Montana stole my heart in 1970. I was born near St. Louis, moved to Montana on to a working cattle ranch, when I was 21. It’s been a love affair ever since. My family couldn’t understand the hold Montana had on me, till they came to visit. I’m glad you got to see her beauty. Thanks for the great videos Dixie! Thanks for sharing Montana! ❤️

Three years later, and this randomly popped up in my feed. Our squirrels in the Rockies are not your Alabama porkies. And I need to make it to the Scapegoat Wilderness in ‘ 22. Thank you so much for your CDT story.

On a side note, I was surprised to see that yurt all locked up......shelter in Montana should never be locked up. But breaking glass to shelter from our wild weather is ok.

Definitely some great landscape views in that area, but this is a time of the year that will definitely test your will (welcome to Canada!). That said, remember: don't quit on a bad day. We've been following you for so long we'd all be bummed out if you had to quit before the end. Then again, we're all going to be a bit sad when you're finished. I have lived in numerous places in MT., and yes, it is gorgeous. My favorite town is Whitefish, but I have never lived there. Just stopped on a train going through. Would love to go back and stay awhile. I lived in the Flathead Lake area, which is also quite amazing. The eastern part of the state though, isn’t my favorite, but talk about wide open spaces! Must be where big sky country came from. Not sure when this was posted, but is it possible you are done? Is there a monument like on the PCT for end of trail pics?

Ground squirrels are common there. Not tons of trees there. They burrow more like chipmunks or rabbits. Which suits the more extreme weather there too. They do look like a hybrid of a squirrel and a chipmunk which are pretty much cousins of sorts. The tree squirrels have the big tail which helps them balance their body as they climb. The big tail doesn't suit a ground squirrel. But it's interesting to see similar markings of a chipmunk on a squirrel. They are so cute, but are basically cute rats. Lol. But I like the name Chirrel. Sounds like churl.....so does that make them churlish? Haha. Enjoying your adventures. Montana is stunning. Thanks for posting.
