hello everyone, thanks for tuning in. Thanks for your kind and encouraging comments and and it means a lot to me. 📍UPDATE: One-year progress: ua-cam.com/video/MRM5ajFK-88/v-deo.html Just an update on my violin-learning journey, I've found myself a violin teacher in late May (on around Day 260), so I am currently not self-teaching anymore. Also I wanted to say, I started to learn the violin by self-teaching not because I wanted to but because I could not financially afford a violin teacher (I was a student when I started). I made this video NOT to prove that violin can be learnt by self-teaching !
Even though learning through self-teaching wasn't your intention, it still inspired me, because that's what I want to do with many, many things I'm interested in.
Great job! For several years I taught myself violin as well. In 2019, I sought out lessons with a teacher, after about a year of barely touching my violin due to depression.
Great progress, it's nice to see your tone improve as the months went by! I posted my 3 years progression recently and it's nice to see other adult beginner's journeys 😁👏🎻
hello Peter, thanks for your comment ! I just went to your homepage and watched your progress video. I have to say your tone is way much better than me in the first several months 👍
Thank you so much! I had a slight advantage as I've had years of piano knowledge before hand which really helped my violin playing. You're doing extremely well and I hope you keep up your wonderful journey. Looking forward to more videos from you, subbed! ⭐
I'am self taught violinist too ive been playing for 1yr .. and you actually inspired alot of people to keep going and never give up to their dreams.. Keep going you are awesome😊😊😊❤
LESSGGGOOOOOO. This is so good. I resonate with this so much because I've been playing guitar for about 8 years now (not self taught), but I wanted to go through the learning experience again, so I bought myself a lefty guitar and started self learning. Still on day 42, but its nice to see people on the grind likewise.
Thanks 🥰 Yes, I do agree that having a teacher would be better. But it is financially difficult for me to hire a teacher 🥲. I will find a teacher as long as I can.
I've been playing for about 3 months and I have a fast progress since I can play guitar too. I think, there is advantage if you already had experienced with guitar. The problem with self taught is we can't read notes haha unless you have time to study it.
I havent watched the video yet but I saw “self-taught” and “violinist” in the title and I just wanted to warn you- Violin is extremely frustrating to learn even WITH a teacher. Of course, it depends on how serious you want to take it, but as Tobias Murphy says: theres no pleasure in mediocrity. I highly recommend getting a skilled teacher that can correct form and technique to protect you from unnecessary tension and pain which is almost inevitable when self teaching this extremely nuanced instrument. If you still want to self teach yourself, you should try to spend a lot of time researching proper technique. I recommend Grigory Kalinovsky, Murphy Music Academy (Tobias Murphy), and Daniel Kurganov on youtube for guidance. Best of luck!
hello thanks for your comment ! I agree with what you said but I share this video NOT to mean that I want or I am able to learn the violin by myself. I didn't want to give up this interest because I didn't have a teacher (I was a student without income when I started) Luckily now I am learning from a violin teacher and I'll keep going !
I think you have placed the sticker for the 4th finger a little higher... That's why your third position sounds out of tune... Please check with a tuner. Also try to curve your right pinky on the bow. Great progress👏👏. Keep it up!
Hi thanks ! I had some problems with my first violin. I checked with a tuner but still it sounded out of tune. But I changed to a new violin in the 4th month. I think it is better. For the bow hand, yes my pinky was straight all the time but I changed it in the 3rd or 4th month.
@@Claire-wonderfulland Very glad to hear, keep on going! 但是.. 我覺得您是否經常感到焦慮、緊張或精神緊繃? Because it's right there when you draw the strings. It seems to me you feel anxious and unsure 😔 My previous teacher would recommend practicing open strings as a daily warm-up and distribute the weight of the bow evenly to make an even sound. Attack the note with more confidence as if you were singing!!
I’m struggling to hold a bow properly. I can’t hold it with bend pinky as I had a long nail (I can’t cut it as it’s connected to a thin layer of flesh) what to do😵💫
hello, sorry I don't know how to anwser this question. Maybe you can pose this question to violin teachers who have posted videos about bow holding. I hope they will anwser your question ! Good luck !
Seriously amazing! I love seeing progessions like this. I think I would have to first teach myself how to hold a habit, then learn how to read sheet music. 😑 😅
ua-cam.com/video/KEsbMVzRlds/v-deo.html I made a video about two violins. You can have a look. The second one is a Fiddlerman Master Violin (fiddlershop.com/products/fiddlerman-master-violin-outfit)
Hmm...I think you're notes are all sharp due to finger misplacement. Minuet in G was sharp. The first note was Eb in stead of D...I am trying to transition from violin to guitar and the distances between the note fingerings are very slight. If you go too far down: it's too sharp, and too high up, (from the note you are trying to play that is,) it's, oppositely, too flat. violin is a very tricky instrument to learn without a teacher if you don't have perfect pitch, or any idea how string instruments work. It is apparent you know music theory, and a teacher might be necessary to more effectively help you with technique.
You have the commitment. Now you need a teacher to work on your bow hold. and violin position. I would suggest that you listen to recordings many hours a day; in the car, while you shop, while you prepare dinner., in the bath etc....just like Suzuki students. I hate to discourage you but you do have a rhythm problem (which cannot be fixed) and an issue with intonation.
hello, I had some problems with my first violin. I checked with several tuners but still it sounded out of tune. But I changed to a new violin in the 4th month. I think it is better.
@@Claire-wonderfulland This is because I'm pretty sure your strings were basically 1 octave too low 😆. Anyways pretty good progress in 6 months but you're trying to learn third position too fast, you should practice to make your fingers in tune in the first position before getting more complex.
Truly incredible! I love seeing progessions like this. I think I would have to first teach myself how to hold a habit, then learn how to read sheet music.

Great job. Just started learning too... This is very encouraging for me...
Glad to hear that!
Great job. I am an adult beginner and i really appreciate your progress in playing even for a short period of time.
Thanks !

Hmm how about checking the tempo with metronome help? :)
It works wonderful to me as a beginner playing strings in her 30's :)

Hello thanks for your comment. Yes I am right now practicing pieces with metronome for sometime to be in tempo.

The violin is the hardest instrument. I go to school and my teacher always scolds me😂but i never angry with him

You should practice scales that will help you a lot.just a suggestion..it will help a lot.

(In the first part) Im srry but that’s not a violin it’s a viola (unless if it’s out of tune but still sounds like a viola)
hello the first violin (in first 3 months) was out of tune - you are right. but I imagine thata violist would say 'no, this is not viola !!!' 😂

Great try! You may still need to check your tunes and rosin. I feel your rosin on the bow is not smooth.
yes sure, now i tried to use toothbrush to brush the hair sometimes.
