This is the best episode you guys have ever done, including the stuff on the AT and PCT... When you edit all the CDT episodes down after you finish you should really try to enter it in the Banff Mountain Film Festival... You guys did great with the AT and PCT, but this time around is something special... I can't wait to see what the Wind River Range and Glacier NP have in store for y'all...

Dixie, this is your most spectacular episode ever. The amazing terrain you crossed (gulp, that knife ridge at 14k!) from the high places to bush whacking, the weather (literally hair raising!), the variety of wildlife (I mean who ever looked DOWN at a mountain goat?); just wow. Even more amazing is how beautifully you photographed it! The drone shots on top of the world were breathtaking. You have outdone your badass self, big time. They give out Emmy's for film work like that.

Ok....now I am totally stressed out watching you two go over the mountain with so much static electricity in the air, even though I know it has a happy ending. Seeing the stress on your face, Dixie, shows just how much you knew it was not the best place to be at that moment. Criminy, but that is a tough trail!

Ah! Aaron! You know the perfect moment to bring in the music. Hearing the emotion in Dixie's voice as she came up to the top and took in that incredible view along with the music you gently added, gave me goosebumps. Those and a great big smile on my face. :-) Absolutely fantastic! Wish I had a big screen to project your work onto. It deserves something much bigger than a mere monitor.

I just did my first 14er last Saturday. I know exactly how you feel at the top. This was with my Boy Scout troop on the High Sierra Trail. It thundered and rained six of eight days on the trip. At the top of Mt Whitney, the boys were so awed that they forgot all the pain and discomfort of the trip that they started planning next summer's trip. Thank you very much for putting out these videos. The quality has gotten more amazing each and every time. Keep hiking and keep smiling.

Gotta say when I seen your hair standing up from the static in the air my stomach dropped and I said out loud "This is really really bad, omg you guys need to get out of there now! That part truly scared me and I was fearing for your safety. Don't scare us like that! Gotta ask what was going thru your guys minds at that point? Thanks for the videos, keep hiking and be safe.

I think I have watched almost all of your AT and PCT videos and without a doubt this was the best one you have done. Those ridge lines you hiked, the static electricity and the encounter with the moose really made me fear for your safety. The moose just kept getting closer. I love your videos Dixie! Years ago, about 35, I lived in Colorado. We hiked a bunch of 14,000 ft peaks including Mt Elbert. Mt Elbert was the only camping trip which was good because we got lost and ended up hiking about 20 miles. I have seen it snow, hail, sleet etc every month of the year even August. I can remember running to get back below the tree line in the hopes of not getting hit by lightning. Your videos take me back and remind me of all the incredible beauty. Thank you! ❤️❤️

So awesome!! I've climbed Greys a half dozen times and 2 things 1) I've never been on the summit with less than 2 dozen people, I can't believe you had the summit to yourself. and 2) a fox ?!?!?!? WOW! How cool. Have been hiking and climbing in Colorado for decades and haven't seen a fox. The goats are there all the time. I love seeing them. Have gotten a bit of stink eye from them, and try to keep my distance. Once a whole herd was snoozing on the summit, with about 30 people.

How awesome! I always wondered how people could hike those ridgelines... It doesn't look like there's enough room for a walking path from pictures, but to see you actually walk it...whoa... The massiveness of those mountains is astounding. Sitting on my porch while it's raining kind of made me feel like I'm right there with you.

The more I watch your videos, the more I am thinking about doing sections of the CDT. Some areas I have not explored in Colorado yet, but it looks very beautiful and challenging. Obviously you are in great shape to truck right up these trails. Strange how these storm clouds like to meet you at the top of the passes. Nice to see you have been running into a lot of moose as well, they are really increasing in numbers here. Massive animals. Great photography and music to go with it.

Thrilled that you continue to stop and are excited by your macro photography. Your images are very good and keep getting better. A couple of shots had me holding my breath for your safety: the log blow down you limboed under, ma and pa moose on your trail, and the times you were in the thunderstorm with your hair catching the static. All the survival manuals were shouting NO NO NO, and you just calmly dealt with each situation.

Spectacular video Dixie and Aaron. I was held spellbound while watching. Your encounter with the mountain goats, the moose (yikes!, ) to the chipmunks, deer, marmots, butterflies and insects is remarkable. How you could find and actually hike the trail in many places is a feat! Wonder if I put out a call for trail maintenance volunteers ahead of you if that would help. Hike on you two and hope you enjoy your 2 zeros. You get extra credit just for getting there!

We love you, Dixie, and want to see you hiking forever. That lightning is no joke though. I've chased some of the baddest storms and tornadoes across Colorado, but seeing your hair stand up and your poles buzz curdled my blood. Several of my colleagues have been struck, and it's not just that it can kill you, but the injuries are horrific too. Like permanent and debilitating neurological damage. I know squat about hiking and have been eating up your videos. But I do know a lot about storms. I'm thinking a zero day or a hike to shelter if storms are in the forecast that morning and you're traversing exposed ridges. Cars are a safe place from lightning if storms start brewing during the day. Maybe sit in one with a trail angel or hitch a ride to town if possible? It's a crap deal if you're already up on the ridge and are surprised by a storm, but the National Weather Service recommends:
Avoid open fields, the top of a hill or a ridge top.
Stay away from tall, isolated trees or other tall objects. If you are in a forest, stay near a lower stand of trees.
If you are in a group, spread out to avoid the current traveling between group members.
If you are camping in an open area, set up camp in a valley, ravine or other low area. Remember, a tent offers NO protection from lighting.
Stay away from water, wet items, such as ropes, and metal objects, such as fences and poles. Water and metal do not attract lightning but they are excellent conductors of electricity. The current from a lightning flash will easily travel for long distances.
The other reason to spread out if in a group, is that if somebody gets struck, the others are less likely get hit by the current as it spreads out across the ground, and they can go for help. One of my storm chasing partners is a lightning researcher and atmospheric scientist. He says if you're caught out in the open and the CGs start coming down (cloud to ground strikes), you have a little better chance standing on one foot. The differential between your feet creates a pathway through your body for the current of an indirect strike as it radiates through the ground. Standing on one foot can lower the chances of the current making it up to your heart. We're always sitting in our cars if there are CGs in the area. And I've heard stuff buzzing before, and man nothing makes me move faster to dive inside that vehicle.

Hey, just wanted to say that you’re vloggs have been an inspiration. I decided a month ago that I would attempt thru hiking the AT and I just came back from a 3 day hike like an hr ago. Greatest decision I ever made. I hiked a total of 25.6 miles in 2 1/2 days and still feel great. I also got an unexpected trail name from a couple of guys that I gave tons of trail magic to. They called me “Time Capsule” bc I’m trying to document and vlogg my experience pretty much for the future and ones that can’t be there. Also went out there to forget the past but that didn’t happen. Something much better happened. I know I rambled on but I’m still feeling the trail lol. Thank you so much for the Vloggs.

Being up on those peaks and faces is absolutely no joke during monsoon season and to actually hear and feel that electricity is insanely scary. Beautiful... but scary. Glad you were able to get through it ok.

WOW 😲 AMAZING scenery and footage! You guys should work for National Geographic with the cinematography of nature that you capture, from the wildlife to the clouds and views. You are a great team and I am glad you made it safely through those sketchy areas! Thank you for capturing this journey and sharing it with us! This is better than any TV show.

Was just hiking Mt. Elbert in June, and this video brings me back there. I love Colorado so much! I am following you to help learn about through-hiking and gradually amassing appropriate gear so my husband and I can give it our first go on perhaps a 3-4 day trip for our first one. I have not been anywhere on the AT, but have been to several areas on the PCT and CDT, and I feel it is really helpful to observe how different the terrain and challenges are, especially after having experienced different terrain and weather on two of the trio and remembering some of what it felt like because it will help me pack the right clothing and gear for the section. Who knows -maybe I will someday get to do one of them in its entirety too? Colorado mountain storms are no joke - hail hurts, the rainstorms are torrential, and the lightning threat is very real. Thanks so much for sharing!

I lived in Colorado for 5 years (stationed at USAF Academy) and one summer we had a hail storm so bad that the snow plows had to plow the 4 inches of hail off the roads. It was crazy and the damage was really bad with mud slides and quite a bit of damage. Thank goodness I had just made a shade cover for my garden the week before and it also protected the plants from all that hail. But all our trees were not so lucky as they lost most of their leaves and our deck furniture was beat up. People lost roofs and vehicles were damaged. Thank goodness you had no mishaps during those storms.

Sunny mornings and afternoon thunderstorms are fairly normal days in mid summer in the Rockies. That moose situation was pretty dangerous. Great determination conquering all your obstacles. Thank you for sharing with us.

The way you guys can hike this terrain while still being able to do such fantastic pphotography and videography and then put an episode together each week is absolutely incredible. I wish I knew what cameras you use for the time lapse and slow motion.

Things seemed different in this one. Different in a good way. The scenery was beyond words, the music was soothing, and your level of happiness was far above normal. This one was special and in a category of it's own. Yeah it was that good.

Well done Dixie and Aaron. How on earth can you top that? Wow is the common theme. I'm so impressed at how you guys capture the moments adding the subtlety of music and aerial footage. Feels like I'm right there with you. Spectacular and keep it coming. 👍

Damn, girl! 14ers, ridges, bushwacking, moose, hail, storms, sleet, winds, dark of night. . . You do live, don't you? And the natural beauty of Colorado to boot, expertly and lovingly captured by superb photography. A glorious journey! Tortoise

WOW. I have to watch this again right now. A couple of times when you stopped to film (and talk to) one of the small critters, I couldn't see what you were filming but I just love how you love all things great and small. What a video! I'm amazed by you.

Colorado has been my favorite state for years. I found it amusing that I sat and watched this video while outside my window is a raging thunderstorm, LOL. I always love the videos that you and Aron produce. I am passionate about nature and all the beauty from the vast view from a mountaintop to the tiniest crawling insect. It has been a joy to watch your videos and see your improvement in making them. Stay safe out there.

I love seeing you so inspired and expressing such love for what you do, honestly it's just so encouraging and refreshing compared to what we see in society these days. We're expected as individuals to work 9-5, go home and repeat that for the rest of our lives but you totally just shoot that idea outta the water lol. It's really opened my eyes. Also i think this might be my favorite ep by far!! The cinematography is on point! Keep up the great work!!

I just want to thank you for sharing your journeys with us. You, along with Darwin and several other through hikers have been a huge inspiration to me. I will be starting my first through hike on the 25th of this month; The Tahoe Rim Trail, and I want to thank you again. I'll celebrate my 74th birthday the day I finish it. Hike on.

Breathtaking views, awsome creatures' encouters, and WOW I see you've even met Gillian Larson - another inspiring explorer - and one of her horses(I can't tell it's Shyla or Takoda...) but WHAT A TWISTED TREE on the right! :D
    HAPPY TRAILS!
P.s. Dixie, props to Aaron for editing and to you both for filming(as always)!
However I have to say I liked PCT materials a little more, cause they were somehow more "linear" in terms of storry telling(if You know what I mean), so I didn't need to puzzle over which event was before, which was after and where it happened. But maybe, how you put it together now, is a "concious measure" ;) and I understand that.

Oh my goodness my heart's in my mouth watching you set off along that ridge line. Hairy stuff. You must be tall, too! We have big feet to stop us falling flat on our faces, right? I also wear a men's us11 normally but had to go to 12 in the lonepeaks. I think it's funny when shop assistants direct me to the women's shoe section and I just chuckle and say, 'yeah if only!' :) Happy travels Dixie.

The quality of picture and video people are able to capture now is amazing. The accessibility of those products and these places allows them to be put together by regular people. Don't get me wrong, BBC earth documentaries are very cool. But they have a purpose of educating people who are probably already interested in nature and exploring it physically or intellectually. Your videos, whether you mean them to or not, capture the imagination on a more emotional level. They are fun to see and inspire people, I think, to take advantage of what is around and available to them. Thanks for sharing your journey!
