  • I had a massive oil leak from the passenger side of my 2006 Toyota Highlander V-6.
The oil appeared to be coming from behind the timing belt cover.
Further investigation revealed it was actually leaking from the Oil Pressure Sensor Switch.
It was a quick fix with the right tools.
Remember the block is aluminum so tighten the sensor accordingly.
    Thanks for watching!

I have to say Thank You! for making this video. You have saved me a lot of frustration in trouble shooting for the same exact problem with my daughter’s car. It’s not a hybrid, just a V6 with high mileage.

Very helpful info. Even experienced mechanics will still have to go through a series of eliminating possibilities for occasional problems that they don’t spot at first. Thanks for sharing your work.Good luck with the car further down the road. 😊

I have an 06 highland hybrid that I love. The mechanic thinks it may be an upper oil pan leak and that it will require removing the engine so maybe not worth it. It does appear to be coming from that same area as on yours. Major leak like a faucet. I’m going to show them your video.

Showed your video to Mechanic. They agreed it was worth following up. They replaced the part today and so far it seems like no more leaking. I am so happy!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. I was ready to give up on the car bc they thought it would be in the thousands to take the engine out and replace other stuff. I paid $300 for labor and part today. Fingers crossed!!!

It's not called a sensor. It's called a sender. A sensor sends digital temperature or magnetic position. Senders are often dyapframic or spring loaded variable resistance mechanisms moved by pressure. That's my bored smart alleck reply to this video.

Or to be completely correct a pressure trandeucer.

I have an 04 awd highlander with the 3.3L. Its leaking from the rear bank, but under the valve cover somewhere. Any ideas?

      I. Sieve these engines have a known balance cover gasket issue. You may attempt a retorque but ultimately it may need new valve cover gaskets.
      Good luck!
