    *”It’s not about YOU.”* is what more people need to understand about mental illness in general/as a whole. That used to be common sense. It should still be, but it isn’t for some reason and that’s not good and incredibly counterintuitive for everyone.

    I watched a woman give a Ted talk on her schizophrenia once. And she doesnt make eye contact with people sometimes. She says its because a hallucinations will be right there on or behind the person. And she decided that the best way to cope sometimes is to not interact with the hallucinations. Some of them are pretty scary or brutal. She also avoids telling people where she sees them because the first thing they do is look in that direction, which she hates. Because they're not going to see anything. But them simply looking in that direction causes an interaction with *her* hallucination and will make it worse for her. I thought that was really interesting.

      @@ilevel007 yes it’s sad a lot think people with schizophrenia as monsters when they are not . Also I have the stigma around BPD that people think we manipulate people and do these crazy things when we usually are the ones who get manipulated because it happened to me :/

      @@itsbubbles4021 my best friend growing up had an uncle who was schizophrenic.
      He never scared me, which is why I have an interest in understanding it better. I didn't like how his siblings treated him. I have a family member with BPD. And she does come off as manipulative sometimes, but the way she was raised back in the day, I feel the "manipulation" is a survival behavior for unmet emotional needs. I watched a vid where a shaman said most people with these "disorders" actually have a spiritual gift that they're not taught how to manage and use effectively. The way we "treat" it either makes it worse or numbs them. I truly believe that.

    I laugh uncontrollably while at work, having hallucinatory conversations. It's quite embarrassing, I've opened up to my coworkers that I live schizophrenia and shockingly enough they're all really supportive. The sad part for me is when it is happening, I'm actually having a blast. I just embrace it now.

      Literally people with schizophrenia are far more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators, I can't remember the specific stats but they might even be less likely than the general population to commit violence. Some people with schizophrenia being violent doesn't mean shit about schizophrenia as a whole, because people with any mental illness or indeed no mental illness can be violent too, but we don't judge people with depression or anxiety or no mental illness as violent because most of the time they don't. It's frustrating that people don't understand the same about more stigmatised mental illnesses

    • @TheDutchessOfCornville
      @TheDutchessOfCornville 4 місяці тому

      The media has absolutely vilified all mental illness, but especially schizophrenia. It’s constant being used in sensationalized headlines and it’s used as a plot device to explain who a certain character is explosive or violent.
      It’s (to a lesser degree, like that with bipolar disorder. It’s made to be something that will turn someone into some kind of monster…. When, really, most folks that I know with bpd would be the first ones to try and save someone, not harm them.
      It’s shitty and I’m sorry to anyone who has to deal with that stigma and ignorance from others.

      Yet, we still don't have 100% proof that they won't. Sorry, I just put myself in others shoes, and being that I was attacked while pregnant, just walking into a building by someone who had it..something trigger that action.

    • @butasimpleidiotwizard
      @butasimpleidiotwizard 4 місяці тому

      @dadebator369 people without schizophrenia also might just randomly attack you, it happens, it's just not common and it isn't common for people with schizophrenia either. It's understandable to be frightened of someone who is behaving in a way you don't understand, and that isn't predictable to you, especially if you've had bad experiences with similar people in the past, but that doesn't mean they should be treated poorly. I think watching more videos from this creator might help make you feel safer about it, as long as you're open to hearing her perspective and understanding how she experiences the world.

Anywho the eclipse was happening I was laughing cause the voices were telling me funny things. I come out and my room mate he’s kind of aggressive with me and say who are you talking too. But we have been room mates for like 8 months and he knows I talk to myself. So I don’t understand why he is so mean some times. Then last night he got into a fight with his chick at 2 am in the morning has a tantrum runs down the stairs and slams the door which then woke up the other room mate from below me. It was a mess. Sorry tmi. But yes that’s how it’s going.

    So I feel like the thought of having to deal with "thoughts that aren't yours" is incredibly difficult to grasp for them.
    Maybe someday they'll be able to truly understand that we're not thinking or acting "as they expect".

    • @me4093
      @me4093 5 місяців тому +9

      Yes support is so important because depression is very common with it. I have a mother and 3 siblings with it and keeping everyone on a stable course with talking things out constantly is helpful. We are very successful I think. Not always peaches and cream but I think more when we need someone with a change in meds occasionally has a wild ride but we keep it simple and normal. People still have normal lives with mental illness as well and have great jobs and beautiful families. You always need support. And it doesn't have to come from family you can have friends or a community that will support you if needed. Much love ❤

    I can imagine that - in some environments (perhaps in public where the people around you don’t know you or your condition) - it might be dangerous to reply out loud to your hallucinations. If you reply to them ‘in your head’ (thinking the words internally rather than out loud) would the voices still engage/respond?
    I’m thinking kind of like how a person might have a bit of a ‘back-and-forth’ with themselves in their own mind.
    I imagine in situations like a plane (where there can be a lower threshold of acceptance for behaviours deviating from the ‘norm’ as they may be read as somehow threatening.
    Also - what happens if you ‘ignore’ your hallucinations (look away, don’t engage). Does their behaviour change (become aggressive/confrontational towards you)? Is there a feeling of stress/discomfort (like when someone with Tourette’s tries to suppress a tic)?

    Altho, I'm curious, I know nothing about schizophrenia, when you talk to an hallucination does it feel like not realising stuff around or more that you know there is somethint that entertain you but you can't ignore the hallucination?
    I'm just curious about how you say you will just talk to the hallucination no matter how many interesting things may happen around

    What you don't understand or want to accept is that it's not are problem and you should just keep it to yourself. We all have are own things to worry about and deal with. Not trying to be mean just being real

    What's one thing you hate about the way people make schizophrenia sound like. All my life people made schizophrenia sound like a mental illness that makes a person violent

    If you gotta explain that to someone, they are insecure af while you’re schizophrenic. Who tf gets jealous that you’re talking to your hallucinations? Gtfoh. Drop those ppl off. Shyyyytttt get friends that wanna know if they talk, do the hallucinations hear and respond to what they said too. What do they look like? Are the hallucinations salty that you were talking to other ppl? I’d rather talk to someone who I sent real then have to validate someone that I’m not ignoring them whilst dealing with my conditions that I’m sure you’ve told them about already. ❤

    So is it like you’re on weed and having a post traumatic experience where you’re placing yourself in a circumstance to address issues with ppl you’ve had in the past but you do it without being on weed ?

      @@SchizophrenicNYC thanks but it’s not happening to me. I’m drawing conclusions from what I’ve seen in your videos and in people’s weed like behaviors so asked to see if it’s similar thought I’d kindly ask.

    Listen. I’m not saying what is happening to you is fake. Because I know everyone is different.. but how do you not get scared? It’s so scary for me and I can’t distinguish reality from hallucinations sometimes and the auto hallucinations, I believe are more scary in my world.

    I did it somebody who had bipolar, schizophrenia. And to be honest, they actually scared me because I never knew what their next move was gonna be.

      My psychiatrist told me you can’t have bipolar and schizophrenia. They call it bipolar one because that’s what I have. I don’t know if it’s different everywhere you live but apparently when you have bipolar one, your mania comes with hallucinations of all types but I was told you you can’t maybe my doctor was wrong

    I might be wrong , im not a doctor but as im going through awakening and learning some things just want to ask you a question... are you diagnosed with schizophrenia or you just very sensitive to the outside world what other people are not aware of? Maybe you just can hear the spirits talking to you good or bad... do you get my point? I would recommend to go to a spiritual healer instead taking meds... get some more information , we are living in a world right now where's global awakening happening and many people will find out that they were misdiagnosed for many years.

    Do the hallucinations look like humans? Is it just like having a conversation with another person except they just aren’t there in reality?

    So you’re medicated but experiencing hallucinations nonetheless? My sister is schizophrenic and living in a delusion right now. She went missing 4 years ago and when we found her she said she wasn’t related to us, said she only spoke Spanish, was living on the streets. She’s off meds and gone again.
