Just a toy? You can cook pretty much anything with it. Did you watch the montage starting around 4:45 into the video? How is it not useful for a backbacker? Given its portability I'd think it's ideal.
Hmmm... Interesting idea. Everyone whose photos I've seen does it with the laces tied below. I do it so that it doesn't interfere with the positioning of the cooking pot and to keep the laces from getting too dirty from dropped liquids. I'll have to give it a try anyway. It's easy enough to tie it on the bottom and not do it on the ashfalt but I did it there because it was the best way to film it. The ashfalt gave a nice, large and even colored backdrop.
I know, you'd think, I watch a lot of these vid's to learn more, and most don't say any thing. I didn't see any other of your vid's yet, keep up the good work, Tony
It was around 335F (168C) just before I opened it up. But that will vary depending on how much food you have since it absorbs heat, how big the glass container is since it loses heat to the outside, how thick the glass is, how much wind there is, ... The important thing is that the carrots which went in fresh and were completely soft in an hour, or maybe less since I didn't check it until during the cooking.
I don't have a sun oven to compare it with. The sun oven has an enclosed box in order to keep the heat in the cooking area. With a copenhagen you put the cooking pot in a clear pyrex, glass or plastic container to get the same result, like I did in the video.
I don't recall the highest temperature. It differs based on time of year, type of glazing (glass enclosure), quantity and type of food. The temperature of the food is far more important than the temperature of the air between the cooking pot and the glazing. Certainly over 300F. I see you found my how-to-make video. I was just going to point it out. :) The commercially made one is a little better because I used aluminum foil for the reflective material, which is not as good as reflective mylar.
One more question. The wooden boards, could you tell me the dimension of those too please? My daughter is doing a science fair project, using a different kind of material for the reflective panels. She came up with her own design, of which we've gotten the temperature up to 225 degrees F, but it's not as portable as this design and we're hoping that this design will get the temperature higher. Thank you
I haven't tried it on windy days. However, it's fairly rigid and I'd imagine that as long as the pot is heavy enough, the wind would flow around it. Though there is the concern of the wind taking away too much heat from the pot. But as I said, I haven't tried it in wind.
just an idea what if u use a locking hoodie rope rune it threw the top and with the slide lock possition where needed and not have to keep track of the clips
Interesting idea. Though there isn't any place for the rope to emerge from, like with a hoodie, since it would have to emerge from different places at different times of the day.
Oh, wow. You're lucky you didn't burn the rug. That's a danger with fresnel lenses and parabolic dishes is that as the sun moves you can end up concentrating the light on something by accident and starting a fire. I'm glad to hear yours didn't.
How important is the use of the clear pyrex bowls if using a cast iron dutch oven for cooking? Can the same heat retention be maintained without the bowls?
I've never used a cast iron pot for cooking so I don't have the experience to say. From thinking about it I'd say it's just as important to have the clear pyrex bowl. A cast iron pot and an enamelware pot both lose heat at the same rate, assuming the same surface area. The difference is that the cast iron pot has more heat stored away. But water has around 10 times the specific heat capacity of iron. So adding more water to an enamelware pot would be the same as using a cast iron pot.
Love this design. Elegant. Effective. Simple. I made the one from his other video using poster board and foil. I may try again using mylar (a space blanket from Walmart for $2.08). But I wonder if anyone has tried making the panels out of aluminum flashing or another reflective metal. I want one that's not as delicate as poster board and foil.
Thomas Michael McClure Glad to hear it! It's a great cooker. Let them know where you heard about it from. The gasket was a piece of thick rubber-like material I got from a craft store that I cut to shape. It turned out to be not such a great idea as one time is got wet and then shrank from the heat. Now I get a length of bandage material, the type you wrap around sore joints, and just wrap it around when you see the gasket and attach the ends using the same pins that you normally use with those bandages. Here's the type I mean:www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Cotton-Crepe-Elastic-Bandage-White-wrinkles_1280663828.html?s=pI guess just have a look around for whatever might work.
I would suggest a 10" silicone gasket that would be used for a pressure cooker. Fagor is one manufacturer and they are sold on Amazon.com. You may have to do some trimming to make it work flat.
Yes, I boiled water to cook a hard boiled egg a few times last year. I don't remember exactly how long it took. I didn't watch for how long to boil but instead for how long until the egg was done. I think it was 30 minutes. However, I never checked for minimum required time. Your times may be totally different because it depends on how much water you put (around 500ml), what you use for glazing (my pyrex outer container), where you're located (I'm in Ottawa, Canada - the sun in California is much stronger), and the outdoor temperature (I did it in July and August).
Enjoy )))
Good video, but I found most of you making these videos do not tell people TO WEAR SUNGLASS'S, a must. My neighbor found out the hard way when he way with me outside, he didn't listen when I told him to get his, very important.
I do tell people in some videos, but it should be pretty obvious. The place I most emphasize it though is in my Fresnel lenses videos - for those you need welding goggles. That should really be obvious, though it's surprising how many people don't, Bizarre in fact.
How long does it take to fully cook a 9lb human baby? I am not going to cook him; I just need to know for reference. Please, tell me as soon as possible.
It's 3.5 minutes per pound dressed out....I'm, er...just guesstimating, though....yeah, that's it...GUESStimating! How else would I know....? I...I gotta go now!
This is freaking awesome! Kudos to the genius who devised this! Portable, too! Gotta get one!
Just a toy? You can cook pretty much anything with it. Did you watch the montage starting around 4:45 into the video? How is it not useful for a backbacker? Given its portability I'd think it's ideal.
It is brilliant, isn't it. Morphable reflector panels! My other five solar cookers are probably feeling neglected because of this one. Well worth it.
Wow this is wonderful masterpiece 🎉🎉. keep it up bro❤
I couldn't agree more! This Copenhagen is my favorite solar cooker.

Wow, I'm 10 years late to this! Thanks, very useful vid.

I just found your other video showing how to make this. Thanks alot, very helpful.
What did the temp get it inside your glass container?
A genius invention; a genius presentation. Respect!
The panels are 14.5 inches x 14.5 inches, around 36cmx36cm. My homemade ones are 14 inches x 14 inches.
I don't recall the highest temperature. It differs based on time of year, type of glazing (glass enclosure), quantity and type of food. The temperature of the food is far more important than the temperature of the air between the cooking pot and the glazing. Certainly over 300F.

Thanks about the presentation! I know the inventor is looking in on this video but I don't know if she has a youtube account and can respond.
Here I was gonna go and build one out of aluminum foil and old boxes! Wotta sap I was!!! Thanks again for the heads up, Rimstar!

Great job.. Can you tell me where you got the gasket that goes between the top bowl and the bottom Bowl? Thanks
what do you do about the windy day thank you i have a solar box but like this

@@RimstarOrg thank you very much
Also, using this design, what is the highest temperature you've gotten to?
Keeping you up at night?

Ordered one 8 weeks ago, still not arrived yet here in the UK...
LOL! Buddy has good taste!

if you make the wood part black it would help in heating it up even faster

Can using an oven bag work as well, efficiently, as the two pyrex bowls?
It's not as efficient, but it does work. I've successfully used an oven bag before.
Great job...I ordered one. Can you tell me what and where you got the gasket that goes between the two bowls?

could you tell me the dimensions of the panels please?
OLÁ, ESSE OVO DEMOROU QUANTO TEMPO PARA SER COZIDO ?
The beans that I cook at around 4:16 took around 1 hour.
Google translation: Los frijoles que cocino alrededor de las 4:16 tardaron alrededor de 1 hora.
Can you tell me, please where you got that small lidded graniteware pot?
I bought it at Walmart. It's part of a double boiler. It had a handle but I cut it off using a hack saw.
RimstarOrg Thank you so much!
So what did the temperature show when you opened it?
I didn't measure it.
Can this product actually boil water ? If so, how long would it take ? Have you actually done a boil ? Thanks
Yes, I boiled water to cook a hard boiled egg a few times last year. I don't remember exactly how long it took. I didn't watch for how long to boil but instead for how long until the egg was done. Can still find in the market?
I don't know. This is the website that used to sell them many years ago. You can try contacting them and asking sclaustoys.com/contact/
Thanks! :)

thank you !
Will do..cheers.
LOL! Because I hadn't noticed I was doing that.
I am in Haiti using solar ovens
Thank you
How do you bake cookies?
I didn't bake those. Some of those montage photos were furnished by the maker of the solar cooker at sclaustoys.com/Solar%20Oven.html.
Super. Idea.
How is the quality?
The quaility of the solar cooker? It's good. Fantastic reflectors, far better than using aluminum foil.
Cool
Naw, the kitty wasn't around by the time it was done. :(
Lot of set up time, but overall looks ok. I prefer the GoSun though.
i was hoping this was something that might be useful for a backpacker but from this video i see it is just a toy thanks.
Hope you offered some to the kitty......
Nice voice! :)
