I've NEVER watched anything on laserdisc, but I do remember their initial appearance back in the day.
In the UK everybody just went the VHS route even though early VHS recorders and VHS films weren't cheap to buy, so most peeps just rented.

Oh man I've got a pretty decent laserdisc collection myself and this video may have prompted me to show it off a bit. I finally scored my Pioneer player at Goodwill for 10 bucks.

Wow, what a strange coincidence I had a collection and a laserdisc player. I enjoyed collecting them and watching but when I moved and got married... I had to sell unfortunately for lack of
space. Were great when I did own them. Surprised to know that people still collect. You have quite the nice collection. It cost me a small fortune and I sold for not much.....
Do you still play them. I found the sound and clarity of the movies incredible. I did have some good titles, Jurassic Park, Once Upon a Time in America, some music ones as well....

Nice laserdisc collection!! Used to have hundreds myself, back in the day. Sold most of them as each title was re-released on DVD. Just a few left now. Mostly music related: a few Prince LDs, Beatles, and a Clark Gable box set that I just love. After Bogart, Gable is probably my second-favorite classic Hollywood actor. Fun video! Thanks for sharing. Like most people I never got into this format. I do see the disk at thrift stores from time to time. I am a fan of classic cinema and independent films.
Well , 2 movies really stuck out for me. The Verdict with Paul Newman & the beautiful Charlotte Rampling is 4 🌟. It was made in 1982 , you're screen said 1946 ( Dating It ! ) Of course , I love Apocalypse Now , because " I love the smell of napalm in the morning , it smells like ... Victory ! " Remember , " Charlie Don't Surf ! " 🏄

If you haven't watched it, "How to Make an American Quilt" is wonderful.
I always wanted to have a player. I found one at an estate auction a few years ago for 5 bucks but when I brought it home it didn't work right. I will have to keep and eye out for another one. It's too bad that they couldn't make them cheaper domestically like you said. My parents had a player but the actual movies were way to expensive to buy but there was a convenience store nearby that rented laserdiscs and so my parents would go there. Cheers Karl.
Great video Guru! Laserdisc Guru!!! I've got about 11 laserdiscs. 4 Bruce Springsteen titles. Arnold in T2. Ed Wood (Johnny Depp). Joe Jackson Big World. Raiders of the last ark. Ricky Ricardo/Desi Arnas laserdisc. Back to the future and a Star Trek movie one of the later ones with Capn' Kirk. I've got a 5 cd carousel/laserdisc player. Pioneer. You have quite the movie collection yourself, a refined collection, like your records. I was thinking while watching, I've seen this movie in the theatre, I've seen that film. Take care, George
Nice collection. I think your tastes run closer to my late mother's than mine. I was still waiting for sci-fi section. :P My mother loved Denzel. If I needed to get her a gift and I knew that there were Denzel movies that she didn't have, my struggle was over.
You got some killer 80s and 90s titles. I no longer collect movies because of streaming. I do have a bunch of DVDs somewhere. I may start working on getting like Criterion Collection copies of my faves.

I like my movies dark. All my music used to be really dark and heavy themed.
I had hundreds...threw em away because of rot. I kept a few because of some of the nice packaging or if they were Beatles' related.
Christina, interesting to see all of those titles. I don't have any. The couple of anime type discs looked good, and I didn't know that all that classical music had been issued that way, but it makes sense. A Cute sack to end part 3, sneaky. Thanks, Chris

We never had laser discs when I was growing up, they were too expensive, but we did have CED's...movies on vinyl, which also looked better than VHS. My favorites that we had on CED were the late 70s Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies...I wish they would release them on blu-ray. I also love the Bond movies...have since I was a kid. I bought the full Blu-ray set, definitely worth the price if you're a fan. When I first got to Japan in 97 laser discs were still pretty popular, but within a year or two DVDs took over and they disappeared completely.

The grass roots said it best: live for today. I remember when the battle raged between laser disc and vhs. Much like the cola wars. Thrift store by my house has had the movie Joe on laser disc for eons. Weird movie. Cult classic. First movie for Susan Sarandon. Blue Steel is underrated. As is Jamie Lee Curtis. DYK Kurt Russell played minor league baseball? Great documentary on Netflix called Glorious Bastards of Baseball about Kurt and his Dad. Banquo is the real hero of MacBeth. Murder was the case. Nice snoop dogg reference. Ellen Barkin was great in switched. Saw that in a tiny theater in kirch goens germany. She was great in Buckaroo Banzai as well. Wayne’s world? Party on guru. Apocalypse now? Never get off the boat.

Hell yeah ! Some more movie related content. Love it ! I wanted to get into the Laserdisc game myself but watching AVGN and Techmoan, i came to the conclusion that Laserdiscs are not for me. While i think it's some fascinating technology and i absolutely love the idea of the packaging, it's a super inconvenient format because flipping discs inbetween movies sucks. The worst part about it though is it's analog medium. With the added visual aspect, i can only assume the outcome of a worn or scratched Laserdisc.
CED Videodiscs are vinyl records, they look like laserdiscs but are played with a diamond tip need/stylus, do you have any of those?

Laserdiscs sold pretty much next to none here in the UK, we all just went from VHS to DVD in the late 90s/early 00s. The big sleeves for LD pitch my tent in a vinyl record type way though
