the mists of pandaria talents look bad on the outside if you are unaware that all of the passive talents you used to put points into were just given to you passively. it wasn't until WoD where they pruned all of that stuff and left in the talent system

Actually agree with bob with dragonflying, its such a good feature. It wouldn't work in cata due to small zones and not that much height unfortunately, but that was a banger of an opinion tbh

To dive a little deeper for anyone interested in Healing as a Frost Mage in SoD some key talents I've found to be helpful are Permafrost, imp Blizzard, Frost Channeling, Arctic Reach & Frostbite (chill affects 15% chance to freeze comes in clutch).
With Arctic Reach, Frost Channeling, & imp blizzard it allows you to use your rank 1 blizzard often in big team fights. Say you have a Boomy, Spriest, & Ele trying to chase some people down those classes don't have ranged slows and you can just simply rank 1 blizzard and it traps them with Frostbite procs allowing your team to catch up to them lol
Most Mages already know this but I'll say it, using Rank 1 abilities Frost Nova, Cone of Cold, Blizzard, & of course Frostbolt helps apply chill affects while conserving mana.
Another thing you can do is run the Enlightenment rune on chest especially if you're healing in STV BM as you're often below 35% mana that rune + Mage armor gives you 40% mana regen while casting. (Throw Ice Armor on if you are about to be attacked by melee, worth doing if you have the mana.)
I have started to prioritize Icy Veins over Living Flame with this build however the best tech is to do both.
Gear swapping to gear with a different Rune on it while one rune is on CD is a fun, unique, SoD tech more people should be utilizing.
You probably know about this but you can use Icy Veins on one pair of pants then as soon as combat drops swap to your other pants with Living Flame on them. (Secret Mage tech Ice Block sometimes allows you to drop combat just as it ends. I don't wanna give away too much but this tech can be pretty OP in duels especially with Cold Snap when you can Block twice although you never need to lol)
Spriests could be doing the gear swapping tech with humuncs & shared pain but I never see any doing it. Could be useful in pve in between fights. I don't know of any other classes that have a CD for a rune? 🤔 but if you have one use it and swap it!

Although I do love RBGs I don't know if I will be playing cata not because I think it was a bad expansion at all but only because I am having so much fun in SoD.

I'm on Chaos Bolt Horde Undead Mage baby. Magerthanyou hmu if anyone wants to do some BGs (other Mages don't like my name but I'm friendly I promise 😂)
It feels a lot like Healing as a Priest with Flash Heal except Chrono is an even better version of Flash Heal because it heals for a LOT more, when it crits it's basically a Lay on Hands... That doesn't mean wait till your team mate is almost dead to heal them btw. I'd still not let them drop below half with how bursty the meta is.
Not to mention for those that don't know the special thing about the Chrono Heal is that you can cast it, then hold onto it and WAIT to release it at the right time... I'm telling you the things you can do with this spec is INSANE.
Any Healers out there feeling kinda stale I recommend trying this lol Icy Veins + Chrono Heal spamming puts out RIDICULOUS Healing.
And you can Blink around and Frost Nova, Ice block... can't do that on your priest.
People haven't seen it's potential yet because there's a lot of Mages out there making us look bad.
For Mages that don't know... always try to get away WITHOUT using blink before you use it. If you can do a quick Cone of Cold or Frost Nova to step aside and get a cast off (weather you're Healing with Chrono or casting up a big Frostfirebolt) do that before you try to blink. Save it as a last resort.
Try to Cone of Cold first, then Nova, then your Cone of Cold is back up, THEN you blink if you still need to escape. It's very important you use them in that order the way the CDs cycle.
As an FC you can do some flashy Ice Block, cancel Block, repick the flag if you see a big cast coming your way.
This class has potential.
The Living Flame nerf did not kill Mages.
Have to say i am out for Cata. Probably leveling 1-2 Characters from 1-60/85 and look in the Raid, but I am gonna play sod and the alpha 2 of AoC (coming quarter 3 of 2024). I cant play every game.
The staff damage doesn't cause atonement healing. Th legendary is not even close to bis for disc.
MOP TALENTS ARE ALSO BIS THOUGH. Class gameplay in MoP is one of the, if not "the" best it ever was/can be!

To be fair, I took one look at it when coming back for MoP and left right away. I never gave it a shot.
love listening SoD talk for the first hour of the PoD, literally had to check comments and title mutiple times to make sure it was a cata pod. Its very simple if you dont like cata go play slow ass SoD. Leave cata to the big boys.
That was my mistake. SoD has this little boy overly excited so its hard to not talk about it. Same reason Scotte brings up Cata every time we talk about SoD. I'm happy you're excited about it and hoping I end up liking it.
I am looking forward to Cata but I am concerned that it will be released and basically forgotten about by the dev team/company. 98% of their focus/love/passion is going to go into SoD & retail. Cata raids/dungeons are great until the end but some things will need to be updated, fixed, & expedited to pull this off. WotLk felt abandoned a couple weeks after ICC was launched. I'll check it out at launch but I am looking forward to something new like a real Classic+ or Ashes of Creation in a year or 2.
Honestly my friend, I think Cata Classic is going to be fine. It's just going to be different than people realize. Most of the Classic player base isn't going to mess with it past leveling up.
BUT! Thats ok. Cata Classic is the "Modern" players Classic 2019. Many of the current "Modern" players started in Cata or MoP. THIS is their Classic!
Just cause we aren't going to care too much doesn't mean it isn't going to be HUGE!

I think thats been the case a lot. It's just in SoD you can get all the rewards in easier ways than doing BGs.
I feel like cata is the best expansion ever. People always talk about cataclysm as the start of retail and the beginning of the end for world of warcraft. However, I believe that cat really is classic plus.

Got very bored of SOD fast. I just played too much vanilla and classic. Cata is perfect. It is not judge fairly at all. The beginning of the expansion is amazing. People started to hate it for the long stretch of last deathwing raid. Blizzard is gonna rush cata so that won’t be an issue.
I wanted them to do one classic per year. Keep switching it up.

Have you tried it? If you had, then you'd understand why. They aren't a scummy mobile game. They are a BADASS service that the majority of creators trust. You see all of them using it, on stream, day in and day out. To think that they would do that if it wasn't good... well that's just ignorant.
