A cool note for anyone interested: There is a full Virtual Boy emulator for standalone quest that has some great features that make the games extremely playable. Change the colors from black and red to black and whatever color you'd like (I personally like a light cyan) and give the library a whirl!
You should make a video on EmuVR. Currently in Beta but the experience is fantastic. It allows you to play in a virtual room on virtual CRT TV's. It takes full advantage of the medium and is a real nostalgia trip.
Thank you so much for mentioning this. I since then installed and configured it to my PC and about to play it with my Quest 2 via Airlink. This brings back so much nostalgia even though I grew up far from owning this many consoles haha
I feel like the most interesting emulator to use with the Quest is exactly the one missing in this video. There is a Virtual Boy emulator that runs great and is very close to the real thing (for better or worse)
I understand where you are comming from, but that would be like saying it can emulate gameboy games, which is obvious. ETA never covers the obvious and tries to show how far you can take the system. I would love to see custom plugins for the quest though, which render the output stereoscopic. That shouldn't be impossible to do. Full 360 would be even better, but I doubt you can do this on most, if any systems as the system you emulate ignores all objects out of view to improve speed.
I also really like gamebov that puts a customizable gameboy or game boy color in you hand and you may have limited options but it’s to “emulate “ having a console in your hand like before lol
There's a fork of Dolphin for PCVR that attempted this. Rather than playing looking at a big window though, it actually renders the scene as a virtural environment. Unfortunately it's very glitchy and hasn't been updated since 2016 I think. But yeah, that is literally the only thing I want on my quest . It's like it was meant to be.
as far as i know, regular android apps don't have acces to the controllers' motion input, sou they'd have to make a vr version of dolphin just for the quest.
I wonder how much better performance could be had if home were turned off. I'd image rendering the home background takes a little bit of CPU/GPU power.
@daviddurako4604 I wish someone would answer this. This is the only way I've played it and I'm wondering if that's why I'm having so many problems with my games
For your next video, can you talk about the experience of playing console/non-vr titles on the headset? Does it FEEL like playing the regular games as they do on a TV? How about using the controllers? Can a Bluetooth controller be connected to the Quest 2?
It looks like watching a very large screen tv... nothing has depth.. I use a BT android controller as the quest 2 native controllers don't work on any emulator I've tried..If you want that real feel arcade experience the closest you're going to get is EMUVR on PC.. that allows you to use quest 2 controllers. Still not as fun as a 20+ yr old piece of software called 3DArcade.. that definitely should be the way forward for any virtual arcade imo.

I really like using Bigscreen+Launchbox/Bigbox on my VR setup. That way I can invite friends to watch the stream.
I wish there was a wii emulator that you can use the vr controllers as the nunchuck and wiimote for motion games
You might want to try to run stuff with the cpu level at max (level 4 i think) and see what it does maxed out. It's in the Sidequest program somewhere or you could use adb commands.
Hello ETA Prime I was wondering 🤔 if you could create a video on the psp and how it preforms with Snes, Gba, N64, and other emulators loaded onto it in 2022. They are also fairly easy and cheap to get ahold of.
Havent had time to try it myself yet, but Launchbox for android would be interesting.... and a amazing way to bring it all together.
You forgot about the most important emulator, The Virtual Boy Emulator, to have a real vr headset display virtual boy games is amazing.
There's a Virtual boy emulator just for the headset. It works great!
How is the streaming experience using Virtual Desktop? I suspect better performance, but with some input lag.
This seems to be a given, but you have to show Virtual Boy emulation on the Quest 2. I've tired it myself and it's pretty fun.
Cheers ETA, interesting stuff, feel free to do a bit more. :)
Great vid brotha
I'm surprised it could even handle PS2 and GC emulation.
HUH, a device I actually have. Never thought of using my Quest for this of all things.
Are they in 3D or flat?
Really looking forward to trying Shenmue/Yakuza and just spending all day at their arcades.
This makes me SO motion sick.
I used to use EmuVR on my Rift until I swapped it out for a Quest. It doesn't run natively so would have to be run over Link, but I would imagine it works fine... from memory it just uses Retroarch but the whole 80s bedroom, CRT TVs and 'physically' inserting the carts into the console in VR was pretty cool. I'll have to boot it up again actually.
It kinda mimics an old bedroom
Why did I thought that emulators in vr will put you on a free cam mode or first person mode lol, I really expected that and waiting for any map of the game just pop up around you
It's like an emulation within an emulation
Very entertaining videos. I love them.
None of the games are rendered stereoscopic I'm assuming, right?
Emulation should become a mandatory acceptance to experience older content
