You don’t know how much this video brightened my day today. This morning I received the sad news of my Mom passing away in her sleep last night, after a 7 month battle fighting Ovarian Cancer at the age of 75. It has been a very emotional day. I’ve watched your videos since the AT. They are so inspirational. I’m hoping to do a 7 day backcountry hike this Fall.
thanks for all the videos! you inspired me to take my wife and oldest kid to the PCT and spread a little trail magic/trail angel work last weekend. we only met a handful of hikers, but we had a blast :)
I was having one of those days... And I want to say Thank You Dixie for making it so much better. I agree it would be a great world if everyone could be nice to one another. Those people were so awesome!
Your absolutely correct about people on trail. I have had such kindness and help on trail. At the end of my hikes I always stay a few days extra and pay it forward with Trail magic. Pick up hikers and giving them rides. Snacks, water, gatoraid.
I spent all day yesterday looking for this video until about 4 when I realized it was Tuesday. This is the only channel I actually sit around waiting for a new video as opposed to just watching whatever. Love your stuff.
Dixie, every time I get to see you cuddle someone's dog in your thru hike vlogs, it makes my heart so happy. I travel a lot and love the adventure but I always do miss cuddling with my own hound dog at home. So I know how great it feels to get to spend a few minutes cuddling the absolute crap out of someone else's pup haha.
Dixie! I love your adventures! You make wanna go out and move foward. Thanks to your videos I mastered up the courage to change my career and do what moves me. Lots of love from Argentina!
I loved how you made friends with the springer spaniel. The trail magic was magnificent !! And WOW !!! 300K subscribers You better just keep on hiking, girl !!!
Just subbed to your channel. I came across your videos researching preparations for the AT. I'm in Massachusetts and hike Greylock regularly and fell in love with the idea of through hiking. Hoping to be prepared for next year. Anyway, I'm currently binging on your videos and I'm truly enjoying watching your experiences. The lightning storms you've been exposed to are insane! I think I'd need a cathole in my tent! Ha! You inspired me to make sure this happens Dixie! Are you considering hiking abroad? Happy hiking!
thanks Dixie , just came home from a hot day of construction work tuned in to watch your latest. The generosity of those guys and your happiness, the blue sky over your shoulder . What a beautiful world.
It's been an absolute pleasure to watch you grow and overcome challenges since you started your journey on the Appalachian trail. I've been following you since you had 3900 subscribers. You are an inspiration to us all. I'm thru hiking the PCT in 2019 and hope to accomplish the whole trail. Hope to run into you someday. Happy trails!
Awww that puppy love looked looovely!! :) But even better, all those kind people. I think I need to try a bit harder to be the change I want to see in the world.
Another fab vlog. Love seeing all the kind folk providing the trail magic. 100% also wish people would be kind to each other all the time. Happy hiking 😊
Another great video. Thanks Dixie and Aaron! The CDT has got to be the best of the big three. Such dramatic beauty even in the "desolate" areas. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Stay safe, keep on truckin and have fun.
It's very uplifting to see your smiling face everyday. I will miss you when you finish this trail. Hoping you will continue to do videos afterwards. Make it a great day.
It almost made me cry seeing all of those amazing people! Really makes you regain faith in humanity. Just beautiful! Keep on truckin' Dixie, you got this :)
I know this was a year ago, but I’m just finding you. I love your words of wisdom. With everything going on in the Country, it’s humbling to see the kindness of humanity in your videos. So thank you for that. God Bless!
i felt the nice from here! *teary. So enjoy your hikin talkin and how you handle getting a hitch and the weather. All the best, Dixie. Look forward to your vids...hike on!
We always stay in Rawlins on our way through from Texas to Jackson Hole. I have pictures of the deer pals we met there. The wildlife seems to love Wyoming like we do! I wish I were there hiking with y'all. Thanks for the weekly dose of uplifting wisdom!
You’re a very kind soul to both people and animals. After watching a few of your episodes I now find myself thinking twice about squashing a bug that crosses my path where before it wasn’t a problem. “It’s free to be nice”
Awesome to see and hear of all the people that help out. Between watching your videos and some AT hikers I am following, gives you hope. Another great video! Lighting was crazy though!
Thank you for highlighting the nature of our state. I have never met more friendly and helpful people than in Wyoming...I think its because it still has that front-porch, family, neighbor-helping-neighbor attitude and there are so few of us here that we want to be there for each other. People here will give you the shirt off their back if you need it.
1 PM thunderstorms are typical in that region, I remember they were to be reckoned with almost every day in RMNP when I used to frequent those parts back in the 80s/early 90s
As a hiker myself all my life in the Olympic Mountains i can relate to a lot of what you say and the hardships you go through on the trail (Blowdowns , Wildfires, Bridges washed out )..Cell phones i have never carried on the trail as they were not really out on the market .. All my adventures i captured on 35mm film.. 18 years ago i bought the first digital camera to take along with me.. But i still like and enjoy my 35mm cameras (heavy ) but i still pack one when i go .. Now i'm 73 so i go slower than i used to and pack lighter weight packs ... I really enjoy your adventures and i'am proud of you for all the wonderful country you have hike through..good for you , don't stop..
Cool - you got your dog fix and later ice cream! Ice cream is the first thing I wanted when I got into Red's from the JMT -- and there was a Ben & Jerry's right by the bus stop. Great that you can do this long mileage days when you are stuck on a road walk.
Followed you on all your hikes! THANK YOU! At my age and medical conditions I am not able to do thru hikes I even had to give up hiking but I can live the experience thru your videos! You are mu favorite youtuber blogger! Be safe and God Bless
Dixie, you need to make shirts that read, "It's free to be nice" (or "Cause it's free to be nice") Great video, loved all the construction worker trail magic and the surprise ice cream !!!! toooo cool!!!!
Dixie, just wanted to say that I love watching your videos! They always put a smile on my face :) I'm living vicariously through you at the moment, haha. Stay safe and happy trails!
What a wonderful stretch with all the trail magic and awesome scenery. Even the lightning was spectacular! Very glad it never struck near either of you :)
That was a pretty good episode, not really scenic but got to see some of my one time home, Wyoming, and it’s good to know there are folks out there that are treating you decently. I know you’re probably in Idaho by now or close any way. I’m interested to see and hear your reaction to that part of the trail. No bears yet? I do hope you get to see one, from a safe distance. Safe Travels and Happy Trails!
Hi Dixie. Glad to see you are enjoying the Wyoming section. I am down the Savery Creek rd quite abit and normally, there are very few people along that stretch of road... I left some water along the trail for hikers where it crosses a cattle guard when you first come to Savery Creek Rd. Not sure if its still there but hopefully someone made use of it. Happy hiking! Looking forward to seeing you go thru the Wind Rivers! Lots of elbow room in WY.
Hi Dixie -- You inspired me to be a trail angel, by volunteering for a work crew that is going to clear brush from a portion of the Arizona Trail in the Mazatzal Wilderness, the first few days of November. We'll take a day to backpack to the work site, two days to clear trail, and a day to hike out again. Hope you'll decide to do our AZTrail one day soon -- only 800 or so miles! lol
With all this cowboy camping you may be interested in a Hilleberg Bivanorak. You can use it as a full body rain / bug cover as well as a bivy. Just go full turtle mode and seal her up.
Here in Alaska we have been having bad beetle kill of our spruce too. In the spring we cut down 12 spruce that were dead. But throughout the summer another dozen or so have died as well. Work for next spring when the woodshed is more empty. Great video.
Just read that one is better off upright, on two feet in lightning storm, due to least contact with ground. Lying down, is irrelevantly more distant from the arc. I had a Sierra, pm storm pass across valleys below, exploding trees as it approached our ridge. We huddled under biggest tree line tree we could find, and realized it was a target and decided to just hike through. At one point, as I glanced at a rock out cropping along the trail, it took a hit and shattered out, right over my head. Of course Muir liked to climb to the highest tree, to absorb as much energy as possible!
Dixie, one trip through Wyoming, we had the same, along with a tornado. Yes, we're familiar with those in Alabama, but it's a little different there. We were traveling perpendicular to the storm, so it really wasn't that bad. Press on!
Another great video Dixie. Glad to see you hopeing for the best, but being prepared for the worst, whether it be hitching or avoiding lightning. Hope the awesome trail magic continues for you. looks like you need to pick up another umbrella. Best wishes and thank you for the insight and adventure!
Those angels are awesome! I was in the Winds this past Thur-Sat and hoped I’d run into you as I visited the Cirque of the Towers. I carried a small bag of Salt and Vinegar Kettle Cooked chips in anticipation of seeing you. I was bummed that I didn’t but am glad to see you well taken care of. Safe journey to you and all other hikers out there.
Dixie & Erin, on your journey into Wyoming... You were 11 miles from my old home in Colorado, outside of Encampment, Wyoming! If I had still been there ya'll would've had a stop over! At Big Creek, Co.!☯
Wyoming gets crazy weather...including hail with the rain ... it can snow two feet over night with hurricane winds and the next day the sun will come out and melt all the snow. Nice video!
Dixie your just a gem. I really enjoy your vids. And can see your kind respect for people. In the south, we call them. Manners and some good southern values. I really hope you keep going after your triple crown. Whatever it might be. I'm very envious of your life and your freedom. 😊
WOW! Got lot's to drink on that stretch! Only thing is I am sure you had to stop to Pee a lot. lol GREAT video and I am ready for next weeks already! I would LOVE to visit Whyoming!
"It's free to be nice." Thanks for that important message, Dixie.
You don’t know how much this video brightened my day today. In this episode: Dixie reads some hieroglyphics; Dixie prepares to shiv someone; and Dixie develops a drinking problem.
i love it
Lol 😂😂
😂😂😂
Hilarious! Summed up perfectly!
You forgot the part where the rain made them both too tense when cowboy camping !
Always feel good after watching a Homemade Wanderlust video.
So very true.
Wyoming and Montana are chock full of nice people like that!
The end of this video had me in tears, just seeing how kind and amazing humans can be! Their love gives me hope❤️
thanks for all the videos! you inspired me to take my wife and oldest kid to the PCT and spread a little trail magic/trail angel work last weekend. we only met a handful of hikers, but we had a blast :)
Paul Hailey Yayy! That’s wonderful. From my fellow hikers-thank you so much! Glad y’all had fun :)
I was having one of those days... And I want to say Thank You Dixie for making it so much better. I agree it would be a great world if everyone could be nice to one another. Those people were so awesome!

GO DIXIE GO!
Thanks to all the people and trail angels who help the hikers.

Always keep your Dixie well watered.... Lots of free nice out there. Just gotta get up and go find it.
Another fab vlog. Love seeing all the kind folk providing the trail magic. 100% also wish people would be kind to each other all the time. Happy hiking 😊
Awww! That dog licking your face and snuggling with you - so sweet!
Dixie, you are such a verrry good Trail-Professor!!
So cool to see you walking through some of the pastures that I ride through everyday!
„Its free to be nice“ 😍👍🏼 so true!!!! Thanks for sharing your journey!!!!
Another great video. Thanks Dixie and Aaron! The CDT has got to be the best of the big three. Such dramatic beauty even in the "desolate" areas. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Stay safe, keep on truckin and have fun.
Reminds me of my summer camping across Wyoming. Will check back for Yellowstone. The lightning never goes away.
It's very uplifting to see your smiling face everyday. I will miss you when you finish this trail. Hoping you will continue to do videos afterwards. Make it a great day.
Dogs...aren't they just the best?! Dixie thank you again for bringing us along...
Mike's Hike it probably makes her miss her fur babies.
So this was 100% good company when hitching a ride! 😊🐕
That was quite the day in Wyoming. Thank you for sharing Dixie! May the adventure and magic continue to exceed your expectations!
It almost made me cry seeing all of those amazing people! Really makes you regain faith in humanity. Just beautiful! Keep on truckin' Dixie, you got this :)
Great video! Fun to see all the kind people! Glad you were safe from lightning. Very smart to stop and wait. A pretty rainbow.
Have a great hike.
You are almost there Dixie, keep going! It is great to share in this journey with you. :)

Okay, you just really reassured me, I was thinking that I might be going a little overboard in wanting a neck knife for thruhiking!
I just love your videos. Watched you blaze thru the PCT and now the CDT. I pray you continue to enjoy the journey and look forward to future videos.
We always stay in Rawlins on our way through from Texas to Jackson Hole. I have pictures of the deer pals we met there. The wildlife seems to love Wyoming like we do! I wish I were there hiking with y'all. Thanks for the weekly dose of uplifting wisdom!

I have a question. I see you have your neck knife. Have you ever had to refuse a hitch because you felt uncomfortable? Enjoying watching your hikes.
Most livestock lightning strikes are from them being under trees or leaning against fencing. Neither of which are where you were in that storm.
Just read that one is better off upright, on two feet in lightning storm, due to least contact with ground. Lying down, is irrelevantly more distant from the arc. I had a Sierra, pm storm pass across valleys below, exploding trees as it approached our ridge. Lots of thunderstorms in MT as well - stay safe and enjoy it - some of the best mountains are yet to come!
Dixie's Words of Wisdom:
". . . the hikers have just lost their minds -- just out of their gourds."
“It’s free to be nice” best quote of the day....thanks Dixie 🖖

You really are hardcore💪.... Cheers from Switzerland! (I love your episodesl👍🏻)

Wow!!! You are an amazing video maker! Well done. I hope to learn from you and when I do the AT maybe I can create one.
That's what I always wondered. About the cows.. haha.. Had a storm right over me the other day in Oregon got me wondering. Love your content!
After you do your triple crown, you have to hike the SHT in Minnesota!
Dixie & Erin, on your journey into Wyoming... You were 11 miles from my old home in Colorado, outside of Encampment, Wyoming! If I had still been there ya'll would've had a stop over! At Big Creek, Co.!☯
Storms like these are majestic and powerful! WOW!! (And, yes, kinda scary!) ... And I love your ending!
Wyoming gets crazy weather...including hail with the rain ... it can snow two feet over night with hurricane winds and the next day the sun will come out and melt all the snow. Nice video!
Had a brain melting day at work so nice to space out and imagine my hike in a few years.
