I sat here asking myself, why I liked this episode even more than the others. Great camera work? Superb post-production? Good story? All of this is true, but the answer to my question is simple, I realize now. Corny as that may sound: You put a lot of love into making this vlog. That comes across, that makes it really special. Thanks Darwin!
Thanks for sharing, my nephew is on he trail, (His trail name maybe electrolyte, not 100 percent sure) but not updating with video, so this is great. He did meet Snuggles somewhere along the trail early on. Safe travels and again thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you got a chance to rest your weary bones have some time to your wife for your and her anniversary congratulations 11 years and again very beautiful scenery excellent video
Echo lakes, squaw, sierra city. I know it well. Been hiking in those places 50 years. Brings back good memories everytime. Thanks for the episode. It is pretty country.
We all have our choices and can like or dislike what we want. I like them both for different reasons and watch to learn and grow from their experience and advice.
I remember those days. About '72 I hiked up Horsetail Falls to Avalanche Lake, then to Lake of The Woods with my brother backpacking. Now permits and tons of people. Still hike there, mostly day hikes, some backpacks.
Some videos you can look at the news or whatever while you watch em , but not Darwin's you only get a sense of the awesomeness by watching em and seeing the views and great camera work!
I just finished hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail a couple weeks ago. The PCT joins up with the TRT just in time for the beautiful Desolation Wilderness section. BTW, the TRT is about 170 miles long. Great effort and episode Darwin.
Tahoe & Squaw Valley area are amazing....so glad you are enjoying it. Wish I was out there to provide some trail magic for ya! Stay safe & have fun! Great video!!!
So amazing I dream of hiking like this. My family enjoy walking around city's for holidays but I just love walking into the hills and mountains just so beautiful.
I've been so busy I haven't been able to check out your hike lately...looks like you having a great time.. I'm doing mount Mansfield (Stowe ski resort) tomorrow.. Vermonts highest peak...I'm stoked, seeing your video was a nice reminder of what I'll be doing.. hike on my friend, enjoy your trip;
The section with the Tahoe Rim Trail/PCT isn't also the JMT, that ended at Tuolumne Meadows, it is besides the PCT and TRT, it is also the Tahoe to Yosemite trail.
I know I'm a week late, but that Indian restaurant in South Lake Tahoe is amazing.. Especially after eating trail food for a couple days... Last time I was in Tahoe it was my final goodbye to psychedelia, ended up eating masala and watching the sunset on 2 tabs of acid... Honestly the most incredible experience of my life...
When you have down time, and I know there is never a lot of that, but I would love to see a Q&A with the hikers you are with on the trail. It is always cool to network and meet other hikers on the trail, especially for those of us hiking vicariously through you - lol. Just a thought.
Awesome scenery, overall awesome job on your videos. Learning a lot about what to expect on my first multi-week backpacking hike at 61 years young! Like a few others, including an audible date and number of days on the trail would would be nice to know on the next journey. Thanks Darwin. trekrXC
Vons is the same corporation as Albertsons (aka Safeway) just FYI - nothing special about Vons, they have the same stuff as any market in the Albertsons/Safeway chain of stores that also include Randalls, Lucky, Shaws, Tom Thumb.... stores in over 30 states - really just depends on where you are in the country. But it's all the same store essentially. I know only because I used to work for one. But what California DOES have along the PCT which a lot of states don't is Grocery Outlet, which is a discount chain with tons of good hiker snacks at very low prices - the locations in Mammoth and Bishop are especially set up well for hiker food. We affectionally refer to this market as "Gross Out" because back in the day they used to have a lot of questionable products, dented cans, and expired food... (okay they sometimes still do, but they've improved dramatically at carrying local, organic, and healthy snacks)
Yey! A Darwin video! Also, press please bring Q and A videos again. Please please please please! I loved those videos and I'm sure others have so so so many new things to ask you about! Please Darwin! Lol.
Wow.....you are on the last 500 with new gear.............. your future held much beauty :) Looking forward to all the videos !!! Appreciate the IG updates
Have bin watching you from the land down under,”Australia”. Inspiring Mate,!,,, have many trails planned myself. Would love to here some gear comments whilst on trail, pros cons etc. Would like your opinion on double wall tent, in that I have found that they also get condensation, and have to be dried out, so wondering what you have found. Great work, 👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Darwin, are you going to be near trail days in Oregon? It’s the 17th-19th. I’d love to bring you some trail magic either way. Hope to see you soon in Oregon when you get to the Columbia crossing. Great stuff brother!
Darwin,. much gratitude for the work you put into these videos. Its inspiring me to go back and finish. In 2017 aloha lake was right behind northern Yosemite as the worst on the PCT for the skeeters... how was it this year? Seemed like you flew right by that section. PS. hope you got one of those "forest floor burgers"at stateline brewery.........
Darwin I’ve got the same shoes and I love them but it only took a month to get them. Started out with 10 to small went to 10 1/2 and still to tight waited a extra week until new shipment came in and got 11 and they feel great
I've always considered Tahoe part of the Sierra. Not the most arduous bit, but the Sierra non the less. The Desolation Wilderness is 'bout my favorite part of the range.
Yeah, I've always thought the Sierras went further north too. According to Wikipedia: Fredonyer Pass is part of the approximate boundary between the Sierra Nevada and the Cascade Range. The Pass, elevation 5,751 feet (1,753 m), is in Lassen County, California.
Wow those areas look fantastic, I'm feeling very envious. I hope you avoid any of the fires that are about, I'm from Australia and a bunch of our firefighters are leaving today, bound for Boise. Probably IMT (Incident Management Teams) and not front line fire fighters.
Since you are also in California please do be careful with all the fires I'm not exactly certain how far you are away from them stay far enough and try to stay on the Trail as much as possible but again please be safe
Seems like a lot of what bummed you out about the Sierras was due to the snow. I strongly encourage you to come back and give the JMT or a similar section another try in, say, August, when snow is pretty much non-existent. It'd give you a chance to appreciate the trail at it's best. Still tough, but in a way that allows you to engage in the experience in a less suffer-y way.
I see all your hiker shoes are low boys .... I grew up up in North Idaho and I feel ankle support is necessary. ...? But you do you very well , any insight on the no ankle support
Question... if anyone knows the answer. When did Darwin starts the PCT? And where is he now? We just started following him and we are enjoying the videos so much. Happy trails!
mediterranean curry????? What's that??? I live on an island in the mediterranean (sea between europe and africa) and i've never heard of that!!! :) nice video once again Darwin! Always enjoying you!
Thank you for this channel. Your videos are both informative and inspirational. One thing I haven't seen you discuss...Do you use a compass when you hike and backpack? I've frequently heard that one should never trust your life to a battery. Can you please comment on the use of compasses and suggested brands and models. Thank you.

Ray Kroebl You nailed. Amen

Best episode in a while! Your energy is high and you can feel it in the video. Enjoyed it a lot!
I agree with you..
Im glad to see that his injury from earlier in the series had pretty much faded away.
Right! Darwin's energy jumped with the change of the tail. Great comment Ultralight!
I just started watching your videos a while ago! It almost feels like a small world that you watch Darwin too.
I’m in that area a lot also. Doing 31 miles from echo lakes in 1 day is no joke.
Best trail magic from people who support your moral!!
Eleven years! Good for you and Snuggles, CONGRATULATIONS!!
How can someone dislike Darwin or Dixie videos? It baffles the mind.
Just trolls - Ignore them.
Personally, I don't like Dixie. But I enjoy Darwin.
I think they are both amazing people, who are not only an inspiration to me but an inspiration many.
We all have our choices and can like or dislike what we want.
I like them both for different reasons and watch to learn and grow from their experience and advice.
I like that you measure your time with others by the number of miles. Solitude is too underrated. Great episode.
Very, very nice! The beautiful scenery is second to none 😊
Thanks so much, Darwin.
What beautiful scenery ? very little without a obstruction.
Thank you. I used to back pack the desolation wilderness a lot back in the mid 1970s. Go for days without seeing another hiker.
I remember those days. About '72 I hiked up Horsetail Falls to Avalanche Lake, then to Lake of The Woods with my brother backpacking. Now permits and tons of people. Still hike there, mostly day hikes, some backpacks.
Been watching the whole series and total bad ass! Great work and truly an awesome experience. Thank you for taking us along. Stay safe.
11 th anniversary is an excellent start. Your photography is so clear and detailed. Great editing.
2:11 "Oooooooh-eeeeeeeee!!!"
All hail the jalapeño cheese baguette.
always enjoy the video updates Darwin! Congratulations to you and Snuggles!

I watched all PCT videos you made, thank you! Great stuff, great videos, great commentary, great vistas, just great. Thank you again.
You’re in my area! It’s fun to hear you talk about all the different spots around home for me. Loved it!
Tahoe & Squaw Valley area are amazing....so glad you are enjoying it. Wish I was out there to provide some trail magic for ya! Stay safe & have fun! Great video!!!
Congrats on your wedding anniversary !!
So amazing I dream of hiking like this. My family enjoy walking around city's for holidays but I just love walking into the hills and mountains just so beautiful.
Yay! Happy to see your enjoying the trail. Welcome to NorCal. Thanks for sharing your adventure

Really enjoying your journey vicariously. Cheers.
Happy to see you feeling happy and upbeat. Was fun watching. Looks like a beautiful area to hike. Congrats on your wedding anniversary!
The TRT is 170 miles. I will be on it starting the 25th of this month. I'm sorry I won't be there to meet you. Keep smiling and hike on.
When you have down time, and I know there is never a lot of that, but I would love to see a Q&A with the hikers you are with on the trail. It is always cool to network and meet other hikers on the trail, especially for those of us hiking vicariously through you - lol. Just a thought.
Happy Anniversary folks! Eleven years. Nice!
So awesome to see you on trails that I do day hikes on. Hike On Darwin!
Congratulations on your 11 years. We just passed our 25. Time goes by so quick. Make the best of it.
You were making me hungry for Chinese food, so I was disappointed that there wasn't any video footage of it. :) I think I'll get some for dinner....
Thanks Darwin for all the effort you put into making these great videos.
Echo to Squaw is a section I believe I will be able to get done. Great video. I believe the JMT ends in Yosemite. You are on the TRT and PCT.
Awesome scenery, overall awesome job on your videos. Learning a lot about what to expect on my first multi-week backpacking hike at 61 years young! Like a few others, including an audible date and number of days on the trail would would be nice to know on the next journey. Thanks Darwin. trekrXC

It's good to see that's what I'll be going through in a few months on the ADT which crosses the PCT at the Tahoe Rim Trail.
You had me at jalapeño cheddar! Luv me some Vons! And WHAT!??? Humus! DUDE I am so gonna do this. You have just invented a new taste sensation!
You deserve all the trail magic! Keep up all the great work brother!
Dope to see a desolation wilderness sign on one of your videos after all of this time watching your channel, that's where I hike 😀
Darwin I’ve got the same shoes and I love them but it only took a month to get them. Started out with 10 to small went to 10 1/2 and still to tight waited a extra week until new shipment came in and got 11 and they feel great
Great video! Wow a 31 mile day! Your an animal. Thanks for sharing!
You seem in better spirits and, again, awesome camera work and storytelling dude! Congrats on 11y!

Happy belated anniversary! We celebrated our 11 year this summer as well!

He uses Guthook Guides phone app. No compass.
Tahoe Rim Trail - a 165 mile thru hike :-)
After all that talk about the Chinese food, I really wanted to see a shot of his towering plate of buffet food.
Rock on... Thank you again for sharing this journey.... Cheers
There's a closure up in washington state due to fires.
I was just thinking “He’s got to be due for some new shoes.” And then bam, you bought some. Crazy!
Was thinking of trying an alcohol stove for the PCT. Is there enough resupply or availability for that option on the PCT?
Amazing Video, again!
Best wishes and good Luck from Germany!
Way to go on your 30+ day of hiking and progress so far!
Happy Anniversary!
Awesome scenery!
Hi from NJ
Fancy doing the TGO challenge hike across Scotland with me in May 2019 it's only 12 days of Scottlishness!
