I’m a bit surprised, but not much, as some minor tech advances can have a major impact on the effectiveness of a combat aircraft, and specially the F-22 and YF-23 were basic build around their components, and from what I’ve learned this meant only upgrades with the same footprint, or smaller, could be installed on the aircraft, so say they came up with a more powerful engine, and a better air to air radar, but each slightly larger than they ones used on the F-22, as I understand it, they wouldn’t be able to be installed as it lacks the space.
This on it like skin tight jeans, if you loose weight you can still fit in them, but let’s say you work out on your legs, and lose a bit of weight, but your thighs and calf’s put on an inch in diameter suddenly the skinny jeans won’t fit, despite weighing less now, because the area for the calf’s and thighs are not big enough for your larger legs.

How much do you think the debacle with the Chinese spying on the F35 design process contributed to a huge increase in secrecy over this system's design process? I get the feeling this project is longer in the making than we understand. I'd imagine new technologies and processes have been in the works since the F22 deliveries began, from the air force themselves and hopeful contractors.

Back in the seventies/eighties I used to listen to air traffic on my multiband radio. One day a pilot in a civilian single engine called ATC: "Monterey, what the heck was that that just went past me? It seemed to be traveling at a thousand miles and hour." The ATC replied, "We're not painting any other aircraft in your vicinity." Years later the public learned about U.S. stealth aircraft. And about a decade after that I put 2 and 2 together and concluded that civilian pilot saw one of our stealth planes flying in non-military airspace. There will always be things the public doesn't know.

      @josephgallo5170 2 роки тому +2

@@sabrevanson4412 don’t forget that the us has beeeeennn working on big Bertha and is currently working on the b-21. Most technologies specifically military technologies pull from other projects and failed prototypes. Wether that’s from failed proposals or competitions that we didn’t really hear about. Based on us aircraft development you could be right that the project “started” before the one year mark., but was tucked away and modernized. That happened with the F-22, F-18, and f-16 to name a few.
With that being said as an engineer who uses cad softwares, I’m telling you right now, if you have enough engineers and powerful enough computers you could design one in a couple weeks. Speaking to its flight systems I’m not sure. But it is extremely possible if you add in the most technologically challenging pieces of an aircraft are usually purchased and already in production, such as the radar, engines, and weapons. Another thing is that the way calculus works, and throw in possible far ahead technologies they maybe using, it’s entirely possible that they’ve coded a program that auto generates how the external body is shaped, which would be one of the major sticking points.

"Designed, built, and flown within a year" means the aircraft almost certainly has the same engine, flight computer, and probably radar as the F35/,22. It's probably testing the airframe, and little else.
May also have thrust vectoring, as it will need that if it is indeed a flying wing (for maneuverability), which is even more reason to start testing the airframe early.

I could see the shape of it and the outlines of the vehicle itself but it blended in to the sky above it as if it were active camouflage, if i wasn't looking up i wouldn't of noticed it because as it passed by it made no sound. this was Sunday morning at 6 am and a plane had just crossed the sky from one horizon to the other without a whisper, that was creepy, what was even creepier was that it had crossed the sky in about 5 seconds. It was quick, real quick, i didnt have a chance to pull out my phone i was just in awe of the speed and how it almost perfectly blended into the background of the sky....almost.

Basically a greatly upgraded YF-23 with drone & piloted versions ( no mini drone version --range & weapons load have to be the same). Vert stabs are down (and other 'silent' modes engaged) to maximize stealth as they approach enemy air.... whose formations/plans are in disarray from a volley of long-range-A/A missiles coming down on them fired by the F-15EX 'Missile Trucks' above and behind the ADF's. At the merge they convert to a maximum-maneuver-mode while the drones press-on to engage any re-enforcements showing up in a programmed 'set' piece of airspace.

I think we need something like a scaled-down, more stealthy, faster B-1 that is armed to the teeth - kind of like an oversized fighter that, in a pinch, can get down and defend itself in A2A combat.

@@MississippiKid96 I knew about the F-22 before 2010. In fact it was revealed in 1997, the same year it made its first flight. I'd say it was common knowledge by the time it entered service in 2005.
If you look further back, there were 25 years between the first flight of the F-15 and F-22, 29 years between them entering service. It's now been 24 years since the F-22 first flew, so probably about time for 6th-gen to be flying, but still a few years before it's ready to enter service.
I don't think the military is quite as secretive as a lot of people think. The B-2 was also revealed a year before its first flight (the same year the F-117 was revealed), for example. They want to justify their budget, they need to be seen doing things. Historically, the only aircraft the Air Force has concealed have been either major technology breakthroughs like stealth or spy planes that are in active use.

Technology wise the 6th gen fighter is about the equivalent to the Wright flyer compared to the actual tech. The vast majority of those watching this video were not even born when the YF-12A was flying let alone the SR-71. The 117 was flying 10 years before you ever even heard of it since it had already been flying already in 1980. Whatever they manage to show the public is already 30 years or more behind in actual tech that they might even allow shown. True tech levels are way beyond that.

I also worked on F-4 Phantoms - an aircraft that began it's service life in 1960. The US military claimed they had a top speed of "mach 2.4" - pretty fast, even by today's standards. Yet an RF-4b was capable of a top speed close to mach 3. I say all that to say this: When the US military 'fesses up to a certain level of technology, they already have something better/faster/more advanced IN USE, and what they have in development is quite a bit beyond THAT.

I live down the street from the Skunkworks and there has been plenty of activity there, supposedly working on a cargo plane (yeah right). One of my friends in Palmdale said he has seen something with 6 engines flying out of the airport at night and there is no such layout in our current inventory!

That number of engines is super inefficient, unlikely on anything modern, except perhaps a cargo propeller plane?

If these image at 0:17 (the one from the diagram in that aquasitions report) is what it will look like i am glad that the YF-23 will sort of "live on" in/"pave the way" for the NGAD fighter program, the YF-23 is the best looking plane i have ever seen in my life, with the SR-71 in second place. That would make me so very happy if it will look like that!
Also in the acquisition report diagram the exhaust looks like that of the YF-23 but with thrust vectoring capabilities, exactly what would have been needed to get it the contract as opposed to the f-22!!!!

Was wondering why the F-22 was suddenly doing air shows. If that's the old model this must be beyond comprehension

The 22 has been doing air shows pretty well since it’s public debut.

The three engine design is gonna be breathtaking when revealed. Basically one engine in the centerline is only opened up past Mach 4, likely the plane will be faster than Mach 6. The SR72 which it will be codeployed with tops at Mach 7+ and will act as recon and radar jamming.
Not to mention drones which can *redacted* will be fired on hypersonic missiles that will join these aircraft on sorties. It’s utterly game changing, meanwhile China and russia are still dicking around with 5th Gen crap.

as a us general once said in a classified mostly deleted interview: "When we are told that we need to upgrade..any cability, we already have one that matches..the adversary..(And Who is the adversary?) someone who wishes they had what we have."

Last graphic kinda looks like it has slots for it's vertical stabilizers. Perhaps they can fold in during cruise for less drag?

It would be epic if the NGAD fighter turned out to be a YF-23-based design.

      If only ...
Don't get me wrong ... the F22 is amazing, but so was the YF-23 ...
In fact, if I was in charge of our (British) RAF procurement, instead of the delayed, and aging Eurofighter Typhoon, especiallygoing by the date it eventually entered service, I would've asked "Well, if you're not going to use the YF-23, can we ... ? Of course, in return that means giving us large contracts with Rolls-Royce and BAE, on a cost-to-cost basis, in return, but I think you can live with that ..."

I dont see any reason why it would be based on a design from the 80s.

The problem of maintaining of "Classified Projects" insures hidden faults and over-promising of design details. Occurs in monumental levels until discovered. Which was the problem with the F-35. Causing the F-15 and F-16 to remain in production decades longer. Than its supposed replacements.
Which could not maintain any confidence the F-35 / F-22 could replace them.
Space X did the opposite and kept everything open and honest. Thereby making sure annoying failures were found early and corrected on the spot. Driving the creating process far faster than any other aerospace company ever does. As well as developing products that are costing1/100 to 1/1000 of standard aerospace designs.
Which is why Blue Origin is a failure as it is based on standard aerospace methodologies. As its products are years behind intended goals and has yet to put a single rocket into orbit.
Were as Space X in now the leading company in aerospace design. Because it makes its failures public knowledge. And promptly corrects those failures. And creates new designs based on what was found out why the previous designs failed. Then moves on to better designs. Resulting in successful operational designs.
