I had to mildly reprimand my daughter last night for letting four of our pygmy goats follow her into the house. Most people treat them like farm equipment, my kids try to treat them like house pets.
Kind of hard to develop that affection when the goat is always trying to bust your balls in order to usurp your right to mate with the females of the herd ;)

They were about to be butchered till we got them an gave them a chance. And from the go they were constantly ramming an hooking us with their horns, pestering all of the other farm animals (except for Sargent our guard donkey). @@Apollo360XD when I was about 6 or 7 I tested this out at the petting Zoo with two goats I saw. I kept feeding one leaves and the other one, I kept syke-ing, as in, I'd show him the leaf and then yank it away as soon as he went for a bite. The goat I was rewarding was cool, the other goat was flaring nostrils and huffing and puffing. Then suddenly the goat I was rewarding also turned on me, I guess, in support of his buddy and the obvious injustice he was facing. So he stopped nibbling at the leaves in my hand. I'm 36 now and still remember this experiment vividl. Solidarity is universal...but still not sure if it was out of "feelings of injustice being committed" maybe I just humanized their behaviour. But I know what I saw.
@@BoqPrecision hey actually you did a similar experiment to what some scientists did with monkeys! For the same task, they rewarded one monkey with a better treat than the other, and after a while the one with the least good treats threw a tantrum and stopped doing the task alltogether.
Wish I, or my parents, had known this 40 years ago. We had a couple of aggressive nannies who attacked my brother and me regularly. Didn't put me off goats though. Fortunately, my present goat is a sweetheart with people (hates dogs though). I did try flipping her once, to do her hooves, and she looked so hurt and offended I've never done it again. You're right, it hurts their feelings.
@@thelukesternater Makes sense, though I've never had more than 2. I think it's more to do with transferring the respect the animals have for adults to children. I'm having a similar problem now with a pony. She'll do anything for me but simply ignores my 11-year-old daughter. Unfortunately, I'm not the one who wants to ride her.
I never had to do anything like that to our goats when we had them fortunately! We would just put them in the milking stand whenever we needed to trim their hooves.
I assumed so to start with as well, but it sounded like you can always squish that cat in context, and need a pretty good reason to flip that goat (and plenty of love afterwards)!
@@justinbennett9998 you joke but there’s a judo takedown from the kneeling position that flips people like this. This is the same technique we have used on our 130lbs Cane Corso when he was showing aggression towards other dogs. It only took a few times and his bad behavior stopped. I will be using this on my goats now as well. Thank you for showing discipline in a compassionate manner.
First I learned how to squish the cat and it helped me with my 4 cats, didn't know that there was a flip a goat. The buck most likely too big and too aggressive to try this. It sounds like you have to do this when they are young but I still don't understand why flipping is even necessary.
@@RG-hf4et You may be right about having them when young. To be honest this sounds better than me finding a scarce stick to fend them off or being high in a tree crying for help and contemplating my life. I used to hate to go and loose this one buck my dad bought...we eventually sold it. He was wild.
@@optimisticjamaicangirl7792 The only experience I have with goats is with my 2 wethers. I got them as babies and never had problems with them except mischief or escaping onto the neighbors property. When I went to pick them up, the owner was showing us around and there was one bull in his pen who wanted out. He was big, loud, & screaming and ramming his head against the barn door at least 25 times will full force as we walked through. He was scary. I could see why an intact male/bull is not a family pet. He's really just there as a sperm doner then at some point you need a new bull.
@@RG-hf4et the flipping isn't 100% necessary, it seems that this lad and other goat farmers have found it to be an effective way to train his goats to stay under them in the pack. As he said in the video, if he just lets the goats hit 'em with their horns then they'll think it's okay to do to smaller children, or his wife. Flipping the goat is used to assert dominance in a non-destructive and (mostly) controlled manner.
Cloven animals will always feel the most insecure when on their back. This was just interesting to watch because the dominance hierarchy is the universal language.

Feeding time is the worst. Yesterday, my 2 yr old male goat charged me from behind right in my thigh to get to the food. I make excuses all the time for him. I always think he didn't mean to do it, but now, seeing this video, I think he did. He has gradually headbutt me before. Then more intense the next time. Each time is amped up a bit. Yesterday was the absolute worst. Again, thanks for sharing this video, I learned a lot.

Well this morning was the first time I've ever flipped the goat. I did it exactly like you said to do it and I was blown away! It worked!😅 my goat was laying on his back upside-down I stood over him and yelled and his face and said no no no! I walked away from him he's slowly got up and looked at me very perplexed and then he just stood there looking broken hearted. LOL I felt bad for him and then I walked away and he walked behind me calling me as to say I'm sorry. Then I stopped and petted him on the back told him good boy and then he has to behave well for the next few hours he was perfect gentleman. We'll see what happens tomorrow. But thank you for the great advice😊😊😊

I've watched this video before but I wanted to let you know that I finally had to flip my buckling. He actually caught me off guard and poked a hole in my leg drawing blood. I did exactly what you showed me to do in this video. later on he got frisky around me but this time I was prepared for what he was going to do. He bumped me on the side of the leg and continued to press on with his Horns and attitude. In total within a period of 15 minutes I had to flip him 3 times. the fourth time he came for me he brushed his body against me and decided that putting his horns to work was a bad idea. I'm sure he'll try again, but your instruction has been very useful. Marc, I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the time you take teaching me to care for, love and nurture my goats. Fortunately, my present goat is a sweetheart with people (hates dogs though). I did try flipping her once, to do her hooves, and she looked so hurt and offended I've never done it again.
