Used this lure many years ago....like most people I got caught up in all the new fancy lures!!...decided to go back and revisit this one...and after the fish I caught....it will always be on one of my rods!! Thanks for a great video
They work all over, here on the salty side you have three colors, Gold for Redfish, and Silver for everything else. On the end of piers Spanish Mackerel LOVE em. Make sure to have a heavy leader, even wire strands. Oh yea the rusty color, which happens a lot here is for those that got away stories.
I’m up in Northern Wisconsin and my best luck is with Silver and a white single grub tail. Or the Red & White with a White double tail Mister Twister. Some minor luck with Gold , and no luck with the black. Big Bass and 30” Plus Pike zero in on the Silver Minnow like the Cows heading home to get milked. Hard Hits.
Nice video! Sad I had to move from Chicago where the lure was made, move south to appreciate the versatility of the Johnson Silver Minnow from 1oz for saltwater & redish all the way to 1/8oz & ultralight rods & reels to fish these little Houston Bayous that are passed by every day & not being fished! The Silver Minnow Spoon is the 1# spoon of the 3 spoons I fish! The Daredevil and one spoon a Triple Chance if you can find in it's original configuration? A Silver Minnow knock off with 3 different depth settings or in its most found condition a spoon no weed guard and a trible hook with a tail chaser! All three are good! But the Johnson Silver Minnow Spoon shines in any cover and is deadly when being fished vegetation and allowed just dead flutter in a opening in the weeds! Everything will hit it! Even the Bayou Muskies or as the Texans call them alligator Gar! But keeping hooked is just plain luck! They 2.5 feet of all muscle and some alot bigger! Really like your video and will start using the older flat rubber skirts as a trailer! There's a company in Louisiana that makes them H&H? They use them on their cheap spinnerbaits! But they catch fish!
I think the swim jig and chatter bait replaced this bait with new anglers. There is nothing wrong with this bait. It is a bass getter. Thanks for the video. They should rename the spoon the “Big Magic Johnson”.
Not enough man, unless you're in open water.. MH to Heavy rods with 30-50 # braid is my choice. 20# in regular lines. I don't mess around with this bait- good luck and THANKS.
@@HickbillyOutdoorswithDWVerts wish I could show you a picture. But just take a curly tail chop off the top. Run the weed guard right up the middle of the worm, and skin hook.
This is a staple of my tackle box. Highly underrated. I know you know. Great video; thank you.
Let's just keep it a secret- not many pay attention to the old-school stuff. Thanks!

Man, that is COOL. I dig the OLD stuff, obviously myself. Best of luck in the future!
Man, this is some good stuff! The lake you’re fishing looks exactly like my home lake. I’m headed to get a couple tomorrow. Thank you!
Thanks David- I hope you did GOOD.

Yep, those H&H's are the ticket. Glad you like this- it's almost the SEASON here again for us. Thanks!
I bet one of those would work on white bass on Truman.

Well, I'm a believer in it, and you can fish it in places those baits would run from. Thanks man.
Great video! Does medium power baitcaster rod work for this set up brother?

Thanks brother!!
@@HickbillyOutdoorswithDWVertsdo you use flouro leader on this setup brother? or just straight braid?
I never use a leader for anything. Old School, remember... This is MUSCLE fishin'- straight braid.@@iamalemontree
