I have 4 American Standard Titans and have never had a blistered gasket. I change out the Gaskets about every 3-4 years as maintenance and never had an issue. I do think they should do a better job with pushing back the porcelain coating in the the way bottom hole as I have to clean the area going into hole because of lack of coating. One more inch would do it.

Thank you for sharing this video. The first options seems the best because of the low water line. Can you please, please recommend a toilet that has a super low waterline that prevents splashing? I don't understand why any brands make toilets with high water line which splashes. When I was in one of the European countries they barely use any water so there was NO splashing. I am not sure why the US doesn't take a cue from them.

The first one is a Toto Drake Knockoff and why it flushes right. Toto developed the first 3" flush valve designs and the Tornado swirl action seen in #1. Kohlers have been the worst flushing toilets for decades with their focus being all about fancy shitters instead.
The Gerber Avalanche uses Toto's original 3" flush design and still remains the best gravity fed flusher for the cheapest cost. I just bought another one for less than $200. Best thing about an Avalanche besides its flushing abilities is the parts inside. It uses Fluidmaster shelf parts so fixing it immediately is always possible.
Kohler loves to use parts they patent and hold them for ransom.

I would look at the Toto Drake 2 instead. The original Drakes were great but the Drake 2 is arguably equally impressive. Toto's tornado flush is a better design than Kohler's and the performance is superior IMO. I installed one at my house a few months ago to replace a Glacier Bay that cracked and it's a high quality toilet with a powerful flush. I normally gravitate towards older toilets but I must say I'm very impressed with the Drake. Not hating on Kohler, my mom has two Cimarron 360s like the first one in this video at her house and they work pretty well but I will say the Toto is superior.

For $250 in my opinion is worth a look opposed to $600+ for a pressure powered toilet.

We are replacing our American Standard Cadet toilet for the second time in 20 years. Ridiculous.
Both units made in Mexico and the elongated bowl develops an internal crack, so the bowl does not hold a proper water level. Tank water level remains full.
Would not recommend American Standard. Toilets used to only be replaced when the owner wanted something more modern.

that is my concern, so far every plumber says "or you could just get a new toilet for almost the same cost" "new" is not necessarily better... I'm a 71 year old thinking of rebuilding the tank guts myself (yikes, I've done the easy stuff, float, flapper) paying a plumber to do it (nearly $300) or, new toilet but, I don't want a tall toilet (I'm short and low, is better for intestine function... do we assume all adults are too weak to get up or have knee issues? darn I'm sick of hype). Tired of advertising banter vs facts. And, the AS seal issue is a good example, we buy something with a flaw... and then pay someone to fix it? sheesh... I'm back to thinking of trying to rebuild the old one myself. Who knew it would be this much research.

I went to the Kohler factory - they sent me parts and they don't look the same as what is in the toilet now, even though I gave them the toilet tank serial number. If I buy another toilet, it won't be a Kohler because of the canister flush mechanism.
