This is the best episode you guys have ever done, including the stuff on the AT and PCT... When you edit all the CDT episodes down after you finish you should really try to enter it in the Banff Mountain Film Festival... You guys did great with the AT and PCT, but this time around is something special... I can't wait to see what the Wind River Range and Glacier NP have in store for y'all...
Dixie, this is your most spectacular episode ever. The amazing terrain you crossed (gulp, that knife ridge at 14k!) from the high places to bush whacking, the weather (literally hair raising!), the variety of wildlife (I mean who ever looked DOWN at a mountain goat?); just wow. Even more amazing is how beautifully you photographed it! The drone shots on top of the world were breathtaking. You have outdone your badass self, big time. They give out Emmy's for film work like that.
Ah! Aaron! You know the perfect moment to bring in the music. Hearing the emotion in Dixie's voice as she came up to the top and took in that incredible view along with the music you gently added, gave me goosebumps. Those and a great big smile on my face. :-) Absolutely fantastic! Wish I had a big screen to project your work onto. It deserves something much bigger than a mere monitor.
Ok....now I am totally stressed out watching you two go over the mountain with so much static electricity in the air, even though I know it has a happy ending. Seeing the stress on your face, Dixie, shows just how much you knew it was not the best place to be at that moment. Criminy, but that is a tough trail!
Watching this over morning coffee in The Netherlands (like, the flattest country in the world). I really loved seeing those impressive mountains! Great start to my morning, so you're definitely doing a wonderful thing for people who are not - or won't ever be? - on the trail. Thanks, Dixie, and happy trails!
Holy Cow! The knife edge trail, the static crackling, and the changing weather the bull moose (I hear the heavy breathing from adrenaline). You guys are brave, lucky and blessed. I’m both jealous and terrified for you. Most amazing trail video I’ve ever seen. Most amazing photography.
This episode was just gorgeous - I agree with others, this could be part of a documentary. Beautiful scenery and wildlife! Thank you for sharing your journey!
I just did my first 14er last Saturday. I know exactly how you feel at the top. This was with my Boy Scout troop on the High Sierra Trail. It thundered and rained six of eight days on the trip. At the top of Mt Whitney, the boys were so awed that they forgot all the pain and discomfort of the trip that they started planning next summer's trip. Thank you very much for putting out these videos. The quality has gotten more amazing each and every time. Keep hiking and keep smiling.
You are AWESOME! It seems like a lifetime ago I stated following you on your first day of the AT but I am so thankful you share your adventures. I can’t say thank you enough. God bless.
I think I have watched almost all of your AT and PCT videos and without a doubt this was the best one you have done. Those ridge lines you hiked, the static electricity and the encounter with the moose really made me fear for your safety. The moose just kept getting closer. I am pretty sure I would need a change of pants after he walked off. Thanks for allowing us arm-chair watchers to share in the beauty of your experiences. Be safe.
The photography just keeps getting even more amazing! And so do the challenges you're dealing with. Both are equally impressive...Keep on going you guys, you're doing AMAZING!
Holy cow !! Dixie you are one brave lady. I have seen you do some amazing things but climbing on the knife edge of a mountain and walking in a thunderstorm are by far the most dangerous things you have done. Thank you for taking the time to film the beautiful scenery along your way. You are truly amazing. Keep hiking and filming.
I love your videos Dixie! Years ago, about 35, I lived in Colorado. We hiked a bunch of 14,000 ft peaks including Mt Elbert. Mt Elbert was the only camping trip which was good because we got lost and ended up hiking about 20 miles. I have seen it snow, hail, sleet etc every month of the year even August. I can remember running to get back below the tree line in the hopes of not getting hit by lightning. Your videos take me back and remind me of all the incredible beauty. Thank you! ❤️❤️
I'm not sure how I got here, but this is the best gift the UA-cam algorithm has ever given me. Thank you for showing me beauty that my disabilities conspired to hide from me forever. Some people think that technology divides us and diminishes our humanity, but I think it also reflects the best that's in us and forges new connections to each other and to our world. While my world has physically shrunk, paradoxically I can live larger than ever, thanks to people like you and Aaron. What a miracle!
Wow! WoW! WOW! I want to know what kind of good luck charm you have with you Dixie. Despite the harrowing weather circumstances ya'll made it safely. I have to admit I was worried when your hair started standing up. The scenery you are sharing with us is awe inspiring in itself, but your encounters with the wildlife are spectacular. Loved the drone footage and the time lapse night sky. There is just so much packed into this video! Each one keeps getting better and better. It makes me wonder what we are in for as you travel northward. We as subscribers are truly blessed that you and Aaron are sharing your adventure with us all. I think I speak for all when I say, thank you thank you thank you! You received many rewards for you toils in this one....but you sure didn't deserve all of those blowdowns. Be safe, enjoy every moment and bless you!
Gray's and Torrey's were my first 14ers and the hike from Berthoud to Flora was my first taste of CDT - lightning, rain and sleet as well. Colorado's high mtns always deliver an amazing experience. So amazing all the flora and fauna and weather you'all are documenting.
Totally awesome video! Amazing scenery, animal encounters, and storms. I showed this video to my 3 grandsons ages 7, 9, and 11 and explained about the static and the danger of lightning. We also had a good talk about hypothermia and what you was doing that avoided that problem. I have had 2 back surgeries and cannot do what you are doing but sharing your experiences with us is the next best thing. Thank you!!!
Perfect! I live in Colorado, and you have captured it so beautifully. Even though I get to see and experience some of this, in real life, I am so happy to follow along and see what you are seeing, learning and growing, along with you guys. Thanks for documenting this, for all of us!
I’m one of those people that would never get to see it otherwise so I’m very grateful to you and Aaron for these incredible videos! Lunch hour is over, back to the cubical, but my day is better now after seeing gorgeous views, critters, and that moose. Y’all stay safe
Thrilled that you continue to stop and are excited by your macro photography. Your images are very good and keep getting better. A couple of shots had me holding my breath for your safety: the log blow down you limboed under, ma and pa moose on your trail, and the times you were in the thunderstorm with your hair catching the static. All the survival manuals were shouting NO NO NO, and you just calmly dealt with each situation.
Everyone asked me that same question about filming my hike. It made me stay more present in the moment because I was always looking for something to film. I didn't include a lot of the shots I did film, but it definitely had positive effects on my journey.
The more I watch your videos, the more I am thinking about doing sections of the CDT. Some areas I have not explored in Colorado yet, but it looks very beautiful and challenging. Obviously you are in great shape to truck right up these trails. Strange how these storm clouds like to meet you at the top of the passes. Nice to see you have been running into a lot of moose as well, they are really increasing in numbers here. Massive animals. Great photography and music to go with it.
Y'all are very lucky. "Signs of imminent lightning: hair standing up, cracking/static sounds from the air, skin tingling, light metal objects (cams, biners, ice axe) or your rope vibrating." Climbing has an excellent article from 2014: "Learn This: Laws of Lightning"
Love, love, ❤️ love the close-ups! And the stove was beyond cool! Have never seen anything like that! .......sigh.......I love Wednesdays. Thanks, Dixie and Aaron!
This was riveting. And beautiful. I enjoyed the longer format, it made it a little bit more special, like a movie I guess. Did I say that it was beautiful? Too hard to pick a highlight, it was absolutely jam packed, I can't believe that there's been only 150k views (early 2022). Thanks Dixie and Aaron 🙏
By far, the best episode yet. Thank you for the beautiful photography and narration. It lets those of us who can’t be there, experience some of the beauty with our eyes
Greys (and Torreys) were my first fourteeners 32 years ago. Wow, those views are amazing! A storm moved in when we were almost at the top and didn’t dawdle to fully appreciate them. Love this series of videos, and you are fearless.
Wow! This video is my favorite thus far. The cinematography is as good as any professional nature documentary I've seen. The two of you are amazing! You explained it so well Dixie. Please take all the time you need to get show motion shots and document the wildlife. It adds so much for all of us who can't be there to see if for ourselves.
Epic! I dont even know what to say except Thanks, because your exactly right about doing this for folks that may not be able to see it otherwise. You must have the strongest ankles in the world! Oh, and that shot of the stars...wow...Peace, Wheelchair John in Idaho :) yep, since the AT :)
How awesome! I always wondered how people could hike those ridgelines... It doesn't look like there's enough room for a walking path from pictures, but to see you actually walk it...whoa... The massiveness of those mountains is astounding. Sitting on my porch while it's raining kind of made me feel like I'm right there with you.
Wow. Just wow! Excellent, beautifully captured video. Maybe the CO board of tourism should be sent this. That ridge hike and your staticy hair were super scary though. The wildlife and wildflowers! My heavens!
I have discovered this passion of mine to go on a backpacking trip. I found your channel a few days ago. I binged watched your CDT journey and have been hooked since your first episode! You are such an inspiration. Thank you for documenting your journey! It’s pushing me to get into backpacking shape. I’m hoping to do a trip next summer
Colorado has been my favorite state for years. I found it amusing that I sat and watched this video while outside my window is a raging thunderstorm, LOL. I always love the videos that you and Aron produce. I am passionate about nature and all the beauty from the vast view from a mountaintop to the tiniest crawling insect. It has been a joy to watch your videos and see your improvement in making them. Stay safe out there.
Well done Dixie and Aaron. How on earth can you top that? Wow is the common theme. I'm so impressed at how you guys capture the moments adding the subtlety of music and aerial footage. Feels like I'm right there with you. Spectacular and keep it coming. 👍
This is my favorite episode of yours, so far. I found your channel probably two weeks ago, and have watched probably 12 to 14 of your videos. I'm glad I found this one early on.
OUTSTANDING VIDEO!!! Loved it all!! You are in my back yard,,it;s a play day every day on trail!! "Just follow the creek and not get lost" she says through 6ft, willows and scrub oak,(Dixie is barely over 5ft, tall),,top of Berthoud ,static storm,,did you notice your pole was glowing??...at altitude, snow pellet/sleeting can be a daily occurrence, generally short lived...The animals are awesome, but Dixie is the true beast of this hike,,,mama bear says to baby bear cub,It's Dixie GET OUT OF HER WAY!! Hey moose MOVE ON!! Wow, so intense!!....Got to get hold of a good writer "Hail on your britches" has got to be a #1 some day!!.... Loved this video!!! Thank you Dixie and Aaron....Stay Safe and God Bless....
Seen every episode of your various thru hike adventures since the AT. I must say I appreciate the hard work you put in and carrying a drone with you. Your video quality/editing went from basic to almost professional. Got boosebumps when you peaked that 14'er, keep on trekking.
Dixie, you just keep on making my day! I had to wait to watch this one so I could actually pay attention to it, and I'm so glad I did! It was utterly breathtaking! As always, I love your commentary and seeing new places through your eyes. I can't wait until you get to Glacier National Park because that's one of my favorite places on the planet. I feel like it changed my soul. I'm sure you're feeling that every day that you're hiking. Praying for you, Aaron and Perk. Happy trails!
Been waiting all day for this one, and it is so well worth the wait!!! That positive streamer that had your hair standing on end was scary as all get out just to watch, much less be in the middle of. Hopefully no more of those. Love the mountain goats and the Grays Peak summit was absolutely stunning, physically for you, exciting as hell for this arm chair (for the time being) hiker!!! Another great video for sure!!!! Well done, the drone footage is incredible as well - big props to Aaron for taking the extra time to put this together!
So awesome!! I've climbed Greys a half dozen times and 2 things 1) I've never been on the summit with less than 2 dozen people, I can't believe you had the summit to yourself. and 2) a fox ?!?!?!? WOW! How cool. Have been hiking and climbing in Colorado for decades and haven't seen a fox. The goats are there all the time. I love seeing them. Have gotten a bit of stink eye from them, and try to keep my distance. Once a whole herd was snoozing on the summit, with about 30 people.
i await your videos each and every week...they just are awesome sauce and keep me going this summer through some bad moments ....THANK YOU Dixie! More than you know.
Best episode yet! I live in the central mountains of Colorado and you are doing awesome. It is very hard to be above tree line during a storm (and really scary). Way to go, I love your positive attitude no matter what is happening.
Loved this! You made me tear (cry). You made me laugh. You made me worry. Your mom and family watching this, have to be ecstatic! Can’t wait for you to get to MY state... Montana!
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are so gifted at what you do. Love................... the videos. The longer the better. Thanks so much for the hard work that you do to allow us to 'hike' with you. God bless you Ms Dixie. Safe hiking. Can't wait to hear what you think about the Winds. Hiked there many times. Don't miss Titcomb Basin if you can.
Another great video! Gotta say when I seen your hair standing up from the static in the air my stomach dropped and I said out loud "This is really really bad, omg you guys need to get out of there now! That part truly scared me and I was fearing for your safety. Don't scare us like that! Gotta ask what was going thru your guys minds at that point? Thanks for the videos, keep hiking and be safe.
Spectacular video Dixie and Aaron. I was held spellbound while watching. Your encounter with the mountain goats, the moose (yikes!, ) to the chipmunks, deer, marmots, butterflies and insects is remarkable. How you could find and actually hike the trail in many places is a feat! Wonder if I put out a call for trail maintenance volunteers ahead of you if that would help. Hike on you two and hope you enjoy your 2 zeros. You get extra credit just for getting there!
One of the best yet. I loved the mixed focus shots. Don't know what lense or setting you were using but it was amazing. Thanks guys and I'm glad you are making it through the rough weather / hazards safely.
Hi, I think this is your best yet. Awesome that you have seen so many animals in their environment. The scenery is gorgeous. If that lightning would just stay away. Happy trails.
@@RiDankulous that what I was thinking. I ran into a momma black bear with two Cubs maybe 1 or 2 months old. One of them sat up a stared right at me , about 40 feet away. He was probalaly asking mom what is that.
WOW. I have to watch this again right now. A couple of times when you stopped to film (and talk to) one of the small critters, I couldn't see what you were filming but I just love how you love all things great and small. What a video! I'm amazed by you.
I think this is the best video you have ever done. The editing was amazing. The pictures were just incredible, and your story can’t ever be beat. You’re just the best. Be safe. I’m enjoying your journey. By the way, I attempted Gray’s Peak last weekend. Ugh
Was just hiking Mt. Elbert in June, and this video brings me back there. I love Colorado so much! I am following you to help learn about through-hiking and gradually amassing appropriate gear so my husband and I can give it our first go on perhaps a 3-4 day trip for our first one. I have not been anywhere on the AT, but have been to several areas on the PCT and CDT, and I feel it is really helpful to observe how different the terrain and challenges are, especially after having experienced different terrain and weather on two of the trio and remembering some of what it felt like because it will help me pack the right clothing and gear for the section. Who knows -maybe I will someday get to do one of them in its entirety too? Colorado mountain storms are no joke - hail hurts, the rainstorms are torrential, and the lightning threat is very real. Thanks so much for sharing!
Absolutely beautiful video. As a resident of CO, there's not a day that goes by that I don't appreciate being here. Dixie... Being up on those peaks and faces is absolutely no joke during monsoon season and to actually hear and feel that electricity is insanely scary. Beautiful... but scary. Glad you were able to get through it ok.
Dixie, hiking the AT has been a wish of mine for years I hope to begin my hike in 2020. I found your AT videos and have been watching all your thru hikes since. I am working this summer at Yellowstone National Park (another wish I have always had) in the Old Faithful Upper General Store. Several CDT hikers come thru each day, I hope to see you pass thru!
I love seeing you so inspired and expressing such love for what you do, honestly it's just so encouraging and refreshing compared to what we see in society these days. We're expected as individuals to work 9-5, go home and repeat that for the rest of our lives but you totally just shoot that idea outta the water lol. It's really opened my eyes. Also i think this might be my favorite ep by far!! The cinematography is on point! Keep up the great work!!
I've been following you since your AT hike and, to use your words, this was an amazing video. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. You guys are doing a wonderful job in this endeavor. Until next time....be well.
Grays was my first CO 14er too! So so cool to see you both standing and seeing the same sights I’ve seen. Isn’t it crazy how much wildlife there still is above the tree line? Blew my mind!
Love the drone and gimbal footage! So tough to stop and get great footage when you are exhausted from a long hard slog! That static would have freaked me the heck out! -Shane
The way you guys can hike this terrain while still being able to do such fantastic pphotography and videography and then put an episode together each week is absolutely incredible. I wish I knew what cameras you use for the time lapse and slow motion.
Agree 1000%
I loved the Columbines and so near to Columbine.
Yeah gotta agree - so far her series has been entertaining but this one went above into something truly spectacular
Oh Dixie you are so lucky you didn’t get hit by lightning! Hair standing on end from static electricity is never a good sign! ⚡️
Wow! I’m amazed that you can simultaneously convince me a through hike is a good idea and a bad one at the same time.
J. Jones Haha, it really is!
Ah!
Amen, Karen. IMAX.
Karen W I cry a lot 😂😂
Love that music. Where's it from???
Ok....now I am totally stressed out watching you two go over the mountain with so much static electricity in the air, even though I know it has a happy ending. Seeing the stress on your face, Dixie, shows just how much you knew it was not the best place to be at that moment. Criminy, but that is a tough trail!

Back in the ‘70s when I did parts of this trail all I had what a topo map and compass.
My mouth is still agape from you not running when your hair was full of static. I would have gone full panic. Glad you all are ok!
Just plain spectacular. Dixie you have outdone even yourself. Thank you so much.
I agree with the others.. This is the most stunning video by far in the series. You're photography is impressive. Thanks for taking me along.
Bull moose, far more dangerous on the trail than black bear, your adventures continue to amaze, excellent videography and narration through out.
Ridin' the Storm Out.
I watch a lot of hiker videos and this is the best one I've ever seen. You captured everything so well. Outstanding!
You are AWESOME! It seems like a lifetime ago I stated following you on your first day of the AT but I am so thankful you share your adventures. I can’t say thank you enough. God bless.
Awesome images. Beautifully edited. This is my all time favorite video ... since the last one. :)
LOL! I know what you mean. But this one was truly amazing.
As ice listen to your monologue and watch the video near the end I found myself getting teary-eyed. It's really move me
I think I have watched almost all of your AT and PCT videos and without a doubt this was the best one you have done. The photography just keeps getting even more amazing! And so do the challenges you're dealing with. Both are equally impressive...Keep on going you guys, you're doing AMAZING!
I could hear hear a heartbeat in your breath when you were dancing with the moose. And the thunder...awesome!
Holy cow !! Dixie you are one brave lady. I have seen you do some amazing things but climbing on the knife edge of a mountain and walking in a thunderstorm are by far the most dangerous things you have done. OMG this has got to be one of your best yet. All I could say was WOW... WOW... WOW... every 5 minutes!! And another WOW!
You are some tough in spirit, yet so tender in heart for the little creatures who cross your path. Thanks for taking me along.
Totally awesome video! Amazing scenery, animal encounters, and storms. I showed this video to my 3 grandsons ages 7, 9, and 11 and explained about the static and the danger of lightning. What a treat Jess!!! 🙏🏻💜 38 minutes of epic trail awesomeness!! Can’t thank you enough!! So appreciate your efforts! Both of you xx

Climbing has an excellent article from 2014: "Learn This: Laws of Lightning"
Nero Wolfe Is that article online somewhere, or do we have to hunt down a hard copy?
It is an article from the outdoor magazine "Climbing" that is available online to read.

So scary....
Agreed.
Thanks for the link!
It enhances all of our journeys, thank you for sharing. This is one of my favorite episodes!

Hi john from Dave, W4gsm, yes she is a master at so many things. 73s
Grays was my first 14er! Beautiful hike. Awesome to see it filmed so well. Keep on keepin on!
You've done made me speechless with this video, Miss Dixie. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, you come up with an even better video.
How awesome! I always wondered how people could hike those ridgelines... It doesn't look like there's enough room for a walking path from pictures, but to see you actually walk it...whoa... Oh, those mountains!
Electricity buzz and haircut were something special.
At 17:22 your facial expression reminded me of David Attenborough :D
your best yet! I really enjoy seeing the beauty that I could never experience in person. Be safe, and thank you.
This is my favorite episode of yours, so far. I found your channel probably two weeks ago, and have watched probably 12 to 14 of your videos. I'm glad I found this one early on.
Spectacular! Beautiful mountains - and mountain goats to boot 🐐 🐐 🐐
Augu3st Thank you so much!
You had me on the edge of my seat... glad you guys were safe. I love Colorado!
Whew a 14ner, takes your breath away gorgeous Jess! Thx for bringin’ us along❤️
Colorado looks amazing! Thank you for taking us along, you badass woman!
Loved this! You made me tear (cry). You made me laugh. You made me worry. Your mom and family watching this, have to be ecstatic! Can’t wait for you to get to MY state... Montana!
So beautiful, thank you for taking us along the way. I also love taking pictures of nature during my trail runs. ❤️
I've been catching up on your CDT videos the past couple days and I just have to say Thank You! Your energy is so refreshing.
That goateed moose! Those friendly goats!
Yeh, I wanted to say the same thing...My thoughts exactly..
@@RiDankulous that what I was thinking.
I ran into a momma black bear with two Cubs maybe 1 or 2 months old. One of them sat up a stared right at me , about 40 feet away. He was probalaly asking mom what is that.
Wow! The footage from the top of the 14er was fantastic. Keep up the hard work and be safe. You guys are an inspiration.
Hi Dixie, This video has made my week and it makes me itch to get out into nature. All the best for the rest of the trail. Graeme
WOW. I have to watch this again right now. A couple of times when you stopped to film (and talk to) one of the small critters, I couldn't see what you were filming but I just love how you love all things great and small. What a video! I'm amazed by you.
Wow, best video yet! Such amazing footage. That moose was gorgeous and got so close to you he just didn’t care! And your poles buzzing was terrifying!
It doesn't get much better than this. Superb.
Love your adventure. Photography is getting better and better. Been following since PCT. Best wishes
Stunning absolutely stunning!!! So love your videos. 😀👍❤
It's great how you (plural) captured the very essence of the wilderness. And what a sense of humor...serial killer costume.
I am so amazed how well you keep your cool. Mountain lions and male moose!!! My heart was starting to race just watching the moose move towards you.
You are amazing. I was so looking forward to this part of your journey. Couldn’t wait. Exceeded every hope and expectation.
That was amazing!!!! Beauty, danger, drama! I'm in awe of your and Aaron's perseverance. Y'all be safe out there.
I wish I knew what cameras you use for the time lapse and slow motion.
those are some awesome clouds I don't think I would want to be on the ridge to see them so thank you very much for sharing them Keep On trekking
Wow that was an awesome video you have come along way since that first Appalachian trail video keep on keeping on and be safe thanks for Sharing
Colorado storms are no joke for sure!! Glad you made it safely!! Thanks for sharing!
