Sun is close because of the sunrays.
So, if you put a straight stick at an angle inside a large glass of water and you look at it from the certain side, the stick is no longer straight.

In regards to the first guy:
He doesn't even get that his supposed "flat earth map" actually is a map of the globe - because projecting a 3D object on a 2D map causes distortion certain projections make more sense than others in certain situations.
The supposed "flat earth map" is the best projection of the globe when it is about polar and sub-polar regions because it causes close to none distortion there (and maximal distortion at the southern pole for which there are maps using the same projection if needed) - that's why the supposed "flat earth map" produces a flight path which is the same as on a spherical globe. Exactly what this projection is made for. Congratiulations, flathead - you found out that the map you have there represents the globe without actually figuring it out. Quite an achievement actually.

Also loved how he used an equatorial projection to show the 'globe map' flight path. Drawing a straight line across that and saying, "This would be the course on a globe earth" Why not draw the course on an actual globe instead of using a flat equatorial projection??? Because it would show he's wrong about the globe flight path of course.

The massive problem flat earthers have when it comes to maps, is a map of a flat earth would also be a plan of the flat earth.
As such, distances and directions could be taken straight from it. Most flat earthers know that and is why they carefully avoid the subject, usually claiming they don't need one.

Exactly! They are as dishonest cherry-pickers as creationists, accepting only the rare occasions when things superficially appear to work out, making up some pseudo-explanation for it while ignoring this supposed explanation to contradict their countless other pseudo-explanations for other instances, and rejecting everything which disproves their ideologically motivated fantasy.
You don't need to go to antartica or space to figure out that earth has to be spherical:
If the night sky doesn't satisfy you then go to the southern hemisphere and take sufficiently large distance measurements - you will find out that they conform to reality only if we a presuppose a globe, nothing else will work.
Or one could actually learn something and become a land surveyor.
One would discover that each sufficiently large triangle on earth's surface will have an angle sum of >180° which is only possible with a convex surface.
Or instead of burning money by hosting ideotic conventions they could rent a yacht and circumnavigate antartica while logging distance and/or speed - they would find that its circumference has to be much shorter than the equator, again utterly impossible on a flat earth.
There are so many ways to disprove a flat earth, not to speak about observable phenomena whose explanations make perfect sense as a whole, engaging like the gears in a gearbox - but what to expect of people who are denying even the results of their own experiments, as Bob "Fifteen Degrees" Nodel or Jeran "Interesting" Campanella.
There are only two types of people in the FE community - grifters and uneducated unstables with an utter lack of self-awareness at best and a full-on Delusion of Grandeur at worst.
How can somebody like LEO get called out of being wrong again and again - and again, without ever feeling embarassed enough to quit his bullshit?
What did he even try to say in the clip featured today? That modern maps would omit a quite massive island just for the lulz or something, and he of all people figured it out?
No fisherman from the Shetlands or Faroe Islands ever noticed the uncharted lands in his fishing grounds?
All the seafarers and even countless tourists who travelled through the northern atlantic on board of cruise ships coincidentally looked in the wrong direction when passing "Friesland"? 🤣

I just don't get LEO's logic. He keeps saying "I'm not making any claims, I'm just calling for exploration" and then he complains that the mysterious island disappeared from all modern maps. Why do you think that is LEO? Because we did the exact thing that you called for! We explored! We went to the place on the map and we found out that there is no island there. So removed it from the map. It's as simple as that. The people in the 15th century were just like you, they saw the island on the map and wanted to check it out. They found out it's not there, so they removed it from the map. You however, keep sitting on your maps and despite saying otherwise, you're just making claims. How about you get on a boat and using this 15th century map, you go find Frisland? If you're calling out for exploration, just go exploring then!

Notice the shape around the edge around that old map. It isn't a single circle, but it has rounded triangles between every longitudinal line, almost as if the mapper knew that they were making a rough representation of a sphere whilst drawing it. Furthermore, look at other maps of the time such as Typus Orbis Terrarum by Ortelius. Not only is another representation of a globe (this time an oval projection), but it also shows how badly understood the large oceans and their islands were, probably because there was no reliable way to judge the actual location of the islands. Look at how badly off Japan is on the Ortelius map as an easy example. It also seems to be completely missing Korea. Unless Korea is a globe lie like Australia.

Isn't it a coincidence, that, even though it's still wrong, flat earthers always want to discuss this particular route!
If the earth was actually flat, all routes would back their claim!

They usually are pretty silent on southern flights. Since years they even deny they exist (Mark Sargent). Like Sydney to Santiago. One the 27th, 2222 dollar.

Flight time Melbourne to Perth (Australia) direct is 4 hours 15 minutes, while flight time Perth to Melbourne direct is 3 hours 25 minutes. I asked a pilot why this is the case, when both planes are traveling the same distance at the same air speed, and they explained the reason for this is they have to account for the rotation of the earth.

3:46 So according to this map, Australia appears to be nearly the same size as Russia and far bigger than the USA. Having driven Sydney - Perth I can say this country is big, but not that big

Things do disappear from maps. Years ago me and a mate followed the Wainwright Coast to Coast roiute. One day, we got a little confused about our progress as the forest we were aiming to enter looked further away than it should. Then we heard the chainsaws,... it was managed woodland, and they'd harvested a fair bit of it. Water courses change route, lakes dry up. Maps need updating, this is not news.

I always find the crepuscular ray "argument" funny because they never actually consider the full implications. IF it really showed that the Sun was close then it would also be showing that locations just a few miles apart would be looking in completely different directions towards the Sun. Except that clearly doesn't happen. Just yet another example of flerfs showing they don't understand their own argument.

Why do flat earthers always use flat maps when trying to debunk the globe?
I guess it's because if they used a globe their demonstration wouldn't work.
Get a globe anchor a bit of string at the departure point then, keeping the string tight, anchor it at the destination point. You end up with the shortest route between the two points. Easy.

Alternatively, you could just rotate the globe in any direction you want so that you end up with your departure point and your destination point to both sit on what would now be the equator. You'll get the same result.

@@andystokes8702 true, but I like Bush Master Flash's method because it will give them the feeling of seeing a real experiment with the added bonus of 'magic' as you pull the string taught.

The Isle of sodor has been removed from modern maps too, aswell as numenor when it was taken by the sea.
