    That's my Mom, my Dad, and my brother! There are some great stories to be told about the two or three days it took to film that!

      Thanks for remembering him. 👍
      The families of the Andrettis & Unsers were part of the pillers of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. And so were the Bettenhausens though unfortunately not with success. With Gary particulary being mentioned here I thought that there were a few other things to include in respect to Gary Bettenhausen:
      www.hoosierhistorylive.org/mail/2016-04-16.html
      _'Gary Bettenhausen not only is remembered as a fiercely competitive driver, but as a compassionate and valiant one. _*_During the Indy 500 in 1971, he slammed on his brakes and leaped from his still-moving car to help a rival, driver Mike Mosley, who was pinned in a burning car. Gary pulled Mosley from the wreckage.'_*
      Then in 1972, he nearly won the damn thing....
      www.coursehero.com/file/69955977/1972-Indianapolis-500pdf/
      _'Gary Bettenhausen _*_led 138 laps until his car suffered ignition trouble on lap 176,_*_ and he coasted to the pits. Jerry Grant took over the lead, but pitted for a new tire and fuel on lap 188 in teammate Bobby Unser's pit -for which he was later disqualified. Bettenhausen's Penske teammate Mark Donohue won the race, after leading only the final 13 laps. It was owner Roger Penske's first of eighteen Indy 500 victories (as of 2019) and the first victory for a McLaren chassis at Indy. Al Unser Sr.,who won the race in 1970 and 1971, was looking to become the first driver in history to "three-peat" at the Indianapolis 500. He fell short, but his runner-up finish ties for the best three-year span (1st-1st-2nd) in Indy history.'_

    "This is not your father's Oldsmobile" Well it flipped the bird to the older clientele who bought those 88 and 98 sedans. Then with the younger set, that ad campaign made them associate Oldsmobile with "OLD" and their father's car. I can't think of such a horrible ad campaign, or a car brand that fell off a cliff sales wise in the 1990's vs the 1980's.

    Funny commercial esp. since one of the knocks on this car was that it was under powered at 160 hp. That engine sure was durable though.

    • @jiggity76
      @jiggity76 3 роки тому

      Early 89 cars would have the 2.8. Rated at 125-130 HP. The later 89 cars would have the 3.1. Rated at 140 HP. It would be a few years later when the HP was bumped up to 160.

    No commercial can fix an outdated car design.
