My wife and I honeymooned in Yosemite in 1965, quite a few yrs. ago, with a tent. We actually had time to do some hiking. Yosemite remains a special place for us. We live about 80 miles from the park so we get there often for day hikes. We are 75 and 76 yrs. old now. Love your videos. I actually don't have much time for T V anymore, since I discovered Utube.
Beautiful back country! You could probably say you hiked the PCT 2 times at one time lol. What I mean is all of the times you put the camera down and then go back to get it 😊. Your videos are amazing! Great job Darwin! 👍🏻👏🏻🎒😃
Loved seeing you use your water filter. As someone yet to do a through hike it’s great to see a mix of the stunning beauty and every so often a bit of footage of how you manage the the hiking/survival process also. Your travels are an inspiration!
You are a great story teller. One thing I really appreciate, besides the most excellent photography, is how nicely edited your videos are: pace, flow, soundtrack, shots...it's all there. Keep 'em coming!
Here I am sitting in my recliner enjoying your hike, the beautiful sky and mountain peaks while your setting up cameras, ford streams, tending scrapes, bruises and swatting bugs. The least I can do is hit you a like and leave a comment. Thanks so VERY much for sharing.
These videos are as good as any National Geographic documentary. You guys should be getting paid the big bucks. Great job on the editing too! -- Saw this quote today and thought of ya'll: "The most dangerous risk of all is the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet that you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later." I admire you guys living for today and always in the moment.. Happy Anniversary Darwin and Snuggles!
Those last 200 miles were the JMT - the crown of t he Sierra -- which actually extend a bit further north, as you will still see lots of granite around Lake Tahoe s you go through Desolation and a bit further north. Glad you got through the snow, and icy water ok. (except for some scrapes). Happy Trails.
Hi Darwin, I love your channel and subbed, We (wife and I)are following the complete series of the PCT trail, love it!!! We were allready was 2 times in the US and loved the national parks, this year we will do some more. In the video you were eaten by mosquitos, the Scandinavian have a wonderfull product for this "Becks Ölje", some pine tar derivat and I tested it in Scotland against the dredded "midge"s" and worked fantastic! Kind regards from the Belgian Ardennes, Yves.
I've just discovered this channel today. As a big fan of hiking / adventuring myself, I have to say... I'VE BEEN MISSING OUT! This channel is awesome, and you have great things to say about the placed you've been and the gear you use!
Confused by statements that Sierra is almost done. To my way of thinking they go completely up into Northern California. Anyway, enjoy your videos. They especially make me reminisce about my 50 mile hikes down around Yellowstone in the 1960's. You could go a week back then and not see any other hikers. Beautiful. Lords Meadows one of my favorite places anywhere. Was at Dorothy Lake in 1967 last.
You were camped out below goat rocks just down the path from my friend and I two days ago. I wanted to thank you as one of your videos convinced me to buy the skyscape trekker ( I love it btw) but you packed out much earlier than we did. Anyways, thanks and love your videos!
Awesome videos, but yeah, the Sierra Nevada extend quite a ways further than Sonora. I believe Lassen is the first of the Cascade mountains and the Sierra extend all the way up to there. Tahoe National Forest is my current stomping grounds, and it is certainly part of the Sierra Nevada. It's really cool seeing you hike past places I've been from San Jacinto and San Gorgonio in Southern California, to Sequoia and Yosemite in Central California, and beyond. I hope to connect all the dots one day. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Darwin, nice to show backcountry hiking isn't all chocolate mint ice cream. I was going to work 3 days ago and picked up ~One More Mile~ and give her a ride up to Santiam pass. Always giving thru hikers rides this time of year.
I did a 3 day out-and-back hike from Tuolumne to Glen Aulin, which was a blast. Lovely scenery and it was so beautiful out in the Yosemite back country. Definitely a huge step up from the valley area which is a total disaster. No crowds, just you and nature. I'll definitely plan to do it again.
Happy anniversary. Bridgeport is so cute. Hope you got to soak your sore back side in a nice mineral hot spring. So many up there. Enjoying seeing the views. Thanks for posting. Looking forward to more posts.
Been waiting for this! I'm doing a 150mile hike in 2 days time and its the first time i've done a distance like that. Previous best was 70, so it's over double! Nervous and excited. Your videos are a great inspiration for me to get out there and see the world!
What I like about Darwin is that he hits on a truth about any type of backpacking that most of the bloggers don’t talk about: that - a lot of the time backpacking sucks.
This amazing! Thank you again for all of your work to produce these amazing videos and information sources. They are part of my daily watching to inspire me to keep on my diet. One day, I will hike the AT! But first, I must get better in shape.
Bruce Blair Just do it! Don't wait until you're "in shape". It's like they say about having kids. If you wait until you're ready, you'll never actually do it.
I understand what you are saying, but for health reasons, I need to lose a lot of weight first. I need to get below 300 at least, which is at this point 120 pounds away. I have lost 40 so far in two months.
Bruce Blair I understand and i support your journey! Thank you for explaining to me your specific circumstances, you really didnt need to do that. And congratulations on the 40 pounds! May you continue in your success in becoming more healthy. 💖
Bruce Blair I hear ya. I also want to do the AT and I am building my trail legs up now with smaller treks. I am using the trails to lose weight and let me tell ya being a little heavy you burn cals like crazy. I went for an 8 mile trek and burned up 6k in cals! Just keep up the good work and we will both make it there one day!
Hi Darwin. Thanks for your channel, it's great. I live in Australia and am just getting back into "bushwalking" as we call it here. I'm updating my gear and am trying to lighten my load. At 5:21-5:25 it looks like one of your hiking buddies had a two wall tent. What was that please?
Got the chance to meet you out on the trail during this video. Saw you just before you came to the "trail that doubles as a waterfall!" What a gorgeous area! Great videos and Good Luck!
Hi Mr D! Looking good there fella! Snapped my tail bone loads snow boarding.. Takes a while to heal and there's nowt you can do for it! Head net looks like a must! Enjoying your vids! Happy hiking!
So happy I found your videos. I am learning so much. My plan is to do PCT next year for my 66th. Happy anniversary to you and Snuggles. Hope you get a mosquito net for your anniversary present🙌🏻👍🏻
One of my CNOC poles broke on my first day back on the AT this year. Not even a much of a slip. I'm a light guy, so I was surprised at how easy it is to snap these poles. I also get a little frustrated getting the Sawyer squeeze to seal on the CNOC water bag. The designs are clever, but perhaps not quite trail hardened yet.
Happy Belated Anniversary to you and Snuggles and sorry to hear about the pole, your pride, and the tailbone. I hope it was just a bruise since those things are murder to heal up if cracked or broken.
OK for the sake of accuracy according to the geography department at Chico State University the actual divide between the Sierras and the Cascades is the Feather River in Plumas County.
Don't know about you, but I was in Tuolumne Meadows the 24th, had to leave the following day though because of the Ferguson Fires. Nonetheless, best of luck on your travels. Hope your butt is fine!
Darwin...love your videos and the helpful information you put out there, thank you...ps you have beautiful eyes...snuggles is a luck lady.... ;). Happy Anniversary...
Ouch! I literally gasped when I saw your 'ice rash', ( not to be confused with road rash) ;-) . Man, I bet that hurt worse the next day. Sorry about the pole....again.
I've had a bruised tail bone, so I really feel for you, hard to walk, sit or lay on your back. Hope it heals quickly!! Could you show me Cruisin's sun hat or at least tell which one it is, I need the sun protection and ventilation. Thanks for taking us along on your hike!
By Tahoe there's still Dicks Pass (9300' or 9400'), still going to be at an average of 8000' with plenty of vertical gain/loss. The Sierra Buttes, Middle and North Fork of Feather River are a beautiful pain as well. Definitely still the Sierras. haha. Ya, I'm up in Reno, Cali smoke always settles in up here. Luckly this time wasn't too bad.
Wow. You really took a beating in this stretch. Do the bears know that you ditch the bear cans north of Yosemite? You better hope they don't. ;) Happy Anniversary to you and Snuggles. Hope your zero or double zero was great. Bruised tailbones are like injured ribs. I really hope you're feeling better now. Be safe and God bless you.
Martin T gotcha. I figured, cause I do follow his IG and I know he’s on his last stretch by now. And I figure these videos are posted weekly so there’s a lot of footage not shown that is filmed daily
One good thing about the mosquitos is you're lighter going over the passes. You're not done with the up and down it won't get flatter until about Oregon. Remember livings easier in California if you believe the commercials unfortunatly they don't mention hiking. Have fun.
Darwin, in two of your recent videos I see your Bear Can is just a few feet from your tent. I'd this where you leave it all the time or do you move it further out from camp? This is my biggest fear......the Bears and Bear Cans!!!
Great vid as always!! Could you vlog the first few days after you finish the trail? I want to see how going from walking 20-30 miles a day to much less affects you! (Bit of a weird one)
Love your travels, really enjoying your PCT adventure. In this video you kept saying Sonora Pass was the end of the Sierras, however, the northernmost end is probably more appropriately a bit north of the Feather River along Chips Creek. At the very least, north of Lake Tahoe. Or is Sonora Pass more of a PCT thru-hikers designation for the end of the Sierra Nevada? Just wondering, that had be a bit confused as I watched. Paul Knutson Lucky you! I would love to meet Darwin 😁
Happy anniversary to the both of you! Thank you Snuggles for sharing the journey.
Stunning . . . there's nothing like the Sierras. But it's not the Sierras you are done with but the HIGH Sierras.
Darwin, Dixie, Rabid Rabbit, I love them all. They all inspire me in different ways.
Thank you for the great pictures ... Now my day is much more beautiful
What Freedom. Beautiful Scenery! Thanks for sharing with us. Stay Safe brother
Congrats on the end of Sierra! Major props for making it so far👏
Happy Anniversary to you both!
Hi Mr D! Looking good there fella! Snapped my tail bone loads snow boarding.. Takes a while to heal and there's nowt you can do for it! Head net looks like a must! Enjoying your vids! Happy hiking!
Keep pushing Darwin, we believe in you.
Beautifully filmed and informative along with a little bit of struggle thrown in ... this is a grate video series...
Love watching he videos. Love the exit out of Yosemite and Sonora Pass is really cool, once at the pass. The climb can be a pain if a sun field.
My husband and I enjoy your videos so much! Best wishes from the Bennetts!
BEAST! I had a tail bone injury playing football. I don't know how you are doing it. You da man!
So happy I found your videos. I am learning so much. My plan is to do PCT next year for my 66th. Happy anniversary to you and Snuggles. Hope you get a mosquito net for your anniversary present🙌🏻👍🏻
Always the best Darwin hike on brother

Way to go Mr. Darwin...Congratulations on the 1K miles...good to see you with other skilled hikers...
OK for the sake of accuracy according to the geography department at Chico State University the actual divide between the Sierras and the Cascades is the Feather River in Plumas County.
Yes, I wonder what Darwin’s calling the mountains north of Sonora Pass? The maps say: Sierras!
Last time I was in Yosemite, we ran into a major swarm of skeeters in the eastern part of the park but none on the western half,
Don't know about you, but I was in Tuolumne Meadows the 24th, had to leave the following day though because of the Ferguson Fires. Nonetheless, best of luck on your travels. Hope your butt is fine!
Darwin...love your videos and the helpful information you put out there, thank you...ps you have beautiful eyes...snuggles is a luck lady.... ;). Happy Anniversary...
Loving following you on the PCT.
Stay safe
Ouch! I literally gasped when I saw your 'ice rash', ( not to be confused with road rash) ;-) . Man, I bet that hurt worse the next day. Sorry about the pole....again.
Yes! Always look forward to Thursday’s! Keep up the hard work. Love all your vids.
Congratulations on your anniversary and PCT 1000 miles...........great hamburgers at the 'Burger Barn' in Bridgeport !
I've had a bruised tail bone, so I really feel for you, hard to walk, sit or lay on your back. Hope it heals quickly!! Could you show me Cruisin's sun hat or at least tell which one it is, I need the sun protection and ventilation. Thanks for taking us along on your hike!
Congrats on the anniversary! I'm at year 12 myself.
You are only half way thru the Sierras. Who says they end at Sonora Pass?
I think the guthook's app says that, so everyone thinks it's true.
Ah, boy are they in for a surprise then, lol.
By Tahoe there's still Dicks Pass (9300' or 9400'), still going to be at an average of 8000' with plenty of vertical gain/loss. @@mrfurrytoes1 That guthooks app needs a little slap saying that ;-)

Hurts now, gonna hurt more in the morning. Hope you have your vitamin I handy!
Congratulations! Wish you good recovery...
Awesome video Darwin! Love the Sierras but extremely demanding for sure. Darn snow pack makes things 10 times harder lol
Looks like you made it right before the fires! I was there this past weekend and visibility was about 500’ in some areas of the park
Daniel Lin if you follow his Instagram he is WAY farther ahead. The videos seem to lag behind by a month or so. He beat the fires by a lot.
Martin T gotcha. I figured, cause I do follow his IG and I know he’s on his last stretch by now. And I figure these videos are posted weekly so there’s a lot of footage not shown that is filmed daily
Darwin, The Polebreaker :D
I see a career as a gear tester............;-)
Yeah I feel like the pole could of not broken if he was a little more careful. That said what do I know. I’ve never through hiked anything 😒
He’s so negative. Constantly complaining about everything instead of enjoying the journey
I gotta say, it's a bit early for the Post Hole game. (Reference to last weeks video: suggested game, take a drink every time Darwin says Post Hole.)
Happy Anniversary to you and Snuggles!! Hope your tailbone is feeling better!!!!
Happy Anniversary, 👍🏽👣👣👣👣🏔🏕
I'm happy you're in such a beautiful place. Heal up quick man.
Bigfoot says Permethrin gives him about 4 weeks of protection from mosquitoes and ticks.
You can order it from Amazon, tractor supply, academy, etc.
Oh my goodness be careful what with the fires in the area! Keep on truckin!
Beautiful video but aside from that I hope you are healing up and not as sore. Happy Anniversary Take Care
Welcome back. I've been waiting on your update.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to two of my fav hikers. Lots of love to you and Snuggles. Xxoo
I keep meaning to ask what’s the bladder you use that attaches to the sawyer filter ? That looks like good system 😀
How do you set your tent up without a pole? Just find a stick or something?
Jelle Smit i was wondering the same thing
I thought the same thing.
Any straightish 48 inch object should do.
I suspect Duct Tape the pieces of the poles. That's why he carries the Duct Tape on his poles.
Michael Levasseur that's probably most likely
I got to go back and catch up on your hike. Looks great. That's not road rash, that's trail rash!
One good thing about the mosquitos is you're lighter going over the passes. You're not done with the up and down it won't get flatter until about Oregon. Remember livings easier in California if you believe the commercials unfortunatly they don't mention hiking. Have fun.
Congrats on surviving the Sierras. Also, congrats on the wedding anniversary!
Good you missed the fire smoke on the west side of Yosemite
Clarence Lee if you follow his Instagram he is WAY farther ahead. The videos seem to lag behind by a month or so. He was way ahead of the fire.
Martin T haha...I swore off IG. Lucky him to do any of this. Live vicariously 😕
Happy Anniversary.
Hope you're on the mend soon.
heyo i was in that area just north of Tuolumne a few days ago, smoke was shitty but its an awesome area
Happy Anniversary!!!!!!
Congrats on all milestones!
Darwin, in two of your recent videos I see your Bear Can is just a few feet from your tent. I'd this where you leave it all the time or do you move it further out from camp? This is my biggest fear......the Bears and Bear Cans!!!
Hope your tailbone gets better man, keep trucking!
Great vid as always!! Could you vlog the first few days after you finish the trail? I want to see how going from walking 20-30 miles a day to much less affects you! (Bit of a weird one)
As always, a nice vidéo. PCT is a dream for us... Cheers from France :)
Trekkeurs Compulsifs True... Same for me.. My dream.. Someday soon 🔜
Thanks. It would be interesting to get your opinion on your ten favorite hikes.
happy anniversary!

Congrats on wedding anniversary and 1000 miles and done with the Sierras.
i just watched your video on how you afford your live style. that's awesome you do you and if some don't like it they can go watch the cooking channel keep on keepen on.
Nice scenery. Glad you made it through Yosemite before fires.
Hey what about using "one single piece aluminium poles"... like the first ones of Rossignol previously the invention of the 4 pieces ones... I bought hi speed curved aluminium ski poles because that shape and material provides the suspension needed not to stress your hands and arms, and because I heard talking about the NORDIC WALKING POLES. And well yes, in one hand you lose the chance to shorten them, but in the other hand you win in sturdiness... other ways you can stuff them inside with tent pegs, medical supplies, matches (keeping them dry), cord, fishing gear... and all the supplies that can fit into the pipe. Have to say that survival hiking stick inspired me a lot...
Ever hike Half Dome? Is it as hard as they say it is?
well at least now I don't feel bad about the poles I've broken. I thought it was just an affliction I had! Trek on!!
Amazing footage. Hope your tail bone feels better Darwin. Look forward to more vids.
Keep it up big fella! Absolute inspiration 🤙🏼🙌🏼
Love your vids and I am totally addicted to watching them. I am a plus size trekker and have a fire now for getting healthy by walking trails. How do you deal with all of the water crossings with feet being wet for long periods?
Watching every episode and loving it! How long does it take for your shoes and socks to dry when you walk through water?
I like the you reference the areas you're in or are about to encounter so I can follow along on Google Earth.
do you not prepare for the mosquitoes with your experience, no deet or mosquito repellent colombia clothing? I have in my alaska expiditions, including gators, Long sleeve shirts and rediculants solar mosquito repellents...
Links to the gear list are in the description.
I really like that pink and purple shirt that guy was wearing. Wonder what brand that is.
What rain gear do you recommend and have you had any that are totally waterproof? I've tried two highly rated jackets that supposedly were waterproof but weren't AT ALL. One soaked my tee shirt through in five minutes. The other soaked my sides through CLOSED pit zips nearly as fast. I'm heading out on a week backpacking trip in a rainy cold area and need waterproof. Thank you!
