Oh Henry. What a good man you are. Thank you for sharing and thank you for showing us that the world is a finer place for having in it people like you.
When mommy duck's not around when they hatch, the others will take the first hatched as their mommy.. Same with my clutch..now theyre all grown up..it was both exhausting and fun raising all 5 of them
As a duck rescuer (over the tassie in NZ) its sad your local wildlife rescue told you to crack the eggs, as studies have sown they can suffer and feel pain from 7 days into incubation and whoever told you that had no idea how far along they were. Also to anyone considering whether to rescue eggs, if you can be certain a duck has already been on them for a while (at least q few days here she is sitting in the eggs most the day) incubating them, id not wait 24 hrs to take, as they could die, maybe give it 5--10 hrs dep on weather. Having said that, be aware ducks dont start incubating eggs till all are laid, so what they do is go to their nest each day, lay and egg, then head off and come back the next day, till they have anything from 10-20+ eggs (but usually, 12 -16 or so for wild mallards). Then they start to sit. And I have noticed my domestic ducks and wild rescue ducks will both often start to sit for a day and get off and leave the nest for 12-24 hrs, the get back on, in the first day or two, before they start sitting seriously, but the eggs still hatch ok. Once they are sitting, they usually only leave the nest a couple of times a day for 10-30 mins, an hr tops, depending on how far they are travelling to find some food and water). Domestic ducks can never be released into the wild and expected to care for themselves, regardless of how they are raised. Their inability to fly means they will be unable to escape predators or find food and water sources if food/water in the immediate area isn't suitable. Wild flying ducks, pretty much instinctively know how to find food and do what they need to do to survive, as long as they are raised with at least one other duckling as a sibling (otherwise they can imprint on you, the human and not even realise they are a duck!). I still prefer to soft release any animal though which means release it with a shelter which u leave there, and put food there every few days. I would never, ever release a duck which could not fly into the wild though, at any age.. Anyway, well done Henry on looking after these little ones and taking the time not just to hatch them but to learn how to care for them. It's amazing how many people have ducks and know not even the basic about caring for them, which is a pity because they are fascinating intelligent creatures and well worth learning about. I hope like me you have found the rewards when the cute lil buggers hatch, out weigh all the time and effort spent looking after them. You should consider becoming a duck rescuer/rehabber in your spare time, often bird rescue centres need people to raise ducklings over spring, which can then be released, which gives you a great experience without a long term commitment.
That was a great read, Thankyou Kim!! It was defiantly a rewarding experience, now every time I see a duck outdoors I always get excited and it warms my heart, my girlfriend even bought me a duck figurine 😂 bless you for rescuing the beautiful animals
A duck laid her eggs in my neighborhood and I kept seeing if she was ok, she was, but then one day all her eggs were gone, they didn’t hatch because there was no egg residue, what do you think happened?
Henry, you are a national hero. I am making all of your videos. Long time cook but resurrecting my Persian cooking skills. You are my hero! I am also Persian and these recipes are amazing.
To anyone who thought of hatching and raising ducklings, my advice is go for it..but at least do basic researches on the web, how to operate the incubator and eggs, what to do and not do. Its not a one week past time hobby.. Needs some serious dedication and passion for it. If you ever think you may neglect or give up on them sometimes later, better not to hatch them
we are attempting to do what you have done. Or dogs scared away mom duck who was in our tall grasses. Since they were already fertile we couldn't let them die. Thanks for your video we are heading I THINK into our last week . It was helpful. I am a teacher so my students are always asking. excited
You did great considering that it's your first time! just wanted to say, you can see the life in the eggs when your candeling even better if you do it in a dark room. Just a tip to see better but you did great
Good job I’m in the same situation still having this baby duckling I took him to the wildlife place that would re-introducing me to the wild and let him go on this nature preserve but they only had two equal ducklings there in mine would’ve had to go into a glass incubator all by himself with a bright light shining on them all night so I brought him back home and I’m bonding with him and teaching him things and feeding him much better food than he would’ve gotten there at least more variety LOL I’m going to take him there but I’m waiting till they have more baby ducks that are his age so he can have some friends
The most important thing with baby bird is to keep them warm and dry and if they start looking weak or sick or closing their eyes and following their head they need sugar water to get some energy and I found that Ducks really like watermelon and it works well for putting them back up. If they won’t eat anything you need to use a little eyedropper and put it in the corner of the mouth until they open up and drink it but also if he gets on them he got to dry them off because they can’t die of hypothermia very fast
Oh my gosh my baby looks like your six hour old babies exactly I know he’s at least three days old but I thought thought he was older than that geez! poor little baby! Mine Is a pretty good swimmer he already was when I got him out from the pond but another thing to note for people watching is that they don’t have their regular feathers so they’re basically like a pillow and get drenched and Kendra and easily so they need to be really really dry when they come out and really really warm like warmer than humans like 103 I think is what Ducks temperature is so if they’re shaking make sure they get warmed up as they will die very very fast!I learned this and also in the wild the mama put oil on their feathers for them so that’s why they can do it sooner
I ferst think you find them running out side but to hear how you saved them from serten deth in the egg you done well good on you henry good to see humanety
Henry have enjoyed your cooking video but my friend this was a good deed yes the mother had her nest disturbed by simply from a person walking by good job.
I've got a couple of questions. 1: What purpose does rotating the eggs serve, and 2: Is the rotation schedule done 24 house a day or would a human surrogate parent get a chance at an 8 hour snooze?
Brother Henry you are a very good human being. I hope God will send you a good woman who will give you ducklings of your own. I know you will make a awsome father.
Older the better, someone's got to teach young henry a lesson or two. Nothing like an older babydoll to make a man's knees all wobbly. Lol You catch ma drift. Haaaaaa
I just got a egg hatched I not sure what to do I don't know how do what u do I placed him inside a warm sock I washed it now what how long I got keep him warm
Mom left her eggs for more than 24 hrs now she has not left them....should give them a chance to come back and finish laying their eggs...today 15 chicks...let nature take its course...hawks took the first batch now the second batch is in my care...they are happy and healthy.
I went on a walk today.., I found an egg with the other ducks walking away from it. I waited for about 2 hours, and they didn't come back. I have made an enclosure with a heat bag because I do not have a lightbulb. Am I doing okay?
+Magda Freeman hi Magda, I found a local lady who has an entire flock of the same ducks, I gave them to her as I wanted them to have friends they could play with, I felt a bit cruel keeping 2 ducks alone from the outside world. When they play with others there's a more likely chance they'll roam free :) thanks for asking
I always wanted to be the first to comment, but there is no way. Who are these people who comment at the speed of light? What Internet do they use? What do they live for? Where they live? What do they eat?
Thank you for this experience. That was quite a commitment, especially not having any done anything like that before.
Thank you for posting this video! A mother duck was nesting near my backyard and and a falcon took her. This was a really big help.

If i have 1 only?? Will it take me as its mommy :>>>🤨😅😅
@@moumou04 yes..and it will follow you anywhere you go.. like human child, you need to stay with it all the time
@@moumou04 don't do this though, ducks are social animals and need other ducks to be healthy

Good for you Henry it obvious your heart is in the right place.
Henry, you have a heart of gold. Well done man!
I love the thought and effort you put into this and consideration for the little duckies
You did a really good job!
Thank you so much!
I learned the best way to cook rice from you and now watching this. Fantastic, you're cool guy.
Mmm egg and rice
It is a joke
I’m in the process of developing a good habitat for my baby orphan. He’s doing well so far on day two!

I m taking care of 8 ducklings.......
" rotate eggs every hours" wait.. how do i do that when im sleeping? :/
You don’t sleep
you use an incubator that auto rotates them
Covq what if you dont have an incubator
HoneyBee yt dont get eggs than hahha.
bruh! you only rotate them while you are awake
You are this kind animal loving giant who is also a great cook.

I got mine from fish shops(fish for meat). They usually transport them around with ice inside such box.

I got duck feed from my local pet shop. They also eat greens such as lettuce, spinach etc.
Nice one mate :) Something different from you !
You are a saint bro.
i'm getting duck eggs soon and i have one question how do you look after the eggs at night e.g turning them every 1-2 hours
In my case, last I turned was 11pm every night and first thing at 9am in the morning. It won’t do any harm
also how can i look after them when i'm at school?
Mom left her eggs for more than 24 hrs now she has not left them....should give them a chance to come back and finish laying their eggs...today 15 chicks...let nature take its course...hawks took the first batch now the second batch is in my care...they are happy and healthy.
What kind of ducks are they?
I have two pet ducks. They are Pekin ducks, so they are pretty mellow.
love watching your videos man! I'm currently on a quest for finding the best way to make my kebabs. Btw are you originally armenian or what?
+GeronimoBiggles thanks bro! Yes I am Armenian :)
with the light that is a fire risk and i'm doing the same for my eggs is there any other cheap alternatives or is it not that much of a fire risk?
It wouldn’t be a fire risk, it’s very unlikely for a light globe to start a fire. This would be the cheapest form of an incubator
Henrys HowTos thank you 🙏
Nice one.
That is cool of you
We have a duckling with the umbilical cord still attached should we cut it now?
From my understanding it should dry up and detach on it’s own. Refer to forums and I’m sure they would be able to provide more advice
@@HenrysHowTos Thank You, btw the umbilical cord is very thin and is attached to what is now a fleshy goo
Great job

As long as you can control the temperatures, a heat bag might be to hot. In some cases ducks will abandon an egg if they feel it’s not fertilized
@@HenrysHowTos What do you mean by not fertilized?
Bridget Ludlow sometimes an egg isn’t fertilized, it’s just a plain egg. Sometimes a mother will abandon the eggs if she can tell
@@HenrysHowTos How do you know for certain it isn't a fertilized egg? By the way, thank you for this help.
Bridget Ludlow it’s hard to tell until about 15-20 days. You can use a strong torch then to see as I show in my video
Awwwwwww cute 🦆
Cool video
Thank you 🙏
Did the last egg hatch?
Please let me know how are the ducks doing . Pray that all is well with you and the ducks.

great news , I was worry about them . THANKS .
Wat food we can give them
Never put wet ducklings back in their cage because they havent formed their waterproof feathers.
Woooooooaaaaah!!! YOU ARE SOOOO COOL!!!! HERE! TAKE A COOL FACE! 😎
ugh what a hunk
Can you keep them as pets in Aus
+Joel Wu it is dependent on the breed, some you may require a license to keep
I wanted to keep some for free duck eggs but afraid my neighbours might have a problem
lil cuties
there were only 2 ducklings in the video what happened to the others?
Thank you
they are so l😍vely
Good to know your local city Govt allows ducks. Place where I live chickens and ducks are not allowed. Assuming they wont always be inside.
