- Exactly as it says, this is me just cruising with my 08 WRX with a built gearbox with PPGs by Andrewtech automotive. The wait was worth it but it was one hell of a wait to say the least.
"Holy shit it smells really good in my car cuz i got alot of mexican food."
sounded like south park

why no vape?
I know right, what in Seattle is this mess 😂
I was waiting for this comment 😂
I fuckin died 🤣🤣
Hey says from the future
Good point.
Oh, man, I bet the neighbours love you !
the neighbors are deaf by now lol
you cant hear it outside its to quiet u need to throw all huds and interior in the trash to hear the full engine and gears lol
My car sounds like this, and it doesn't even have straight cut gears!
Maybe if I wait long enough it grows a supercharger and four wheel drive.
I have a Peugeot 206 and it sounds like this (2001)
Me too Mini R50 haha
your diff might be fucked
It were the gearbox input shaft bearings, I no longer have the car. Unsurprisingly, it broke down lol.
My friend's Zil 130 had the same sound as bmw m3 GTR
1:15
Peter griffin shows up...
lol I wish I could do a Peter voice. Or Stewie haha
Straight cut gears refer to the gear not the style of trans. You are thinking of something like a dog box where they are synchroless. This a a stock trans with upgraded internals. It still requires the use of the clutch between shifts
Defeats the whole purpose by using stock trans. It’s for weight reduction
Not really with helical gears you have too lots of power loss due to axial load created by the shape of the gears and also same size straight cut gear will handle more power due to that.
@@kirilakmadjov8307 no actually straight cut gears handle less power than helical. Also the powerless is negligible, maybe 1%
@@gagesutton6194 right, thats why all race cars use it, because it makes funny noise then
@@kirilakmadjov8307 like I said they use them because the case doesn’t need to be as thick to compensate for the thrust of helical gears.
Hey guys he car smells good cuz he got Mexican food!
My toilet smells good everytime i take a dump after eating Mexican food.
that is the noise my dog makes when you don't give him a walk
truuuuuu
1:16 says something random lol
have to keep the audience guessing somehow. However I was on lunch and it smelled wonderful in my car lol
Sick sound that is, I was thinking of buying a WRX bubble headlights and building it up. Any advice or forums that may help? How is the car now?
Man I love transmission whine! But for a daily driver it might be a bit much. My invidia N1 street makes my music hard to hear at times… Couldn't imagine the combo!
Sweet wrx man
Yeah if I was ever gonna go straight cut it'd probably only be 1st-2nd. Anything more would be pretty ear rapey
nice video....was just curious what made you decide to pull off the perrin axleback....j.w because i have a invidia catless dp oredered and on way, along with perrin catback...hoping i get my moneys worth..thanks
Can you float shift easy with out a clutch like a big rig with that?
How much did it cost all together? I know the gearset itself is roughly $3-4k. How much did it cost to get it built by AndrewTech?
Man i love the sound of subies
How much does it cost to go from helicoïdal gears to straight cut gears?
still have this car? ever go bigger turbo? my trans has been fine with 390 tq, the clutch was done, just wanted to see any updates
6 speed manual correct? also how much did it cost?
Where did you get the sticker for the dash board?
Still love the sound?? I pulled mine out went with sti box, in my 500awkw 2011
why didn't he decompress the hand brake when he pulled it?
How much did you pay for the gears and the labor for install?
the comment above yours literally answers that question
Not sure any mostly stock Subaru necessitates a dogbox but AndrewTech is the right place to get anything worked on for your Subaru.
I blew 1st gear and decided to upgrade for when I do my build. But I agree, not for your average stocker
Totally off topic, but what that head unit ?
So you can get straight cut gears on a normal manual transmission
holy shit ..smells SO good in my car.. lol.. runs nice man!
Sounds great man
Thanks man
what header do you have?
How much cost for this upgrades ?
Yes and I figured I need a stronger trans for my build in the future and didn't want to do a 6 speed like everyone else
Im thinkin about gettin ppg's and live in the west coast too, why did u need to send it to the east coast tho?
I think I've seen you in Silverdale. Lmao. I saw a hatch like yours driving up Buckland Hill and I waved. I was in my 05 Rex. Sweet ride bro. Sounds legit. Your exhaust sounded nice too. Stay classy !
Yeah that was me and I waved back but sometimes it's hard to see through my windshield when it gets darker out since my windows are tinted.
yeah sorry, i thought all PPG gears went hand in hand with dogbox, but PPG is the company that make these gears right?
it was around 7k to send it off from the west coast to the east coast and about a 2 month wait because they had to order parts and the gears from Austrailia.
what shift knob is that?
So how much hp they hold?
Ecellent you built your car the right way! I have a question, how long did it take since you sent it out for Andrewtech to rebuild the transmission? In addition, if you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you? You have a synchromesh 1-4 straight cuts?
It took like 2 months because I live on the westcoast and there was a mix up and delay on parts. It was 7k in parts, labor and shipping. The gears alone are 4050 and are imported from Australia. I wouldn't recommend going to them unless you live near them
whats the point of having straight cut gears?
sweet
how did you get the seattle skyline on your dash?
never seen that before
a company called nwmotiv was making them a couple years back and I just put it on my cluster
...scrubs I see, a man of knowledge.
are you annoyed of the sound they make ? or do they not bother you?
daily driven Seattle slap? @tunedmachine
two houses, multiple keys for each, and three cars. Can't do much else about it unless I were to get multiple key chains which I hate doing
Thanks BRO I appreciate it! Sounds nice. GO PRO?
How much was your setup? Really really nice....
Hows this been working out for ya!?
did you have transmission whine before the straight cut? i'm asking this because i hear some "whine" when accelerating in my 8th gen civic si (not as loud as yours but it's there)
Some cars have a natural whine to them but no, there wasn't really any whine until I went to the straight cuts. Just like an RC car, the gears cause quite an audible whine
gotcha, i can't tell if the whine in my si is normal. i've searched through forums and found that people have had similar complaints. some say it's the transmission, bearings, belts or the differential, while other say it's normal. ugh so frustrating.. i have a feeling the dealer will say it's normal. have you ever driven an si or know of anyone that has one?
That looks very easy to drive slowly on the street with the dogs. How much harder than synchros would you say it is? So close to biting the bullet and getting a dogbox for my daily
+Boosted & Built Garage It is a still a syncho trans. Not a full dogbox. Drives just like it did before I put them in
dookie89 Oh my apologies, for some stupid reason I thought I read it as PPG dog box haha
+Boosted & Built Garage lol no worries.
5 speed STi Duracon shift knob. I think they sell them at the dealerships
It seems like you're shifting somewhat slow considering it's a dog box- is there something i'm missing? I thought you had to shift dog box/straight cut as fast as possible to avoid wearing out the dogs.
Not a dog box. Straight cut gears can be installed in a normal transmission.
Why not run a built sti trans for less dough and bot have to deal with the whine? Another question is why are you using your clutch after your roll out?
Because I was given the money it would have cost me to get a rebuilt trans since I was still under warranty, which was about $3500. So it cost me about $3500 out of pocket. I'm not sure what you mean by roll out? Do you mean as I'm driving? I put my foot on the dead pedal thing off to the side.
dookie89 He uses the clutch because it's a syncro not a dogbox. Watch when he shifts, there's that syncro detent.
William Stewart , Matthew Hume is correct.
Yes sir, I'll get right on that
is this with stock transmission mounts or aftermarket ones?
Stock.
Yes yes, very good sir :)
To get rid of the chance of blowing shit up while staying with the 5 speed
Have 1, 2 and 3 straight cut but 4th and 5th normal for silent cruising
Thumbs up for the lanyard-over-the-shifter trick
Yo brotha. If you're still around then I have a question.
How much did this cost? Thinking about doing this with a T-56 C5 Vette once I'm able to get one.
browse the comments. he disclosed the price fully
“Hey baby i hear the blues ‘a callin, tossed salads and scrambled eggs”
@bryce dabs there is a whole new exhaust on now, fully straight piped
I got it built by Andrewtech. I heard they were the shit. In retrospect, I would have rather bought the gears and had it put together by a local shop... I got part of it covered under warranty though so it's whatever
What is the beeping tune at the beginning when you start the car?
Diego Salazar Radar
cop radar
Nice bro!
what are you lowered on? i can tell the ride looks firm and bumpy lol
I'm actually on BC racing type BR extreme lows in this video but now I'm on Airlift Performance Autopilot v2 now
Straight cut gears sound so cool lol
In low rpm. Not in high rpm. There its just annoying af
What shop? This is my car? And I live near Kitsap County
Nice sound! =D
Thanks
Why so many dislikes? Can't wait to have mine built from my 2014. PPG Straight Cut, exact same setup as yours. How many miles have you put on it since the build?
Glass-Man-252 I think around 70k and it's still running strong!
the whine thooooooo holy hell o.O
Anti theft device?
Can someone explain how his technique is bad? I'm not really familiar with stick driving and all I know is that you can't shift without depressing the clutch, and you can't start the car in gear. From what I see I'm not hearing any clunking or anything odd.
Yamil Montes i think its a dogbox, so you clutch after first lol
I am getting my car back tomorrow, after over a month wait for the PPGears and other mods. I was wondering why you have a built trans, if your only running OTS maps? Did it blow on you? Mine did at 350whp. Also, Have you heard of "moore blast plates" apparently they are great way to keep your trans from failing again. Apparently the case can flex, causing failure, I am installing them. Thanks, nice car!
Pete Weisenbach The blast plates are to stop the gears from separating and then destroying themselves .... How did you get on with yours ?
I have this setup now, i made several videos also, The blast plates were installed when i had the gears done. so far so good, except first gear rattling everything in my car. It also seems a bit harder to drive smooth at slow speeds. these gears like being pushed hard for sure.
Pete Weisenbach the rattle in first and the inability to drive smoothly at low speed is normally down to wear or incorrect gear manufacture, however with SC gears it will never be as smooth as helical gears because of the method in which they mesh together.... there is more backlash with SC gears. listen to a British Classic Mini with SC gear set on tickover it sounds like somebody has exchanged the engine for a dozen boxes of bolts.... chatter is horrendous, but out on the road.... um ummmm :-)
I really want a straight cut manual damn
Sounds like our forklift at work.
Nice, Sounds like my Bike. Daily Driving seems good for trany repair/rebuild.. However you might be able to sell it too someone who wants a track car..
I think all the dislikes are from the drivers terrible clutch control.
It becomes much more difficult to shift smoothly without helical gears...
+xbe Well I'm fucking retarded and put in a stage 4 clutch Competition Clutch expecting to do some big motor build so yeah, it fucking sucks. But at least it's not a Miata
+dookie89 Miata is life bro. Stop hating. Start believing.
xbe Lol... no. Just no.
@@xbexbe miata is a bitch car you can't argue with that
that's a whole lot of keys you got there :P
i imagine youre in seattle due to the sticker? wheres this shop?
Are they still holding up ok for you and how much power is your WRX Making?
Grant Kahale yes and not much. I had so many plans but never got around to them. At this point, I'm waiting to rebuild my motor. If I do going more power, I'll probably try to do blast plates as well just to make sure. However, it drives just as well as the stock gearbox did
Grant Kahale go*
Ok sweet. thanks for that.
sounds cool, why did you do it?
Hey man wat deck is that? Looks clean!
It's the stock navigation. I converted all the output to RCAs so I could amp the outputs. The only thing you can see is the subwoofer in the back, all of my speakers (obviously), amps and the wire converter are hidden.
How does you 5 th gears ride cause mine i cant boost on it just to cruz ?
Iight...
+Brian Galvao 5th gear doesnt ride at all cause its a 4 speed...
+Mitchell Watkins No...No it's not. 😂 No car has been a 4 speed(manual) since the 80s. This is a 5 speed.
Is it just me or is the steering wheel exceptionally round? Like a little too round?🤔
That is the stock 08 wrx steering wheel?
@@dookie89 it's just so circular. But I'm also high.
@mcgoo721 fair enough haha. The newer models have a flat bottom aka the "d wheel"
Straight cut gears are nice but yet very annoying sound after awhile.
why straight cut?
cuz racecar bro
Not yet, it was my Droid RAZR MAXX with a windshield mount.
How much hp can this transmission hold now? Thing sounds awesome!
The gears are underrated for 600whp supposedly but hp isn't what breaks gears, it's torque. I can't remember off the top of my head how much torque they say it will hold. However, these gears are used in rally cars and race cars if that gives you any idea on the strength of the gears themselves
Can't say which is better, but PAR also has a gearset that's rated to 650hp.
PhillySportsPhan90 from what I was told, they are very similar so it's up to preference and pricing at that point
dookie89
What gear ratios did you get with the gearset?
You should think about an over view vid on your car!
0:15: What are those beeps? Car handsfree?
Radar detector turning on
@@dookie89 Well. OK. Knowing that I have a doubt. In Europe, the continent where I live, radar detectors have been banned for a long time. Around 2016, 2017. Do you know if this type of device is also prohibited in America? And not. It's not what it seems. It's not what you're thinking. I'm not sending a letter or anything like that. It's just to know.
@Emilio, El transportacoches well I got this at a local electronics store that is a huge chain across the US as well as other continents, I'm sure. That being said, I'm sure they are legal here in the state I live ina s long as you don't have a radar jammer. Anything that could impede a police investigation or traffic enforcement tool would be banned.
Is that the stock head unit?
yes
Does it have synchronizers
Yes
nvm i just assumed andrewtech automotive was a shop in the area but i figured it out haha anyways it sounds fuckin sick, exhaust and gears
my tpms sensor is broken too
Why would you put that big ass sticker on your gauge cluster.
Sounds like driving constantly in reverse
How much did it cost?
7k
What short throw do you have?
TWM
I installed the Kartboy Saturday, slight upgrade from the spt/sti short throw
Yeah. I'm kind of mad I went with the TWM. It feels very similiar to the spt one that was in there
The kartboy might be a waste of money, it's not much shorter, The overall shifter height is what makes it very convenient. since i like the stock shift knob (leather isn't as hot as metal in the summer) i can utilize the factory shift knob and it still sit pretty low
They are similar however a dog box, from my understanding, does not have synchros so you have to shift in a special way. The straight cut gears I have are just that, almost the same gear as stock, at least ratio wise, however instead of a diagonal cut, it is cut straight across which increases the strength and integrity of each tooth. They use the stock synchros however hold about the same amount of torque as a dog box. Look up PPGs or PPG/straight cuts vs dogbox
sweet
I love car noises especially in old cars, but why in a subie lol... Most of the subie owner i know drive them cuz you get performance and daily driver comfort and reliability and they usually have a loud, old, uncomfortable lightweight honda, toyota, datsun, or rotary in the garage haha
