The glorious new dawn was not to be. This weekend, the number one team in the world showed just how they reached those undeniable heights as Ireland crushed Wales in Cardiff for the first time in ten years. So how did they pull it off, what's wrong with Wales, and are Ireland ready to take on France?

Think the analysis of Biggar’s failure to pass to Adams in the corner ignores the fact he’d given away an intercept try just moments before. You can see it playing on his mind when he looks to pass initially.

Speaking as an Irishman, we have a great habit of peaking the year before a World Cup, so to speak. However, it's looking good rn. We're as strong as we've been in ages. Would love to take it, but we'll have to see. Especially after France, this current Irish side is looking hard to beat. Will have to see a) how the rest of the SN shakes out, and b) if Ireland can keep that momentum into the world cup in September.

See I don't think that's it. I think it's that the truly great teams know how and when to push it. Pretty sure you can say the same of Wales at their grand slam best, France now, 2015 All Blacks, many English and South African teams.
Weaker teams cheat too, just get caught or don't have the skills to take advantage to the same extent.

I had pretty much the same opinion as Gatland. Wales' discipline was poor and some players looked very rusty in the first half, but Wales were dominant in the second half - they just didn't convert anything.
I reckon it will take 2-3 games but there are promising signs already that Gatland is having a positive affect.

Great analysis as per usual except the first time I would 100% disagree with that intercept analysis, in my opinion that 1 second is not enough to change lowe’s decision to go for the intercept, he knows he’s outnumbered and was always going to go for it. Bigger should have passed to the adams and then he maybe would have had the chance to go through the gap as Lowe rushed out and adams would have at least caught it ahead of Lowe whereas Williams couldn’t, or biggar should have just gone into contact himself after seeing the threat of Lowe

Don't be silly, Ireland won't have to navigate that many games at the World Cup. The only question for Ireland is how funny their continuing World Cup curse will be. I'm betting on Munster man Ben Healy kicking a last minute penalty for Scotland to knock Ireland out in the pool stage.
