Really happy with the lineup, even tho I think I can only pick out 8/9 bands I definitely want to see. You said yourself a single gig can be over £100. So 4 days for the £268 I paid (whilst leaving Donington last year) is amazing. With over 150 bands likely, I'm not that bothered about 2x Metallica 🤷♂️. Last year I didn't watch all of Kiss, or even all of Iron Maiden. I don't think the headliner makes or breaks the festival.
This is my first download festival and honestly im loving this line up because it's my first ever festival/concert so I haven't heard any of the bands live
Metallica first time since 2012, BMTH first time since 2014, Evanescence first time since 2007, Pendulum first time since 2011, Ghost & Architects first time since 2013, Distillers first time since 2004, Placebo first time ever, most of the undercard has never played before either, okay you don't have to like any of these bands but you can't really say "oh it's just the same as every other year". I too would've rather had someone else over two Metallica sets but they can only book who's willing to play, personally, I haven't seen Metallica since 2012 so quite excited to see them twice. I agree BMTH should have headlined years ago, better late than never though, first time a British metal band has worked their way up to Download headliner, I think that's a great way to celebrate 20 years but each to their own I suppose. I get it's annoying when you don't like the lineup, that's how I've felt with half the classic rock bands they've had on in recent years, I am biased but I'm quite happy the tables have turned haha. Do hope there's some more stuff for you in the next announcements tho, and give Pupil Slicer a listen if you like heavier stuff, great band
Just saying, the reason the festival is 4 days is because Metallica are wanting to be booked twice for festival appearances far as I’m aware. So if Metallica weren’t playing, it’d just be Friday to Sunday as normal.
@@MetalManny think it’s more of a “trust me bro” sort of thing. Pretty sure the people who said who’d got leaks about a load of bands and the headliners on Reddit had said that was the case with Metallica
I'm doing my uni assignment on the problems with Download and just stumbled upon this video. I've never been to the festival myself but multiple members of my family have - my dad and aunt were even involved in the crush at Monsters of Rock. I would love to reference you in my report for additional opinions if that's okay with you :D
I'm not saying this lineup is great but last year all 3 headliners I would not have cared about and there was only like 3 smaller bands I was interested in. There's more I would actually want to see this year.
Watching this again just because I'm looking forward to Download, I do pretty much agree with you. I don't mind a handful of the bands but the only ones I'm really excited for are Behemoth, Ingested (Though I'll already be seeing them a couple months before), Carcass, Pupil Slicer, Undeath and maybe Ghost and Municipal Waste. The rest? I could give or take. I think they're just wanting to cater to the metalcore, punk-ey crowd because there's just a lot more of them than there are people like us who like heavier stuff, especially with the younger generations. I didn't go last year but I'm pissed that I missed Dying Fetus.. fukin love Fetus. I wouldn't mind seeing the other stuff though, I haven't been to as many concerts as I wish I had.

Hahaha watching this many months on, is really funny. Fastest selling Download Ever. There is always someone having a hissy about a line up and this one has proven to be the most popular ever. The BIG question is..... Did you buy a ticket and are you going? Maiden? Last years Headliner 2 in a row would have been okay? LOL. I am a huge Metallica fan and if i had a choice, it would be 4 diff headliners, BUT its only 4 days as they are there, so billy bonus.
Why are BMTH headlining? Because they deserve it and the new music is better than the old shit. Also in the nicest possible way, you are just getting older and the festival has to change. Like the nova twins comment, they are sick live the music is dope. Id rather see that than racist old Phil come out and do the pantera tribute act.
I agree the Festival has to evolve with the times however that's not why I'm mad. My complaint is that for the 20th anniversary celebration I was expecting the best of Download in the last 20 years, this feels like any other Download festival with an extra day thrown in.
