Joey I love the gallery looks amazing. I feed my fish twice a day but I notice sometimes they don’t want to eat. So I’m trying just to feed them once a day a mix of flake food and some pellets too.
Joey, I have a question for you big guy. How much air do I need for my K-1 chamber? Dementions of the chamber is 5" wide, 21" long, 12" sump water height? My Bubble bar is the 1/2" pvc pipe 21" long air input into both ends.
Hi Joey, I love your content & always look forward to your next video. I've learned a lot from the knowledge that you share & I'm sure there's still more to learn. I love your gallery & your variations in species of fish. I myself would love for you to do a Jack Dempsey tank. I think they're gorgeous cichlids, constantly changing in color letting you know how they feel yet I admit pretty aggressive also yet I feel they're overlooked often in the hobby. I guess it's just a suggestion. Again thanks for all you offer to the hobby.
I just got a betta, and I have been feeding it 3-4 betta pellets in the morning, and at night I feed it 2 pellets, and I am think about getting a few tetras for the tank, but I don’t know what to feed all the fish together, but I think I am going to feed them tropical flakes, but I don’t how how much
I have a 15” Fluval tank, I have a big black Moor goldfish, a red and white Goldfish, a bristlenose and two assassin snails (which I always think are dead until I see them moving once in awhile), I feed mine twice a day, a pinch of flakes in the morning and a few pinches of frozen kale in the evening. I’m thinking about getting two angel fish.
You shouldn’t mix tropical fish with goldfish. Not trying to sound preachy at all but their needs are very different, food, temperature, temperament. You will not be able to keep both kinds happy at the same time. Set up another tank for the angels.
Maybe you can get some tetras or a small rainbow or something in your apisto tank to give it more life. Just a little school of something plus some Cory's cats and or kuli loaches down at the bottom to help with that detritus.. and a splash of green maybe some jungle val.. Quite an excellent selection of tanks though good collection. Oh and a couple of Colombian shark cats for your brackish tank. And a large school of Apollo sharks in your stingray aquarium would be so dope.
You could add pre filters also to your stingray tank for polishing you can add them in line with your Altima they just serve as polishers let your Altima do all the bacterial filtration in the prefilter will get all the poop and food waste
Heads up on using the Convict babies as food, do it when they are still small, once the convicts get around the three quarter inch range, i think their spines get too hard/sharp and your fish wont eat them anymore. Keep up the good work.
Great video as usual. Love seeing the gallery. One thing I never heard you mention were blood worms. I give those as a "snack" food. What's your thoughts on that type of food?
I have two 33 gallon community tanks, I feed different food every day. Tetra mini granules, tetra pro color crisps, different brand catfish pellets, different brand flake, I add half an algae wafer occasionally although only one of the tanks eat it. Frozen blood worm once a week usually the day before I plan a water change. When I do a water change every 7-10-14 days I don't feed them the day after and occasionally I skip a day maybe once a week or every 2 weeks. I have all small fish platys, rummynose tetra, ember tetra, honey gourami, corydoras, bristlenose and nerite snails although they don't eat anything except algae, i've never seen them try and eat any other type of food.
Excellent video again!! How are the aratus when they show they are male and turn black, do they get along ? I have a bunch, I separated two males into my peacock tank and have two in my Mbuna tank with six female. I put my hand in the water and grab one when they fight and go in circles, it stops the fight, for a while... I have bumble bee too and I handle them too when I'm in there cleaning and not, they bite my finger, I pet there heads, they let me pick them up, and come back for more.
If you ever wanna do a crazy meat eating tank like the Exodons or Piranha, you should get a school of Cetopsis Coecutiens, the Blue Whale Catfish/Giant Candiru. They're like little great whites that BORE into flesh like some sort of crazy living drill bit lol
I have been feeding once a day. I rescued a 5” fahaka and he is being really picky right now. He won’t east clams, shrimp, silversides, krill. I’m trying all kinds of things. He will eventually eat the piece if I leave overnight. I think I need to do what you said and wait a couple of days.
My lightbulb moment was having a sick fish and someone just said to fast them for a few days, and it was amazing how well it worked. Decided to skip a day of feeding on them here and there.
Hi Joey, can you tell me how you prepare that black stuff (of what you say has everything in it) you said it has meat, vegetables etc in it Thnx in advance
A tank of around 30 Malawi Cichlid's... I feed a mix of pellets and flake in the morning and fresh in the evening, but both meals are quite small and spread throughout the tank so everyone gets a bit. Everything is gone pretty quick. All fish are healthy and active and the water quality is perfect. Small meals often or larger meals spread out... What do you think is best?
Joey, I have a question. When do you start feeding your Asian Arowana every 2 days. Mine I feed 2x daily but, I think it’s already 15” long, so I might try to lower the frequency of feeding. Lmk your thoughts and advice me pls.
Hey! Not commented before but after watching this video, I had been meaning to do so. Sadly, I expect my comment will dissappear at the bottom but hey; worth a shot. So, I'm curious about your thoughts and experience with feeding preds and Thiaminase/vitamin B. I regularly feed my preds with a mix of dry and frozen foods, including prawns/shrimp and Mussels but its been drummed into me that these foods are high in Thiaminase and therefore, low in vitamin B. I note you use these foods, possibly exclusively with your rays and Asian Aro, which made me curious; based on the nutritional problems with comonly available frozen foods, what do you do if your fish only accept frozen?
I absolutely love your gallery!!! I’ve only had a tank for about a year now and it actually started as a tank for my red eared slider and I ended up adding fish. He hasn’t eaten any of them so I just keep branching out. I currently have two black angels, four pearl danios, four tuxedo mollies, 3 Dalmatian mollies, two neon tetras, and too many panda corydoras to count. I started with 4 and they keep breeding like crazy. What do you do with them? I feel like the tank is getting crowded. It’s a 55 gallon with all of those fish and a one year old turtle but idk what to do with the extra fish? Do you give them away? Do I need to get another tank? Also, after watching this video I’m pretty sure I’m way over feeding my fish lol. I just assumed that any extra food would be consumed by all of the corydoras but the water is pretty cloudy even though I’m running a fluval fx4 on a 55 gallon tank. It has always been a dream of mine to have stingrays. I absolutely love them. They’re gorgeous and adorable.
I feed my five baby oscars with shrimp, mussel and pellets. Do you think that is good and do you think I will be able to have the same variation of food if I were to buy a silver arowana? Love all the content my guy, you’ve helped me a lot ❤️
I feed once a day. But I feed something different almost every day! Pellets, flakes, blood worms, seaweed, shrimp pellets, wafers, and cucumbers & green beans (I have several Plecos). The only ones I struggle with are my Tetras because they are with my Tiger Barbs and the Barbs eat so FAST that I have to trick them to get food to the Tetras. I don't think my Tiger Barbs would ever stop eating!!!!!
I feed my fish once a day, usually late at night a couple of hours before tank lights go out -- and I feed Exclusively New life spectrum probiotix or New life spectrum cichlid formula -- i feed that to all my fish. I feed them as much as they can eat where they stop looking for food and what sinks down is for my cactus plecos.
Enjoy your video's. Are all the stumps and sticks and rocks in your tanks real? I'm in the process of making a tank 1421 gallons. 4dx5wx10L in my new shop. Im putting an 85 inch by 32 inch front viewing window. I'm making it for my koi. Is it safe to put a stump from the St Lawrence river in it? Thanks in advance for your input. Peace&Out
been feeding once a day , didnt know the kids started feeding as well. Fish don't get fat , the food just gums up the system. Have had some 90% water changes the last month because of it. But also just have a 30 gallon with mollies , tetras , and danios. So feel the smaller fish need less food daily vs more food every 2 days.
I've got a simple feeding schedule. My axolotl gets 2 earthworms daily and my tank with corydoras and guppies get 3 small meals a day made up of flakes and a micro sinking pellet
Hey Joey, you’re most likely not going to see this, but if anyone does see this, I’m currently struggling to get my Archer fish to eat after a recently purchasing them. The LFS said they was eating frozen blood worm, but they are not taking anything, and shying away in the tank, is this a acclimatisation thing or stress from the move, or possible intimation from larger fish already in the tank? Any help would be great 😂
Hey Joey, Cause of your vids and passion for the hobby i recently got my first 20 gallon aquarium but now i have a problem with heating it. I am using a jbl 150w heater its suppose to handle much more water then i have in my aquarium. But everytime in the morning the tempeture of the water dropped 1 degree and it has never hit the tempeture i put it on (24 degrees celcius). Do you maby know what i can try?
Predator fish feed once in the 2 days, puffers to. Small fish like a communitie tank i feed them every day once. Crayfish or shrimp or snails twice a day. I do this over 20years now and all good and healty
I have done feeding in the same manner and my fish show good growth and amazing color I have bet seen them more color up.(mixed pellets and frozen foods)
Normally when the filter does this 1 not enough sand in the filter! 2 crack in the pipe 3 the head is not operating properly, meaning the head is really in backwash mode
I have 3 African cichlids about 2-3 inches in a 20 gallon tank for now. I feed them twice a day. Before I go to work 6:30 in the morning and at 7pm when I come home from work. I do have a 60 gallon tank with 1 African cichlid about 4 inches. I feed him 1 to 2 times a day. Same times. I will be putting the 3 in the 60g sooner or later. Thank you for helping me to feed less.
I used Ron's cichlids food they also make a health food that has medication in it too. But the ingredients are very well proportion
My freshwater fish, I feed a mix of Hikari pellets. My saltwater fish get a mix of frozen foods(mysis, Callanus, brine, mussel, squid, krill, roe and a vitamin called selcon. Tangs and wrasses also get a sheet of seaweed.)
Your tanks are ABSOLUTELY gorgeous! 😍
Joey, I must say all of your tanks look spectacular! Definitly the best version of the gallery, even the fish selection is perfect
Damn the boto must be good af yeah u big and long guarantee
This is my favorite your tanks and fish room has ever looked through all the years. I love all your set ups in every tank. The lights make the lighting in each tank more realistic. The black in the room makes every tank stand out. Just gorgeous. I’d love to do this in my house
@31:00 - this is probably first video of Kyle , how is no one as much psyched as I am ! Hahahaha
Oscars with the fahaka😍 so pretty! Kinda wanna clear my tank now.....
Love watching the feeding videos! It took me a long time to get it through my head to stop overfeeding. It's just so calming to sit back and enjoy watching them eat.
Your Oscar tank is my favorite. I love it
Joey are you ever going to make a hillstream tank? I get it's a challange but would love to see it in action!
Joey’s right; I have dwarf pea puffers that would only eat ramshorn snails, but not trumpet snails. I skipped feedings and I started seeing empty trumpet shells in aquarium. Now they eat both vigorously.
I like Kyle he is or never will be frank but he looks cool he definitely has cool colors

Absolutely impressive. This is one of the best fish galleries I ever seen. 👏 bravo!
Mix some agar agar in your beef heart mix it will reduce the turning into dust issue.
It's been about a year since I've watched you nice to check-in and see you still so excited and enjoying your hobby.
Awesome video Joey. This is truly a video every fish keeper should see
My 💡 moment on feeding my fish was when i found you!!! You showed me so much including your recipes. You rock my phenomenal friend.
@KingDIY1 👋 Joey! What's up? Glad you liked my post.
Nothing better then a King Of DIY video as my break 16 hours into the snow! Great video as always!
Great to see the knowledge of what's needed and what's not, explained simply. Very well put together show there.

I’ve been making my “trail mix” of 4 to 5 pellets, flakes, and treats for my fish and they have been healthier and more energetic since!

I do the same, I have high flow tanks with minnows and feed twice a day, with a varied diet.

lol
I enjoyed the long video, I wouldn’t mind more of them. I feed my fish once a day.

I wouldn’t do that.
I learned a lot since I wrote that comment.
Thanks.
Wow the funnest video I have watched from you in a wile great job 👏
Always in a good mood for watching your content - I do hope you are alright, and have a great day! See you soon ❤️🌹
You and IFG got me good today with that phone call, Joey!
Great video as usual. Love seeing the gallery.
One thing I never heard you mention were blood worms. I give those as a "snack" food. What's your thoughts on that type of food?
Great video, keep it up 🕊️🇬🇧
I have two 33 gallon community tanks, I feed different food every day.
I really look forward to your videos. I have a question are you planning any videos on your Saltwater water tank in the near future? TIA
i am an overfeeder, but i love it and love your videos
If you ever wanna do a crazy meat eating tank like the Exodons or Piranha, you should get a school of Cetopsis Coecutiens, the Blue Whale Catfish/Giant Candiru. They're like little great whites that BORE into flesh like some sort of crazy living drill bit lol
I have never heard of these and can't wait to learn more, these sound cool! Gotta look them up
You know what I like about this channel? I always feel like I'm in the video.
Absolutely loved the video.
😍😍
My lightbulb moment was having a sick fish and someone just said to fast them for a few days, and it was amazing how well it worked. Decided to skip a day of feeding on them here and there.
Hi Joey, can you tell me how you prepare that black stuff (of what you say has everything in it) you said it has meat, vegetables etc in it
Thnx in advance
A tank of around 30 Malawi Cichlid's... I feed a mix of pellets and flake in the morning and fresh in the evening, but both meals are quite small and spread throughout the tank so everyone gets a bit. Everything is gone pretty quick. All fish are healthy and active and the water quality is perfect.
Small meals often or larger meals spread out... What do you think is best?
What type of Malawi’s are they? Mbuna, Haps or Peacock’s? Each have different dietary needs?
Joey, I have a question. When do you start feeding your Asian Arowana every 2 days. Mine I feed 2x daily but, I think it’s already 15” long, so I might try to lower the frequency of feeding. Lmk your thoughts and advice me pls.
Are you still going to make a video on the diy filtration for the 700 gallon aquarium?
I note you use these foods, possibly exclusively with your rays and Asian Aro, which made me curious; based on the nutritional problems with comonly available frozen foods, what do you do if your fish only accept frozen?
i love kevin :)
Yeah should be fine
I feed once a day. But I feed something different almost every day! Pellets, flakes, blood worms, seaweed, shrimp pellets, wafers, and cucumbers & green beans (I have several Plecos). The only ones I struggle with are my Tetras because they are with my Tiger Barbs and the Barbs eat so FAST that I have to trick them to get food to the Tetras. I don't think my Tiger Barbs would ever stop eating!!!!!
Glad I did this😊big change in the fish
I also feed once a day., unless there are babies. Loved the video 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Peace&Out
Nice video buddy
been feeding once a day , didnt know the kids started feeding as well.
Any help would be great 😂
Hey Joey,
Cause of your vids and passion for the hobby i recently got my first 20 gallon aquarium but now i have a problem with heating it. I am using a jbl 150w heater its suppose to handle much more water then i have in my aquarium. But everytime in the morning the tempeture of the water dropped 1 degree and it has never hit the tempeture i put it on (24 degrees celcius). Do you maby know what i can try?
Can't wait for your collab with Will. Did you see he just got 2 new caiman?
Predator fish feed once in the 2 days, puffers to. Small fish like a communitie tank i feed them every day once. Crayfish or shrimp or snails twice a day. I do this over 20years now and all good and healty
I have done feeding in the same manner and my fish show good growth and amazing color I have bet seen them more color up.(mixed pellets and frozen foods)
We love your videos!!
I have a question. What is your most secretive / boring fish and what is your most interesting/ active fish
@The king of DIY Where do you recommend purchasing your shrimp from? You mentioned ensuring no parasites, etc.
Grocery store! Frozen. Not cooked. The bigger the count on the bag, the small the shrimp will be.
Normally when the filter does this 1 not enough sand in the filter!
2 crack in the pipe
3 the head is not operating properly, meaning the head is really in backwash mode
Are those fish with the red bottom fin, Severums ?
If so what kind.
I have 3 kinds but wanna grab one if those.
Where could I get one ?
good content...but still waiting for that fresh water eel community tank lol
Nice video ❤️
I have 3 African cichlids about 2-3 inches in a 20 gallon tank for now. I feed them twice a day. Before I go to work 6:30 in the morning and at 7pm when I come home from work. I do have a 60 gallon tank with 1 African cichlid about 4 inches. I feed him 1 to 2 times a day. Same times. I will be putting the 3 in the 60g sooner or later. Thank you for helping me to feed less.
