Funny thing: the filter thread size is different... however, in DJI store, the filter set for sale is claimed to be compatible with both Osmo Action 3 and 4. Any explanations?
How does it perform in water without a dive case? That's been my biggest concern with this camera
I was hoping for a resolution bump with the sensor area increase, but it's actually lower than the Action 3. I bit of a bummer since I like to use my Action 3 for stills.
I'm thinking the pixels are bigger that's why it's better in low light

I got an Action 4 today. Just set it up and did some simple test videos. Was going to get a 3, but when I heard that the 4 was coming out soon, I decided to wait. More money, but decided it was worth it to get the newest model with a larger sensor.
Would you use Rock Steady or Rock Steady +? I’m confused by the difference and not sure which to use for a majority of my shots.
I won't rush to buy 4, I almost bought 3 for 189 francs combo and I don't regret it, the camera is brutally good

I watched your comparison of the Action 3 to Gopro 11. This would be my first action camera. I want to use it for running . Would it be too bulky or heavy to attach to the forehead? Awesome video. And I suppose you still think the 4 is better than the Gopro?

I saw (@5:28) where he said that he ran both cams, at several differing quality settings, both hot and freezing conditions and neither had any problems-the batteries died first, at I think 2 hrs.

I'm still new to this A4. Very cool, I can use voice command to activate and deactivate the video by saying, " Start recording." Stop recording" and " Take Photo " is for camera mode. ❤
How are the stills? Is there much shutter lag with photos?
Can you have an external mic and external battery connected to the camera at the same time? This is why I returned the Os 3. Solve for this and I'm sold.
I was hoping for continuous charge while having a wireless mic connected. the first gen allows it but not the action 3 and looks like now action 4. I'd figure they would fix this since there's a lot of forums on their website asking for that capability back.

I gotta say, im starting to get a bit pissed about all tech companies that just continue to push out new products each year that is just slight .... the minimal possible approvement over last produkt just for a fast cash grab.
Why should I buy the Action 4?! They will probably release an exact copy called Action 5 in 8 months with a full 1 inch sensor! And of course, NO lenses or NDs that you use for 3 can fit the 4......
Have we really already hit the ceiling for what we can make in camera gear so we just have to re-launch the same stuff over and over? Doesn't latest Go>Pro shoot in 5 K or something? They couldn't do that in this one, or is that perhaps the Action 5 and the full inch 8 month after that is Action 6?!

Meh. I've gotta disagree on this one. Nobody is forcing you to buy a new camera every year. For most people, picking up a new camera every 3-4 years is perfectly normal. But when they're able to launch new features and iterate on a camera, then I'm stoked that they do. For this camera a new sensor is quite the upgrade. The move from 1/1.7 to 1/1.3 might sound small but it's huge in the camera's overall performance. I'm hoping we see an Action 5 next year as well and hopefully an Action 6 the next! And again, if you've bought the Action 4, nobody will force you to buy the Action 5👍
will my samsung fast chargers work to charge the osmo action4 battery pack? I have a 25 and a 45 Amp charger cube.
The accessory i use the most for my OA4 is actually the magnetic necklace that came with the OA2. Quick release on my chest.

I saw on an Amazon review that there only certain phones that are compatible to setting it up. Idk if there's a list somewhere for what phones can do it. I'd like to get one for my cousin for his birthday, but not if he can't even set it up.
Great camera! Unfortunately not much has changed from the previous model. All improvements, as little as they may seem, are great and very much needed to push & keep the industry evolving, and I don't want to take away from that. This being said, here are some thoughts about some changes and things to consider if you are thinking about buying this:
1st - 18m waterproofness instead of 16m-- great! I get that 18m is the standard depth limit for open-water diving and it's very cool that the camera is on par and can handle this. But the average person going for a dive most likely won't reach 16m let alone 18m! And if the person does, chances are high that she/he is somehow invested in the sport, has a diving watch, and won't be guessing their depth. Also, if they ARE invested they WILL eventually go even deeper than 18m, then needing a case anyway. At that point, there's not much difference between the Action 3 and 4 anymore🤷 it's nice to have, but could've improved something more significant instead.
2nd - Larger sensor-- Obviously the major and best selling point for this newer version. Not much to say. It's amazing to see!
3rd - Image quality-- which goes hand in hand with the sensor and was one of the few and only, yet very important aspects, where many people preferred the GoProHero11 over the DJIOsmoAction3. A big selling point for GoPro! But DJI stepped up their game and might even be on top now!
4th - The Action4 is obviously here to compete with the current GoPro Hero11 & the coming Hero12. Yet, this camera still can't shoot 240fps @2,7k which I know doesn't bother most people (me included) but I've heard people complain about it on the Action 3 while the Hero11 already had it. So you would at least expect that DJI implements this in the Action 4, right? Yeah, but they didn't. They are now 2 generations behind GoPro. It's just a must at this point.
5th - Selling a separate GPS Bluetooth Remote Controller for € 80,- !! is really lame from DJI, honestly... not much to be said. Just disappointing. Just build it in like GoPro man, can't be that hard + it's not like you don't need to buy a ton of other accessories already anyways 🙄
DJI does have its advantages like the mounting, larger FOV, amazing charging "system", and now probably the better footage too.
This is GoPro's chance to really catch up! If GoPro fixes their problems (shutting down due to overheating or due to too cold of an environment, overall reliability and customer service) and makes a bigger sensor like DJI did too, it'll get kind of tough for DJI to be honest. Obviously or at least you would think so, they are gonna increase their prices too but it's not like DJI didn't anyways and if they keep the price increase at a minimum (and I mean that!) they'll be able to get some customers back and most importantly clean up what happened with the Hero11 while being in a more competitive price segment!
So, basically what I am trying to say is that the DJI Action 4 is a very minor upgrade from the Action 3 and the price difference basically lies on the improved sensor only... so if that's worth it for you, go for it.
I'd really consider the Action 3 for most people though. Even if you want the DJI Osmo Action 4, which is understandable given the better sensor (not understandable for any other improvement tho), I'd still wait to see if they have other problems like the previous version did in the beginning (that got corrected afterwards) or just to see how the GoPro Hero 12 compares. I feel like it's in GoPro's hands now. Interested to see how they will handle this, that'll be interesting for sure.
Couldn’t agree more! I actually tried it in the local store tonight, not much difference from action 3 expect better image quality. I’ll wait for GoPro 12 and see if there’s any major update. From my point of view the action 4 can’t even beat GoPro 11 in daylight mode.
I've gotta say that I agree with most of your points, but disagree with your conclusion. The sensor upgrade is a major jump and with those new image adjustment settings and low light setting, the footage coming out of this thing is a big jump from the 3. I think you're right that for most people, the 3 was plenty good enough, super reliable, and easy to use. But for users that prioritize image quality, a new sensor in a camera, especially when they make it bigger, is always a big jump.
Also, it does suck that you need a separate remote for GPS. That's lame.
You said all this to say nothing. Dji is still the better product because you can actually use it instead of it overheating 🤷🏾♂️
Biggest flaw of action 3 is focusing issue. They may fix that in action 4.

Great video like usual. Entertaining and informative. I have an off topic question for you. Sorry if this is the wrong platform to ask it in. I am living in a boat in the Caribbean on my trip of a lifetime. My planned go to camera for underwater, snorkeling and diving was going to be the Osmo action 1 generation. I am in a remote environment so replacement can be an issue. I am using a dive housing and can not stop it from fogging. I feel it’s too risky to use without the housing. I will be going home in a month. Is there a better option for underwater filming with an adventure camera. Has this problem been solved with the newer editions of the Osmo action. Any help would be appreciated

As for you fogging issue, I saw where he said that the waterproof level was bettered on the 4 down to 60ft. Not sure what the OG model is, but I bet you could use the 4 w/out a housing and that might help.

Still rocking Osmo Action 1, the heart of Osmo Actions camera is still using the same cpu. The only changes are the sensor and aperture, mic grill, front screen and smaller review screen.
Will wait for Action 6 or 8.

@@mtbohana I know it’s sourced from old FAT32 file system limitations (aka dark ages). And I know it has data safety advantages of mimimizing corrupted files. But EVERY other camaraderie has left this limit behind. And it’s infuriating (to me) to have to import 2-8 clips together. I LOVE the DJI action 3 and Pocket 2 but will NEVER use them again because of this limit. Instead I use my insta360 go3, insta360 onex, iPhone etc etc because they all let me create one ☝️ video file. I’ve just learned from Rainmaker channel that the Action 4 allows MUCH bigger files (over 17gb). But I am hoping DJI does an Action 3 firmware. Is it useful for long videos ? Like full football game 1 hour continuous recording???
With the low light mode only working in 30fps < I wonder if its actually shooting at 60fps and using the "spare" frames to do something like dark frame NR? Or maybe using a longer shutter speed, but then doing some computational photography witchcraft to stop the stabilisation go all wobbly?
I think it's just keeping the shutter higher and cranking the ISO to expose, which makes sense that it wouldn't do it in 60fps or else it would need to double the ISO to get the same exposure
Action 4 looks amazing and your daughters are the cutest! Makes me excited for the Pocket 3. Can't tell if they'll put the same sensor or -greedy me- a larger one.

I haven't done any HDMI testing with it, but it does have a native webcam mode! Plug it into your computer with a USB-C cable, and it immediately becomes a webcam🙌

Pulled my trigger on the 4, 8:16 you can see how crazy the noise reduction smooths out the face on action 3, I returned my action 3 for twice just because of this!!! And I have Osmo Action 1, my face is just way clearer than action 3.
Isn't that just "soft focus" issue that action 3 was famous for?
@@wildfox1994 No, I bought the 3 from DJI just 2 weeks ago, still the same. The soft focus is an assemble issue which can be easily fixed if you got the right tool. I think it's from noise reduction, my face looks just like when I add noise reduction in fcpx to my action 1 footage, annoying beauty mode imo.

Anyone know if (1) there's a remote for it that will work multiple cameras simultaneously, and (2) if you can power this externally, preferably without the battery inserted, and at the same time connect an external microphone to it?
I just got word back from DJI. Yes you should be able to power the OA4 without a battery, but there's no current way to share the USB-C connector. I hope someone comes up with a connector that passes through power from one USB C connection while accepting a microphone in another USB-C device. I wonder if there's some kind of splitter/bus that will do that? And yes, the Osmo Action GPS Bluetooth Remote Controller is supposed to control up to 16 cameras. Has anyone tried that out?
I heard the Action 4 can finally do a external mic and external power using a cell phone USB splitter or mic adapter that has a Power Delivery USB C passthru?

I shoot both a 360 camera and forward facing camera on most days. It's a tough call of which to go with, but I think if you're looking for that unique shot that 360 cameras give you, checkout the X3👍

Absolutely! The DJI filters slip over the top of your lens, so they'll be compatible with both models. But if you have third party screw on lens filters, like from Freewell, then they will not be compatible👍

What I really want to know is how rugged the Magnetic mount is and would it be strong enough to keep the camera attacked when Kayaking in White Water? It does look very impressive when stacked up to against the GoPro11. and even 12
I am wondering this as well. Have had 7 GoPros for WW Kayaking and am holding off until this gets figured out!
@@beardawgstudios Will we ever find out? My main concern is how strong is the connection point as it looks like it is small plastic clips, and we have had issues with small plastic clips giving out on other items, but don't hold an expensive camera.
I'd love a side by side comparison with the action 3. EG split screen action 3 | action 4. They are still selling the action 3 and I can almost see the reason for action 4 but here in oz the price difference is substantial.

The action 4 is a looking like a great camera but for my use case scenario the action 3 adventure pack is the same price as the standard action 4 and I need the spare batteries so is the low light functionality and the larger sensor really worth the extra coin for my use case? probably not but would love a 4 vs 3 video if it is possible
