    AWESOME!!! Such beautiful beings...& while I realize the significant dangers of their bites, I still love 'em ALL.🥰 I think the unreasoning fear that some people have against spiders, snakes, bats, rats, bugs, & a host of other critters is culturally-ingrained as children grow...& that tends to pixx me off. Every one of these animals is a gift from the Creator of ALL life, & should be respected as such. Thanks for sharing this WONDER.

      FailingFalsely they do just sit there sometimes, I have 3 at the moment but planning on getting many more once it gets warmer. My smallest 2 - 2.25cm is active most of the time. My middle just chills out in the corner due for a rehouse, my Adult female has webbed up a little more but she is the most inactive and hides all the time... the bigger they get ( most species as well ) the more less active they become patiently awaiting.

    Beautiful, both! I'm about to get my second T (already have B.Smithi for month), i'm still absolute noob and i think it gonna be GBB =)
    Was thinking about G. PulchI or Geniculata, but i heard that they are good webers and more intersting to observe than all Brachypelmas, Grammostolas and even Geniculatas and Lasiodoras.
    And that they are not hard to keep even for novice like me)

    • @ScottManly

    I know that tarantulas don't see that well, but can they smell? Such beautiful spiders you showed us, I can't get the coloured ones here in Australia, due to the regulations but I'm interested in getting an Australian bird eater, not sure how many different types of tarantulas there are here, I think they are mostly deep brown to reddish brown in colour. Thank you for sharing your video. Cheers!

    • @MrTomkat030
      @MrTomkat030 5 років тому +1

      Howling Wind no they don’t smell, most all Tarantulas see upclose in their vicinity maybe a foot, however they know exactly where everything is by touch, and by the hairs on their legs. The slightest movement by anything the T will know exactly how big whatever it is that’s causing the disturbance of their web or that just so happens to be near them. They pick up the slightest vibrations in the ground and in the air from the hair on their legs *Fascinating*

      Fearing an attack out in the open, all New Worlds are always poised to chop off those urticating hairs on their abdomen just in case is the reason why it's lifting its back legs like that.. More like getting ready to pull out a knife or gun IMO. It's obviously fearing for its life...

    • @MrTomkat030
      @MrTomkat030 5 років тому +2

      I have 3, an adult Female, an unsexed juvenile about 4.5 - 5”, as well as a smaller 2.5 - 3inch, and I can tell that his GBB is uncomfortable being on his hand. The way she was lifting the front leg in my experience ( i don’t handle my T’s ) from observing is that they’re scared or possibly stressed. Say from a feeder and my GBB isn’t hungry ( yea it happens) they will do this, then if I keep prodding to give the feeder the next position they take is lifting back legs ( seen in vid ) the next after that if they don’t want to run is my smaller one will strike and back off... my juvenile strikes and kicks ( only once ) and my Female struck and ran off like a bolt of lightning.

    The 2nd tarantula make a good beginner T?
    I know the GBB is a fairly docile T and a good starter for the hobby.

    • @ScottManly
      @ScottManly  6 років тому

      Tim Jensen I would say the P sazimai is about as nice a beginner species as GBBs. They are about the same temperament, and the Sazimai needs more moisture than a GBB (based on their natural habitats).
      As for nervousness, no, I wasn't nervous, maybe just thinking how to get that girl off my arm with a camera in my other hand. Distracted, not nervous.

    • @ScottManly
      @ScottManly  5 років тому +3

      Lol. Just to make sure you understand, that isn't a bald spot, it's a "mirror patch". Some Ts, especially Grammostolas and these, have quite reflective urticating hairs and so their urt patch looks a bit like a mirror.

    • @sevenn7pure
      @sevenn7pure 5 років тому

      Really??? I honestly had no idea. I had a rose hair once and was told that spotting a bald patch was a good indication that the spider is stressed in some sort of way. Not hungry or dehydrated, but environment, owners trying to handle them, or a food source. (ie, crickets are like rats and eat anything, including our pets. My mistake. Thanks for the info!!!!!!

    • @ScottManly
      @ScottManly  5 років тому +5

      Yes, tarantulas will flick hairs if stressed by food or people, or other factors. They also shed more liberally as they near a molt, and just before they flip over to molt, they often flick most all that remains into the molting kat so as to deter potential predators from disturbing them during this very vulnerable time.
