I did the trip between Rio and Lima over a two month period with a number of overnight bus rides. In the south of Peru there was a strike with the roads out of Cusco blocked. Some tourists negotiated with taxi drivers to take them out through side roads. Bad idea, all the tourists came back in the taxis with all the windows smashed from the strikers. If there is strike action and the roads are blockaded you've just got to wait it out.

I love this documentary when I watched it for the first time and inspired me to take long journey and not focused on the destination and appreciate the journey itself. I visited Peru in September 2023 but, it was completely different landscape, all mountains and lake Titicaca. But this river journey reminded me of my Nile River Cruise in September 2021 but the River Cruise was very organized. After 29 days all over Egypt, I took a 9 hour night ferry from Neweiba, Egypt to Aqaba, Jorda. The ferry full of economic migrants was similar to this experience 😊, I was one of the 7 ladies on the ferry, the rest were male. I also had to wait for 2 days before I could secure a ticket to leave Egypt, I was bagging at the ticket office that I must depart Egypt before my 30 days Visa expired! I literally waited outside the ticket office for 6 hours to make sure I can buy a ticket! The migrants were carry sacks and luggage with broken wheel and we all waited for 2pm till 10pm outside on the streets. Once the terminal opens, the migrants started charging, running inside while the police were trying to control the crowd. Because it was September 2021, everyone had to take COVID test before departure and inside the ferry administered by Jordanian custom. I still can't believe I made my journey! I made short videos of my 36 days Egypt/ Jordan journey and posted on my UA-cam channel, feel free to check it out and let me know what you think 😊.
in part one, the bus driver said, a lot of things can happen in the road, even love can happen. while i watch part 2, i realize it really can happen. 5 day target can be 1 week trip, i can see people can be open up to other in the bus. such a great trip.

Hi, DW! Thanks for another informative documentary. Have you ever thought of creating and selling wall calendars with photos of the beautiful scenic views in your videos?
I've made many trips by bus, some just a few hundred miles, others much longer, and that was 30 to 40 years ago and there was never a time when the windows were broken open. Only twice have busses I've traveled on experienced problems, and they were always engine related. Only once was a new bus sent out to get passengers to the destination terminal. The other time a crew sent out was able to get us back on the road.
Any humped cattle you see is originally from India, they are called "Zebu", they adopt very well to all situations. Zebu bull is symbol of ancient Indian culture.
Only the cows are holy in India and, as far as I know, it's not a religious thing but a cultural thing because the cows give such a wonderful gift called milk - and you can even buy meat there. That cattle is indeed the Zebu kind from india and the white ones are called Nelore - not very docile, but very sturdy and produce a very lean meat. Unfortunately, deforestations for pastures is a problem in the northern region (Rondônia) but in Mato Grosso cattle have been grazing the natural fields for generations - there the problem is Soy Bean plantations.
