    I have 3 Nigerian dwarf goat wethers as pets. They are a year old now. They leash trained so easily at just a few months old. I walk them around the neighborhood 1 to 3 times a week. Last month, we got a couple of dog cage crates and drove them to a park to walk. They loved it. I look forward to the day they can carry a little pack with water bottles and treats.

I almost thought I may have to exclude livestock and just stick to growing grains ( millets) and vegetables until I came across this video, Thank you,( Texas)

    Very interesting. I've been loading my two most aggressive goats into the trailer first, and tying them up in the front so they won't try to beat up the other (more submissive) goats that I load up after them. I only tie up the two "alpha" goats. But I'll try your method next time I load them and see if it's easier.

  • @tinaschmidtsart
    @tinaschmidtsart 3 роки тому +2

    You might want to try loading them and then going nowhere. Just load them and out some snacks or food and lots of petting - and some rest time in the trailer. Do this a few times a month so they get a positive experience out of it. After they relax and are totally chilled out, then unload them and let them go back to their pens. That way, they are making a positive reward association with the trailer load and its not just about work. I was a natural horsemanship trainer and I taught about animal behavior at a university in California for 16 years. Horses, goats, sheep, etc are all prey animals and they think very different from humans. They huddle because of the herding instinct to get to the middle of the herd for safety. In the wild, there is safety in the middle. Prey animals need time to process and feel like the positive choices they make are their own idea. Youve done amazing with these beautiful goats of yours! They look happy and healthy!

    Very cute goats, Here in Russia, some people load 6-7 milk goats with pickup trucks to the town and sell "most fresh' milk to the locals. Don't know when did people started to enjoy goat milk but customers think that is much healthier than cow milk or horse milk.

    What breed are they? - Alpine and Alpine crosses (found in the comments).
    And how to avoid to be hit by their horns - I assume they could attack you if in a bad mood? Can you use hornless ones as a pack animals? Thank you.
    Currently need to learn how to load my dog in the car for a visit to vet (because it's the only place we take her in the car and she figured it out and refuses to load.) Luckily I still able to carry her, but your goats are definitely not portable. :)

      Have you seen the channel 123HomeFree? He has a dairy sheep flock that he uses the rams as packers that also help to pull his covered wagon shelter. He stresses for constant connection with sheep to build trust and bond with them. I want to be able to load sheep into my truck and take them to grazing spots. I feel like it’s possible if it’s done right.
