I immediately knew it was him because of those cargo shorts, he sounds a little sad in his tone, and when he said "I've had multiple jobs". People who fall into conspiracies start off in a vulnerable state in their life depressed looking for something to believe in. Its honestly sad, I feel bad for these people.
@llux Thanks for that. In my experience, some of the most interesting revelations are made while considering what appear to be ridiculous ideas. Even if I wholly disagree and can find no rationalization, it always leads me to a new revelation. That being said, I also talk too much! 😅
I feel so bad for George. He literally got voted out for saying it’s important that you keep an open mind, and used the greatest possible example in Einstein.
Thank you for noticing. Few seem to realize that most of the great scientific ideas were from outliers (including Einstein, Tesla, and Faraday) or the result of decades of debate and research. Even the scientific community doesn't simply recognize an improved theory and instantly accepts it, and there will never be a theory that cannot be improved on or eventually found to be inaccurate.
george literally had been such a chill vibe in all his videos, like he has such an open and accepting mind and seems like he would be really fun to just have philosophical chats with
@@epicenter16 I largely agree, but it is important to doubt and test everything in science as long as the willingness to be proven wrong is present. After all, Einstein proved gravity is not real and a side effect of time dilation which is a concept unknown to the world prior. That people still speak of gravity as an extant attractive force is denial of truth proven 100 years ago! Yet there is an entire field of research based on the "unfounded hypotheses" of gravitons and characterizing gravitational force which goes against these stablished truths. 🤷♂
@@WhetScience What you said is not correct. Einstein proved gravity is not a force but a curvature of spacetime caused by mass and energy and this curvature affects the motion of objects, leading them to follow curved paths. His hypotheses is heavily founded though, unlike flat earthers who cannot even do elementary level math, let a lone a scientific experiment. The ones that do, then find evidence that doesn't support a flat earth, which they negate.
He believes it because he doesn't want to admit he's wrong, that's literally true for every flat earther. There is so much evidence the earth is not flat and NO EVIDENCE the earth is flat. They say "pictures of a round earth are photoshopped" meanwhile they don't have a single photograph of a flat earth, they're all DRAWN plus they're all illustrated DIFFERENTLY, they can't even agree on the same idea of what a flat earth would be, they illustrate countries being in completely illogical places, like we have planes you know? We can visually see where countries are on the earth. They are hypocrites. It's so incredibly simple to prove it too, without even thinking, travel in one direction and you'll return to where you started. But not a single one wants to do this. There's a documentary from a few years ago where flat earthers use a lazer to prove the earth is flat, it proves the earth is not flat and you know what they do? They admit they were wrong. LOL NOT, they say they must have made an error in the testing. Also the "travel in one direction" thing I mentioned earlier, a guy in the documentary said he's got the funding to do it, it's been multiple years since the doco and guess how long it took him to the do the trip around the world? Oh he didn't, because he knows it'll prove him wrong and my first point in this comment was they don't want to admit they're wrong, so they're obviously not gonna do a test that they cannot lie themselves out of when it prove the earth is not flat.
As someone who dipped my toes into those ideas, I think it's 80% distrust for the government and 20% distrust for scientific hubris. A very large amount of what we consider to be 'facts' about space comes from people that are not credible or trustworthy. A common theme is that there is something either in space or "beneath Antarctica" which is so valuable or powerful that the government misrepresented space in order to access it. Another is that aliens project space onto a dome or bubble around us. I came around to the idea because while pursuing my degree, I learned that a lot of concepts about space that are accepted as fact are based entirely on mathematics that can't be tested or verified. I also learned that a lot of the things we consider to be 'tested and verified' are actually very inconsistent in observations. My go to example is that we accept it as a fact that the speed of light is a constant. and all of our measurements of the distance to and composition of objects in space rely on the assumption that the speed of light is a constant. Yet in reality, every single test that has ever attempted to measure the speed of light had yielded a distinct and different value. We have actually never performed two tests which yielded the same value EVER. If we were to accept that the speed of light in a vacuum is NOT constant (which should be obvious when we know that gravitational forces bend light) then we would have to accept that every single time weve ever measured the distance to anything in space, the values are almost definitely wrong. Point being, when you don't trust them to actually know, and you don't trust them to be honest with what they do know, it leaves a lot of room for whatever idea someone throws at you that they can make sound credible. I am skeptical and rational and it didnt take me too long to realize they dont have any credible evidence, so I dont believe the Earth is flat, but I also don't believe that the vast majority of information we are taught about space is accurate or true.

the reason why i think it was reasonable to vote him out is that he as the only one wanted to end the game. obviously he just believed the mole was out (i did too), but that could be also a hint that he is the mole. it was very unfortunate how the dice fell for him, but in the end there is no real evidence who is the mole.

@@erikaalexx2372I'm not a flat earther, but I know the flat earth model very well. It has answers to what causes all of our natural phenoma, but as soon as you dive into how those things work, their model is just faith based. One classic is their explanation of gravity, I've heard too explanations from flat eathers on this, 1) that the earth disc is simply moving upward and our own momentum is the gravity we feel. This falls apart because the earth disc would need to be accelerating at 9.8m/s/s which means it would be going well beyond the speed of light by now. The other i that its merely buoyancy, that we are sinking in the atmosphere, which is technically true tbf, but this fails when you explain that materials of different densities do absolutely separate, but the heavier one going down is due to gravity. So I then ask, "yes we are more dense than air, but what makes us separate downward toward the earth? if its just buoyancy without gravity, we could all settle to the side, not down" then they just shrug their shoulders because at the end of the day flat earth iis just religious faith in a new package.
I completely agree with George. You have to keep an open mind to everything you can’t just assume something is wrong without proving it first. I remember learning in science class that is exactly what scientists do.
Thank you for your kind and insightful words. Science must be a continuous process of doubt and validation. As we make new discoveries and more refined observations, we always need to be open to the idea of finding the next more true theory even if we must admit we were mistaken previously. Even the most outlandish idea may lead, even if indirectly, to a new discovery. But as for the geometry of this or any other planet, a sphere for sure. It's hard to even think of an angle where any other topology is valid. 😅

@@mikepictor Exactly. As in majority of the human population and the "norm". Flat earthers are the ones that should be distinguished because they're going against the norm.
"Common knowledge" is not scientifically sound. The times in history when "common knowledge" was turned on its head by a maverick are uncountable. There are hundreds of citable examples and even Einstein faced a hundred scientists who opposed his Theory of Relativity. They all signed a letter challenging his beliefs and presented him with it. "Why a hundred?", Einstein reportedly asked, "If I am wrong, one would do." And no, I am not a flat earther but that is because I have actually investigated the proofs of a round earth and found the "globist" argument to be sound. I cannot say the same for a few other widely-believed "truths".
The elementary education explains in exact detail the way the earth is round? It’s funny we all believe to be some expert because our fourth grade teacher told us and we got no follow up. But sure, that elementary education really solidified the hard facts for you and now you can so easily explain why it’s round that no flat earther should exist!

Einstein did not use Minkowski spacetime to create his theory of special relativity. He treated time as a separate entity from spatial dimensions. The spacetime model was proposed several years after he published. Although spacetime is the most popular conceptual tool for describing relativity, it has been largely incompatible with quantum mechanics which emerged decades later. And the recent LIGO interferometer observations have shown a surprising lack of the distortion one would expect to see if gravity waves were traveling through warped space. In short, utilization or "belief" in relativity is not dependent on a literalization of the spacetime manifold model. Feel free to follow my link in the video description (George) if you want to know more.

All I'm saying is, people go around taking for granted the truths of what their teachers and textbooks tell them. In economics, this is a disaster for society that cannot be gone into here. But for instance, the fact our money is managed by a privately owned entity disguised as a government agency ought to give one a decent indication of the 'disaster' I'm referring to. This goes for physical sciences too. Again and again I've seen examples and arguments (indeed entire books) speaking to the lack of objective science being conducted. I'm writing this at 09:50 while George is saying that he thinks SPACE is flat, etc. Which is something I have very recently been very curious about. I believe Earth is round, just as the rest of the planets. BUT, if you do research on space, it's a bit of a different concept. Scientists are not 100% sure if space is flat or curved. But they think that if space is flat, it will be infinite & go on & on & on & on forever. But, if space is curved, it just gives the resemblance of going on & on & on & on forever but really doesn't. My thoughts.. If space is curved, that means there is something beyond space. What could it be? But if it's flat, how can something just continue and NEVER END. Space is something the mind cannot even comprehend.
If space is curved that does not necessarily imply the existence of something “outside” of space. If space is all there is, then there is no “outside” of space. It’s like saying there’s something outside of existence itself. It’s impossible. Everything that exists, is in space.
Though, this applies to our physical dimension, perhaps outside of “existence” there is a different dimension that is non-physical awaiting. Based on how fast space is expanding, it’s futile to even think about reaching the end of space. Perhaps tearing a hole in the fabric is the way “out” instead of trying to go past the end.
Thank you for that @3AmandaR1017. What few realize is that Newton's theories for the universe worked for everything until our observations showed cases that it didn't a hundred years later. Then, Einstein's relativity worked for everything, except 100 years later we have many observations that don't quite fit the model. I don't question the math, and I agree with Einstein's own explanation of the "fictional force" of gravity. However, with another 100 years of observations since and the difficulty with resolving it to quantum mechanic theory, we should be open to consider what the next more inclusive model will be. 🤔
I strongly believe I was a much smarter person senior year in high school than I am now. You are constantly being challenged by your teachers, you're constantly critically thinking and training your brain. After high school, it's all about learning how to be an adult, taking care of yourself, and how to survive in society which doesn't take much brain power. When you stop working your brain and critically thinking, it goes downhill from there. It's like working out your muscles. If you don't train them, they shrink. Here's the thing, no matter how fundamental we may consider a scientific statement to be, people should be able to freely be skeptical of it and challenge it to come so that the discussion strengthen our understanding even more.
That is the ONLY way we make scientific progress. Most of the most progressive scientific theories in history were written by outliers. Faraday, Tesla, Einstein, all of them struggled to gain the respect of their peers.
Outside of his beliefs, I think his point has importance that is often overlooked - that we ARE taught a lot of things as facts, where in reality we're learning just about our current level of understanding. Historically, there were wild swings in levels of understanding of natural or scientific phenomena, where "facts" would change completely - on top of that, there definitely is a bit of an entrenched elitist attitude in the science community that sets a non-insignificant hurdle to individuals' "question everything" approach and "free thinking". While I absolutely ridicule groups like flat-earthers, I do think we would benefit from emphasizing to our kids that what we're teaching them is just the current way we see and understand things and there's surely more to them, still to be discovered - even in "basic" topics, such as gravity, or cellular structure. There still WAAAAY to go to deepen our understanding of nature and universe, and we should encourage kids to be open about it and explorative - HOW to think, like he says - although I can't grasp how you can apply analytical thinking and believe in the flat Earth...Oh well...

I think philosophy is interesting when unraveling undiscovered truth's, not unrooting established truth with wacky unfounded hypothesis.
I wish we heard more of his reasoning behind why he believed that
He believes it because he doesn't want to admit he's wrong, that's literally true for every flat earther.
Same!
Because his crazy fiance says so.
There's no reasoning

I love the comment that the flat Earther made at the end of video about how people hate when someone believes something different. Perfectly sums up how the world works, even shown in this comment section. Even if what he is saying is may be false, keeping an open mind to all possibilities is a way to seek truth while having calm rational discussions without negativity.
Everything should be considered with an open mind, but once overwhelming evidence is presented, then an understanding can be formed, and those who willfully reject any evidence should be treated like the idiots they are in that topic (but respectfully as fellow humans of course)
@@zildjiandrummer1 My field of academic expertise is economics. The mainstream consensus is entirely in error. Notice, members of the mainstream say the EXACT same thing as you do.
@@seankennedy4284 Economics is messy and inherently deals with humans and game theory, while many sciences have repeatable, predictable, and verifiable experiments. Not sure what your point is but if 99% of experts agree on something, and if I agree with the methods and process they use to get there, then that's what it is. Just stop taking so many things for granted.
Each idea must stand or fall on its own merits, unfortunately. I say unfortunately, because it takes some amount of expertise to know whether a given idea, with a field of pursuit, is valid or potentially so.
But it goes MUCh further than that.
So if it can happen in econ, it can (and, importantly, WILL) happen in other fields, too. Simply to serve the interests of whoever runs the show in those fields.
And I've seen enough critique of the conduct of academic science to know that, yes, it too, is VERY far from the scientific ideal of disinterested and objective truth seekers.
@@zildjiandrummer1 My first reply got blocked by the powers that be. Basically, stop taking for granted everything you're taught in school. The problem in econ imposes MASSIVE wealth transfers, from the populace at large to those running the show behind the scenes at the top. And if it can happen in econ (where $$ incentives dictate people --- and more of them --- will seek truth more diligently than otherwise) it can and will happen elsewhere. This goes for physical sciences too. Again and again I've seen examples and arguments (indeed entire books) speaking to the lack of objective science being conducted. I'm not saying THEREFORE everything must be thrown out, I'm saying take nothing for granted. Each idea must be examined in and of itself. Painstaking and slow, but necessary.
The universe is flat though. It bends, but it’s still flat.

To me, it feels like a psychological thing where a part of you feels validated to be supporting something that is a minority.
It's reactance. He said it himself, that he feels like everyone is indoctrinating him, but this he discovered for himself. Space is something the mind cannot even comprehend.
tbh that is interesting but he fucked himself with that
If space is curved that does not necessarily imply the existence of something “outside” of space.
It took Voyager 2 over 45 years to reach the edge of our solar system it is now in interstellar space.

100%. Bless him, but definitely exuding some subtle - and unwarranted - arrogance throughout, that lad.
So yes I believe these younger people are more educated than us older people because their priorities are education.
We just have more wisdom than younger people because we have more experience than them..
@@lalobarron5881 _"how to survive in society which doesn't take much brain power"_
As a student, one is insulated from the real world, cloistered on a college campus. Your academic curricula are (largely) chosen by others. Even your meals are prepared for you. You must make very few impactful life decisions. In the non-academic world, on the other hand, this changes entirely and one is now exposed to myriad decisions and decision-trees.
tbf he said more “educated” not smarter, wiser, or more intelligent, which just makes sense as younger generations of Americans are statistically more likely to attend college than their parent’s generation.

Here's the thing, no matter how fundamental we may consider a scientific statement to be, people should be able to freely be skeptical of it and challenge it to come so that the discussion strengthen our understanding even more.

facts bc minority would be majority in that cade
Agreed. My problem is getting any flat earther to understand how to argue like an adult in the first place.
If you "absolutely ridicule flat earthers" then you're exactly part of the problem.

All scientific progress is a combination of free thinking (imagination) combined with the ability to rationalize if it is possible. Unimaginative rationalization is no better than ants following their repetitious designs. Irrational free thinking at best can create an aesthetic but is scientifically fruitless.

Of course, even when considering new ideas, they still need to match observations.
But even if an idea is wacky and seemly cannot be rationalized, even that exercise compels us to look at our preferred theories in a different way and can lead to deeper understanding, confirmation, or even reveal hidden deficiencies.
