Cooking from the sun is fantastic idea and well worth looking into. You never burn the food and it always tastes better. I have been using solar ovens for years and have owned a few of them.

I have had this same oven for years and I love it. After Hurricane Michael I used it here in the Florida Panhandle to cook up neighbors’ freezer contents for them so food wouldn’t go to waste after no electricity for two weeks. FEMA provided ice for their coolers. Sun Oven saved the day! 🌞

I've had one for years....they came here to Las Cruces and I bought one. I love it! I wrote about it on my blog years ago...oh, those sweet potatoes nestled in the pot...the swinging wire leveler works great. Yummy! Sun Oven does a lot of philanthropic work in underdeveloped countries...they even build community ovens for villages....I have a special table that I put it on when I don't want to put it on the ground...

I’ve had this oven for several years and love it! Meat comes out so tender and juicy with plenty of juice to make gravy. I’ve since moved from SoCal to Idaho and still use it, even with snow on the ground. It consistently reaches 325 up here, so I just cook foods a little longer. No worries of overlooking since it never burns.

The "All American Sun Oven " is nothing short of amazing !
Believe it or not, we have two of them ( we make room, that's how good they are) we often cook our dinner in one,and put a large pot of water in the other for doing dishes, washing up, making coffee/tea, ect... whatever you need hot water for.
Wouldn't be without, love them !

Nothing short of amazing is spot on!!! I know this isn't a contest, but I have 3 All American Sun Ovens and 1 All Season Solar Cooker (the yellow one that folds flat which also works extremely well, it just requires some figuring out). Back ribs, cheese cake, brisket, chicken and even did a 13 lb turkey for Christmas 6 years ago on the desert. I routinely do baked beans from raw (dry) and come out super tender. The beauty of this oven is that not only does it work extremely well, but it's dirt simple to use. Check Craigs List for used ones, most have only been used once or twice, not like there's anything to wear out!

I saw an interesting video by a UA-cam prepper showing how to make a small solar oven using a round bucket and an automobile sun shade. It's pretty minimalist and cooks only something small, but I thought it had enough value to try.

my friend got a big, old 6-ft tv dish and screwed together all the 'pie-slice' shapes to form the dish. then, he used MYLAR and plain old Elmer's Glue(!). the mylar did not get hot, but the sun-focused rays out above this 'nut-bar' contraption caused the test cardboard box to burst into flames(!) before he could finish saying "Hey, Dave! Look at this!!!" (lol)

I made a solar oven many years ago using plans from a book, "Fun With the Sun" I believe. It worked great. I made it out of sheet metal and had folding reflectors, and a tempered glass collecting opening. The opening was at a 45° angle, and had a door in the back. It was heavy, though.

Bob I am a retired Special education teacher. In my H.S. Environmental science class, my students would do a yearly projects. One was to design a solar oven ( with materials found at home) which could successfully cook a hot dog . Students loved this activity and over the years there were some truely remarkable ovens constructed in the classes .

I bought one that said I could use it to cook for a family. When I got this particular oven it wasn’t as big as it was advertised so I had it returned and I got a full refund. This one looks way bigger and I could even bake my homemade bread & my famous cinnamon rolls for my family and friends. I’m sure this Sun Oven cost more money today than way back when I was in the market to buy one that fit my needs. Great video sir. 👍

I have this same oven and am glad to have it in case of emergency and also just for the fun of cooking using the sun. It does take some practice when cooking baked goods, but WOW are blueberry muffins ever moist! One note to those wondering, this does not "brown" things. If people are looking for meat and baked goods that have that "browned" top/exterior, you will not get it with this. In an emergency that is not a priority, but in everyday life it might be something you want. One way to have the best of both worlds is to brown your meat and then cook it in the sun oven. My grandchildren love helping to cook meals in this oven.

We took several seminars at the Midwest Renewable Energy Fair in Wisconsin in the early '90s on solar cooking. I bought it when it was Global Sun Oven and we cooked a ton of chickens, soups, cookies, squash, and other recipes over the years. We always added cheese last when the dish was about to come out so the oils did not separate from the cheese. We never found the perfect answer to protect tipping in heavy winds, generally, we used small logs or rocks as found to steady it. It was stolen from our campsite at some point and we never bought another one, yet. Twenty years later it may be time to get another one. When we bought our first one you could get the wholesale cost if you bought 10 or more at once. So we found nine friends and got great savings, but don't let that stop everyone from getting it now!

    • @ivank196
      @ivank196 2 роки тому +2

I generally try to avoid using it when dealing with a south wind, but I have found ways of building wind shelters that are 90 per cent effective at reducing the buffering of the panels. I also made a stand using the swivel base to an office chair and screwing down a platform big enough to support the oven on it. I then tie a bungee cord around the leg and strap it to a screw on the underside of the platform. Works great!

Well I think I really will buy one of those solar ovens. Thank you for repeating the savings and repeating it thank you thank you for repeating. It really is important I know that now …thank you for the solar lesson. I have six panels on my house and my bill is only $14 /month most months for the whole entire year and I live in Central Maine. It’s attached to the water heater and for some reason it just gives the whole place electricity so that I don’t have much of a bill $14 it’s nothing.

Wow, if you use it every day for a year, that would be less than a dollar a day. To warm or cook food. You could cook a stew or soup from scratch and not spend 2 to3 dollars in fuel. Being insulated, with glass over the opening makes this solar oven very practical for cooking during colder temperatures. In the scouting program we have baked in foil lined boxes, near a fire. We also roasted over coals under a bucket. Both of those exercises took a massive amount of wood or charcoal and a lot of time tending a fire. They do make some solar ovens with reflex type materials that don't heat as quickly or well but do a decent job. Thank you for another great video. I may eventually get one of these for our camping property but in a minivan for two or our Jeep Patriot for one, this Solar oven just takes up too much real estate. Thank you again for another great video.

I love my All American solar oven! We use it mostly in the summer when it’s too hot to cook in the house. I have been carrying around with me for 10 years of weekend car camping a heavy rocket stove because I like going for a walk when I first get to a site and collect a 5 gallon bucket of dry sticks and am usually god for the weekend. Oneday I will have more room and can have a solar oven because I like making fresh muffins in the morning

I've always wanted a functional solar oven. Why pay for what the sun is providing for free! Thank you for your time, research and staff that tested this and brought the vid to fruition.

Try Craig's List in your area. I bought two from there, one in Phoenix ($150), the other in Yuma ($70)

You can also get a cover for the sun oven to keep the reflective panels from scratching.

I love my All American Sun Oven! I even use it to re-heat foods. Only struggle I have are the high winds where I am currently at.

I generally try to avoid using it when dealing with a south wind, but I have found ways of building wind shelters that are 90 per cent effective at reducing the buffering of the panels. I also made a stand using the swivel base to an office chair and screwing down a platform big enough to support the oven on it. I then tie a bungee cord around the leg of the oven and strap it to a screw on the underside of the platform. Works great!

I love my sun oven. A bit bulky but the food cooked in it is delicious. Unfortunately here in Southern Oregon I haven't seen the sun in weeks!

a windshield sun shade, black pot, and oven bag is a good entry into solar cooking - cheap and easy to store
for making a cardboard oven -mylar emergency blanket would be less apt to wrinkle than foil.

Hi Bob, Merry Christmas! We bought that same oven 7 or 8 years ago primarily for emergency use. We dont RV so space isn't a problem. Ours came packed with several pieces of cookware and was quite a bit less than the current price. We've cooked quite a few roasts, chicken, and lots of cookies! I use a rock to hold down the adjustment leg if it's tilted for a low sun angle or windy day. Also does a great job on a stew. Add taters, carrots, onions etc. Aim it a little before the sun, go on a hike etc. And several hours later it'll be perfectly cooked and still very hot. All without tending to it.
    Cheers, Rich

It looks like a great idea. I'd take a shot a building one before dropping $500 on one though.

I think I would like the fold flat version better, it's a space thing, but this one looks pretty nice if you've got the space. Keep the good stuff coming Bob and for those watching please donate to HOWA, almost everyone can spare a buck a month.

don't forget ...the broth left over could have been used to make a nice white chicken gravy and at the same time as the chicken was baking you could have baked some potatoes and heated some vegies for a more complete dinner all in your solar oven ... yum so I would defiantly use one of these ... I must give this some thought
