"...skip ahead to 10:00..." hahahahah - excellent
@Keenan Pablo go away
Favorite part of the video - twirling the saw blade around hand, followed immediately by a close-up action shot of putting on a band-aid.
Be carful of that foot switch, I have one for my bandsaw (wood) and I almost cut a finger off while doing a set up on the saw and I stepped on the foot switch.....
Lol agreed! My wife suggested I throw the foot switch up on the work table when not using it. Just to prove her wrong I did accidentally step on it one day and it scared the shit out of me. My new “idea” is to throw the foot switch up on the table when I am not using it.. 🤣😉😁
@@jonkwilloughby why not put a safety switch inline with the footswitch? Preferably with a bright LED light. Sounds less tedious than bending over to get the switch off the floor everytime
Really cool set up. But that Saw came with no blade?? That’s like buying Pencils with no lead🤔
Buying a good quality mechanical pencil, I wouldn't expect it to include graphite.
There are hundreds of different types of blades, why would a manufacturer increase the price by including something a good chunk of users might not want?
@@JustinDavidow my table saw, circular saw and jigsaw all came with blades.
A glimpse inside im pretty sure is a friend of his.. and pretty sure he was just giving him heck... lol like chill out comment police
SMH selling a saw without a blade.
Thanks for watching! I've make a playlist of my favorite woodworking projects: ua-cam.com/play/PLhqK_8dnaIW3V6a66AdyRI9DJUZwCSm83.html
Subtle with the skip ahead to 10:00 message
This cracked me up.
I built my own portaband table and absolutely love it. I ended up welding a toggle clamp to the bottom of the table which keeps the saw locked in place it makes changing out blades really fast and don't have to worry about losing a screw. Its super convenient and I end up using it for all sorts of little cutting tasks be it wood or metal.
Two videos in one week. I feel soiled. 👍
Soiled?
That doesn't sound very pleasant!
@@warpman74 😂 it was a typo. I should have been spoiled.
That's was I guessed, but you can never be too sure! 😁
Subtitles when talking about the xacto knife incident: "good job, potato!"
Adam Savage actually made one of these for himself with his own little improvements like variable speed and other QOL features, good One Day Build if you like watching those!
The first thing you should do with that set up is make your own version of their table, but better.
ha, right?!
Haha skip to 10:00
GREAT VIDEO!!! New subscriber, and I'll be making purchases from your MAKESOMETHING site very soon. Awesome stuff, bro.
I remember finding you under the name Drunken Woodworker. You were great then, and still great and even better now. Glad I have stuck around to see what you make.
🙏❤️
i still call him the drunken woodworker
I was wondering why not buy a bandsaw? It’s at harbor freight for $160. Should I buy a portable bandsaw for $100 or a bandsaw for $160
Ok, you inspired me to buy a swag portaband table. I bought one from "Yatate online shop". I hope it's legit. May not be. I got the table, the switch, the miter gauge, and 2-3 end mill bits ta boot, for, wait for it... $99, free shipping, no tax. So I'm thinking I'm going to have to chase this to get my money back when it never shows up, as it's likely as I suspect, too good to be true.
Hey @makesomething. Not sure if you'll see this. If you do. Can you tell me if the blade is fully square with the table?
I just got a Bauer and Hercules portable band saw and it's definitely not square with the table above the first inch. I saw you square it up but only the bottom portion.
Not sure if this is my stand or not he design of portabands
My problem with this, as cool as it is, is that this saw is $300 and that swag table is like $170, and for about the same price or a little less you can just get a variable tabletop bandsaw that will be so much more quiet and not take all the setup and finagling this does. Not to mention it be much safer than just strapping a trigger button down and plugging it in and out as your on off switch.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to be insulting here, but I’ve seen lot of people suggest this for knife making, and the price point just doesn’t make sense.
I really felt like we were having a one on one conversation about Square Space. I appreciate you to!
Don’t like all the talking. Skip ahead to 10:00. Hahahahahahaha. Best in video text prompt...EVER
Seems like a bit over kill ~$500+ for this setup vs a standard bandsaw with metal cutting blade
I got a swag with the dewalt. Love it!
Nice! I have this setup, but my blade does not like to cut parallel to the miter slots. Any ideas?
Thought about doing the same thing but after everything is said and done you can get a bandsaw for around 450 to 550 bench top so I haven’t decided yet
So, looking into this, just to clarify, you needed to “cut out” to allow for the saw to fit properly, also, does it need to be secured what ever the stand it going to be on?
Dude, David... your videos have such a fun attitude now. Keep it up man!
The swag stuff is nice but the price point is just way too expensive for what you get.
Can make curve cuts using 4x4 wooden posts?
I made a wall mount for mine and then used an inline foot pedal switch with a velcro strap on the trigger. The foot switch makes it quick and easy to walk up and take a cut and walk away.
David almost proved why foot pedal switches can be risky. Always the inadvertent step on the switch totally by accident which causes one. Personally had it happen but only turned on a dust collector. Just saying.
New tool day is always a good day.
Very good video, good content, master 👍🏻
Should have made the time to skip to 8:50 if you don't like the talking! Ha
Congrats David, I bet that's going to be a game changer for you! You forgot to mention the red hoodies on your merch as well as the hot off the presses Milwaukee instructions puzzle
Cool just ordered one for my Dewalt DCS371
Awesome, Dave!!! 😃
Congrats for the new toy!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Vertical bandsaws are great tools
Those background colours are great. I'm really liking the look
Does anyone know what the foot pedal control is called
Started out the video and thought “oh man, he shoulda got the cordless”. Got to the part about the foot switch and thought “dang,I gotta get me a corded portaband...”
how likely is it to keep the settings (square, etc) when put back together?
Probably have to square it up each time but it should be close
Great video. Have same setup. It's a necessity for metal working. Mahalo for sharing! 🙂🐒
Please tell me where you got your shoes. I like them quite a bit.
Man I need one of these.... Best part of your video I believe was to ad read. Squarespace out of send you a bonus for this.
Dude I’ve been saving up for these parts for exactly this project. Timely vid. 👍
Omg the skip to 10:00 for real had me laughing out loud. Love!
My name is "Dan" and this video wigged me out 😆
I have had that table for a while now, holding a Harbor Freight Bauer brand saw. Just for giggles, after I put it together I grabbed a chunk of railroad track someone gave me and cut it with the saw, using the blade it came with and just a little CRC foamy tap fluid. Darned if it didn't cut the stuff with remarkable ease; 3 cuts to break up the track into usable chunks, and one to shave the top as the first step into making a small anvil. All with the original blade, which I guess was made on a Tuesday LOL. Anyway, I think you will get a lot of enjoyment out of this, congrats!
I haven’t picked up a metal cutting bandsaw, mostly because I haven’t needed one but also because they looked dangerous AF! If I do ever get the bandsaw, I will definitely pick up the table for it.
Dan, have you used Square Space yet? If not, WHY NOT!!??
I would never go without mine ever again. I use my foot pedal differently tho, better in my opinion by using my knee. Mount it under it on something. Cuts wood, leather, plastic I just can’t say enough.
How'd you know my name was Dan? Creepy.
I bought one of these at Blade Show in 2018 on JD Brewer’s recommendation. I love it. Powder coated mine.
I forgot why I subscribed to this channel, it's cos you do everything.
I got a good chuckle out of "tired of the talking skip to 10min". Checks video length... 10min.🤣
fantastic, I love mine, I think you will get a lot of use out of it
Nice video. Congratulations on the new tools / toy. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep Making. God Bless.
Jimmy doesn't have an extra bandsaw for you?? You should now make a bandsaw box with solid aluminum or something... That would be crazy!
Very cool tool. Thanks for the demo! More importantly, does Dan have a Squarespace site yet? 😄 Thanks for sharing!
This is just what I was looking for. Great video! Thanks David!
Skip ahead to 10:00. Naa why would I want to do that?
Bought a SAWG table a few months back but went with the Dewalt 120 because it is sold at Lowes 10% off and it has a light. I didn't get the foot pedal from SWAG but found I needed one after a bit of use and Woodcraft Toledo had one in stock. Works like a champ.
I really enjoy the table attachment. I built quarter round molding out of EMT with this.
Been using the table with a SWAG table with a Harbor Freight "Bauer" saw for close to three years. Outstanding combination. The table is a rock. Tried to get a miter gauge but couldn't find one.. Actually found that the miter gauge on my table saw works fine. This saw will handle an 1 1/2 steel bar and with lighter flat stock goes thru like grease thru a goose. Must have tool if you are metal working.
Is it a pain to change the blade with the slit going out the back and not out the front? Just curious, I suppose this is not a blade you change often. Keep up the great content!
You have to take it off the stand to change the blade. So yeah it is a pain.
Yeah "I'm gonna un plug this..." Nice way to disarm the safety Trolls. I saw the title and was like not gonna watch, but said what the heck. Glad I did, that is a pretty cool table.
I bought one of the old table tops from Swag a few years ago (just the top - clamps in my bench vise). I threw the HF Bauer band saw on it (the included blade was crap but the saw is great) and it became one of the most useful tools in my shop - more than I ever imagined.
Wow impressive
No disrespect, but you can get a small band saw for around $200, the kind that sits on a work table. It's nice you can modify your portable one, but you might end up spending more money, and lose the portability.
Those small $200 bandsaws are made for wood and spin too fast. Unless there's ones purposely made for metal that I don't know about?
@@MakeSomething OK, so you want to cut metal pipes and stuff. Cool. I personally want to shape some hardwood that is about 2" thick, and a traditional band saw seems about the only thing that can do that. Maybe a wood router, table and a big bit can too?
My son and I have been using the table with an HF saw for a couple years now. Really nice. I've just had the table in a vise so I can move it if needed. I think the foot switch and legs might need to added though. Really nice.
I’ve had the same setup for a couple years. It’s very nice. I ended up painting the Swag thing due to rust.
That's pretty awesome
Love my SWAG bandsaw table, nothing better with foot starter
I saw an old video with you in a 419 shirt, and I don't know if a viewer sent it, or you are actually from the 419/used to be/still live here, but I just want to say a fellow 419'er is a fan! Keep up the good work.
I’m a Toledo guy!
I️ just ordered! Thanks for making this video!
1:04 HAHAHAHAHA
Nice comment at 1:03.
I completely understand the "why didn't I get this sooner?" feeling. 6" ROS with an aggressive sanding mode - makes getting the drum sander lines out of stuff so easy.
Putting the warranty card back together at the end? Haha, that was a funny bit, running it like a fan on confetti
nice I need one.
👍🏻
This kind of natural content is amazing! Please, everytime you need any new tool for some purpose, show us!
Swag makes some quality stuff. I've been using that table with a HF saw for a couple years. It's so useful, I rarely cut metal with a recip saw or cut off anymore
We aren't sure why you waited so long either 🤷♂️ :D
at some point between the last bandsaw box and this, the shop became way more colorfull/artsy. I dig it.
Looks amazing. I loved the band aid shot and the skip ahead to 10:00 😂
I'm surprised you didn't make your bench top shirt in red, it's like looking at a different person!
“Don’t like all the talking?” - HA HA! I creased. 😂
Ive had the exact same setup for a few years now. I love it.
Sorry. I had to stop the video and ask you to stop calling me "Dan"! My name is David, just like you. Okay that said, back to the video!
😆
DP....as a non metalworker, would love to know how, other than the blade, a metal band saw is different than a wood bandsaw. Perhaps to explain in your next vid?
In a nutshell: Slower speed and different blade.
For milwaukees insane price points they couldve included a saw blade.
No kidding!
Love the caption at 1:00😂
I initially read the title as "A Portable Band Saw that also turns into a Table Saw". I thought, that would be cool.
Ha!
How about a diy wood version?
Nice addition! Hopefully you put it in the garage before your wood got jealous.
Hehe!
Only issue I can see it that you can't saw a very long piece of metal due to the depth (throat) dimension.
Yeah, this is true unfortunately
Good job, Picciuto! No really, good job!
Is Dan real?
Sometimes.
AM I DAN?
I've had one of these for a few years. Works real good. Suggestion: keep extra blades on hand.
I 100% agree. Such a fun way to relax and get inspired to make somethimg.
man... youre out there getting all the tools i want... been looking at the swag kit
@@gtuttle4 I'm working on it...
I bought one a couple of weeks ago used it with a new Dewalt. Got the foot pedal and non painted one. I painted myself, saved like $60. I absolutely love this set up; mostly using for hobby knife making. It is awesome I totally agree with your level of enthusiasm and review!! :)
Are you able to cut tempered steel?
@@Anders.B I haven’t tired cutting tempered yet but when I do, I’ll post! :)
Can you take the saw in and out of the stand fairly easily so it can be used either way?
Never mind, I need to wait until the end of the video to ask questions. I'll never learn.
