Have you checked out the Beginner Conversational Course on my website yet? It takes about 6 months to complete, studying about 30 minutes a day, and takes you to basic conversational fluency. Of all the Chinese teaching material around, the two most valuable pieces are this video and the one that follows, about pronouncing all that zi, si, chi stuff.
    The most important single thing anybody can do in the course of using a foreign language is to display respect for the other guy. Carelessly mangling their language is an instant and awful display of disrespect and stupidity -- and right away puts the other person into a zone of cheerful, friendly-looking self-defence, isolation, and avoidance from you. You create your own bubble.
    You/we don't have to master other languages. Indeed, if we are not children is is very likely for us to be impossible to do so. We can, however, make a sincere, respsctful, and effective attempt.
    The most effective way of doing this, and of showing that you are doing this, is to take the elementary steps of working on our pronunciation
    These two excellent videos, less than an hour between them, are the best step anyone can take in that direction, imho. I re-work these two videos monthly, and I recommend you do too.
    And Yangyang, thanks, and congratulations, for your intelligent, competently produced, cheerful and attactive work!

      +David Lloyd-Jones Wow! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with other learners! So happy to be a part of your Chinese learning routine. And you're right! It's great to associate Chinese tones with the English words you natural say with the same 'tone'... it really is that easy! Tones are really about the relative motion in your natural speaking range, so you don't need to be a singer or have an expressive voice to pronounce Mandarin correctly.

    The way you say 'What did you have for lunch yesterday' is so cute. But that's not how Americans ask. Just the answer "Uh' is in low tone. Loving your lessons though.

    Hello Teacher,
    There are two different groups of Chinese:
    - Group 1: Simplified Chinese (Typing Pinyin): I think it is easier.
    - Group 2: Traditional Chinese (Typing bo, po, mo,...). I have not tried typing this yet.
    I would like to "Test Of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) ( Taiwan's national standardized test )" in the future in order to find part time job in woking for company in Taiwan.
    Which group is popular and more suitable for me to start from scratch?
    I am so thankful for your advice.

    • @YoyoChinese
      @YoyoChinese  5 років тому +1

      Pinyin and bopomofo are both systems for pronunciation, not for writing. We use pinyin to help our students learn pronunciation, because it's a little easier for non-native speakers to learn. Traditional characters and simplified characters are related to the writing system. Depending on your interest and where you live, you may choose to learn either traditional or simplified. But for most students we recommend first learning simplified characters, and then it's easier to make the transition to traditional characters if you are interested.
