My wife and I were looking at U.P. "hunting" properties for seven years until 2020. I thank God daily for leading us to the Ozarks. Here, no grown man would dare show up with a buck younger than 3-1/2yrs old scoring at least 120". You just don't shoot the typical "Michigan four pointer" or even a "basket 8". You get more respect for shooting a "management buck" with your firearms tag. I lived in Michigan ten years. Life is better in the Ozarks...the people and climate are a lot warmer. The godliest folks I've ever lived amongst. ;-)
Deer camp is never about the DEER, it is always about the comraderies that are formed and renewed each year. The camp I was part of in Northern Wisconsin had three elderly hunters who took their first Whitetail buck when they were 10-12 years old in the 1890's!! I loved those Model 1894's they carried in .38-55 caliber. What a "brush gun." Bacon and eggs, steaks seared in a cast iron skillet and a stack of hotcakes on the griddle. Enjoy the CAMP. it is some of the best time you'll ever have.
I appreciate that you reported the buck you shot. It was really close and you could easily have just taken it home. It shows what kind of man you are. Best of luck the rest of the way!!
I am posting here because this is the first of your videos I watched. I have been watching your channel all weekend now. Your videos remind me of when I would watch Fred Trost on Michigan Out of Doors with my father. Going out for the first time in 20 years this year and my father is gone now but I remember going to deer camp with him the few years we went. Your videos are bringing back memories of then as well. Wish we had gone more and spent more time together like that over the years. I don't know why we stopped going. Damn its hard to think about all this. Anyway, I love what you are doing here. We need more men promoting being good fathers and family men. Showing good healthy friendships between men. Keep doing what you are doing.
Sorry for my delayed response, I just saw your kind comment this morning. I have fond memories watching Fred Trost with my dad back in the day. We're glad you're enjoying the channel. Good luck this season bud!
I was born and raised in Livonia Michigan. But moved to Tennessee in 2003. Even though I love the deer hunting down here I do miss those snowy days during deer season. It was a pleasure to watch y'all enjoy your deer camp. Thank you for the great video.
Awesome video Ben - it's sad that they had to take your buck... Your an honest guy & it showed in your video.. At least you have the video for memories most people don't even have that... Great opener !!
Great to hear you share your faith in Christ gentleman. One of my best memories going to the U.P. was stopping at a Ma/Pa restaurant in Cadillac. Me and my brothers were the only ones in the restaurant. I said grace and the owner came up and said "It's great to see men praying." You should of seen the smile on my brother's faces! Hope you had a great time together.
You’re a real sportsman! I bet you’d enjoy hunting mule deer in my little corner of Montana. We hunt whitetails along the river bottom and mule deer up in the high ground. All the best during the 2023 season!
So happy for you. The smile on your face and the face of your friend from Florida was special. It's always a "trophy" when shared with friends and family, not to mention venison steaks on the grill. Always enjoy your videos. I passed a smaller 6 on opening day here in the thumb area. Always a gamble passing on any buck, but the joy of the hunt is in the memories made. #LoveCampBenny👍
I am super excited to watch this video, I’ve been waiting for it all year. Benny I commend you for your honesty! You definitely did the right thing. I missed rifle season this year because of the passing of my father. This video helps me feel like I was still part of the season.I will be out all next week though for black powder.I can’t wait for part two
Sorry about the loss of your father Karl. I recall you sharing about him during our recent visit. He will be greatly missed. You're in our thoughts and prayers. Good luck in muzzleloader!
Great video Ben. Sorry about the deer, but your honesty is world's apart from most. our WI camp got skunked this year but we had fun. it's always about the people and the memories. deer are just an added bonus. Best of luck for the remainder of the season.
Integrity. Much respect for a man that walks with honor. No deer camp so I really look forward to watching some Camp Benny! Looking forward to Ontario hunt.
Awesome video guys!!! Great times, great food, great friends…..what more could a man ask for👍👍👍. Huge show of ethics and morals to report yourself, perfect way to represent us outdoorsmen in a positive way, thanks for showing us in a positive light.
Looks like a great start to Deep Camp- my favorite time of year. Bummer that they took the deer, but at least you were honest and transparent about it all.
Enjoyed Ben and am looking forward to part 2. Sorry about your buck. We had a couple spikers running around and I had to be super careful while scoping them to make sure they weren't does. I have never owned good hunting binos but will be picking a pair up to help these old eyes identify dear! Hope your having a nice weekend!
Thanks for watching Mark ! Good binos are definitely nice to have. I have a pair of Vortex Diamonback binos in 10x42 I believe. Almost done with editing Part 2. Hope to get that out by Saturday. Take care buddy !
Thanks for sharing you hunts with us! Those bucks are big bodied deer. At 100 yards the difference in 3/4” and 1” is undetectable could have been 1-1/4” just as easy. Could happen to anyone. You are a true sportsman!
Your a honest ethical hunter. It's a shame that they had to take him but I've been around and there has to be a line in the sand. But it's a privilege to have you as a fellow sportsman. Thanks again a real real hunting video ! 👍
I just seen this video for the first time. I have decided to subscribe due to the fact that you all prayed before you left for camp. That speaks volumes my friends as to what the nature of this video will be like. And I'm happy with the result. You have a permanent subscriber. Thank you men for a awesome video. God Bless and keep safe.
What a great crew of guys carrying on a great tradition! Takes a standup hunter to do the right thing and share that with your viewers...good on you! Sounds like DNR appreciated your honesty as a sportsman and treated you fairly (as they should). Anyway, you guys look like you have an absolute blast at deer camp! Great camaraderie is certainly shared while enjoying our greatest past time. Keep gettin' after it boys!🤙🦌
Great video I’m really glad you did that with your deer I know it was a hard thing to do but the right thing great job can’t wait for part 2 thank you for the excitement I know I will keep watching

Subscriber here since your 2019 hunting season and I really enjoy watching your camp and your hunts. Way to be honest with your buck! Not many would do that. Here in Wisconsin, we don't have restrictions like Michigan does, but there has to be at least 1 point of 3 inches or bigger to register as a buck. Opening day this year I shot the only deer I saw, which I thought was a doe and it ended up being a 5 pointer with the rack being only about 4 inches long on both sides. I never even saw the rack on the deer when I decided to pull the trigger and I'm glad I did! God blessed my family and I with some meat in the freezer this year and I couldn't be any happier for that! Bummer you didn't get to keep your deer though. At least you have it on film to tell the story years from now! Also glad you feel better this year for deer hunting, vs last year with Covid! I ended up with Covid a 2 weeks before I went bow hunting this year - my first time with it and it went away about 4 days before I left for deer camp! Shot and missed a nice buck that weekend with my cross bow at about 40 yards. Oh well! I'd rather miss than wound it!
Thanks for your words of encouragement and for being a subscriber. Interesting how the antler point restrictions work over there. I'm going to hunt over in Wisconsin one of these falls. Congrats on your deer Stephen! 🦌
Finally got time to sit down and watch all these videos that I have stacked up for the last few weeks. Weird not seeing your bro in the passenger seat this year but it was nice seeing buddy fill that vacancy, hope he had as good of a time as it looked like he did. Takes a true sportsmen to mention their mistakes but I'm glad you did and the meat went to someone in need. I finally made it back up to the U P this year for a couple days. I haven't been across the bridge in 11 years and a buddy of mine that has a place up by singleton invited me up this year so I made it back up and boy did it fell good. His dad shot a dandy 9 pointer last year on opening day and fell ill a few days later from the illness that doesn't deserve its name to be mentioned and he passed away December 9th up there from it so I think it meant a lot to my buddy to have as many close friends up there with him this year and we had a blast. Best of luck the rest of the season and be careful out there fellas.
Thanks for watching and commenting Bill. 👍🏻 Sorry to hear about your buddy's father passing up there last year. I recall praying for someone last year around that same time based off a comment on one of my videos and am thinking it may have even been for your buddy's dad. Great that you were able to make it back up there again. Merry Christmas !! 👍🏻
Outstanding part 1 video. You have captured the anticipation of the season and what deer hunting is all about. Looks like a much better start to the season than last year. So sorry to hear about the buck, but goes to show you are a stand up guy for doing the right thing. Thanks so much for a great video. Our season is over and I can’t wait for the next season, it’s going to be a long year. LOL Regards Mark
Thanks for watching and your supportive comment Mark. Yes, it's definitely a much better start than last year. I hear ya about it's going to be a long year. Hope you had some luck over in your neck of the woods.
Hey Ben and crew great video to bad for the short coming that must be hard to judge on length. We are lucky here in Ontario but if you only have a buck tag you have to be careful with the little spikes. My dad and I had anterless tags so what's brown is down more or less. Wasn't able to hunt gun season because of work but I did make a short trip to my property and shot a little 6 point with the crossbow. Well can't wait for part 2 love the videos Ben👍
@@campbenny no thank you for doing the hunting videos and entertaining us. Glad the dnr didn't give you a hard time over the deer, I thought he was legal but the tape measure isn't wrong I guess.
I have watched a lot of UA-cam deer camp videos. I want to thank you for using great gun safety! Walking with actions open etc. There are some cringeworthy gun handling videos when post shot emotions are running high! Great video!! Thanks and be safe!
Thanks for watching and noticing the gun safety aspect. I was a hunter Ed instructor for 10 years and thankfully developed at least a few good habits. Have a great weekend!👍🏻
Really impressed with your honesty and transparency. Those laws can be really tough, we have a 3 inch antler minimum in Maine, you make your best estimation and go with it. can't put a tape on it until it's dead.
Bout time!!!! Lol jk I've been waiting for this to drop. Your videos are great 👍 I live in Michigan and never hunted in the upper peninsula. Pick me up next year on your way up lol
Sorry to hear that Paul. Many camps are reporting a similar experience as you. Our law makers really need to do something productive for the situation or many will give up.
@campbenny I agree. With the diminishing snow conditions and wolf #'s rising...the upper is taking a big hit as far as economy goes. Less snowmobilers and less hunters. Something needs to be done.
Enjoy watching your videos every year at UP deer camp. I make the drive up every year from allendale for a week in Gods country. We hunt east of Bruce crossing area. Curious what county you guys hunt in since I have hunted a few different counties in the UP. I understand not putting your location out there though. Good luck the rest of this season and in years to come.
Thanks for watching and commenting Jason !👍🏻 Not sure if we'd discussed this before but we're practically neighbors. We're pretty connected with the allendale community. Small world. 😆
@@campbenny I believe u mentioned going to town for lunch in the video. Any UP recommendations on a few good places to stop and eat? Always looking for a good place to try. Jacks in rapid river is one of our favorite breakfast spots to hit. Hear good things about Moofin fries on 2 but have yet to stop and try it.
As I was watching y'all unloading that trailer and carrying everything into that trailer I could not help but wonder, "Where are you going to put all of that gear?!"
I noticed that Brian at 5:10 of the Video was using a 30-30 with the Remington soft nose Ammunition. I highly recommend him checking with a gun expert and switching to the Hornady Lever Revolution Ammunition. It will improve accuracy and performance as well as distance. I have the same exact gun in a .35 and I can attest to 100 yd pinpoint accuracy and you don’t have to track far.
I used to be in boy scouts and used to camp in snow and I found out to wear articles of clothes that are 100% wool even if they get wet you will stay warm
As a fellow Michigander living in the northern part of the LP I wanted to say hey! Nice shooting, awesome video, the editing and quality of your videos are severely underrated for your sub count, keep at it! Oh and after 6 years hunting I finally shot my first deer so I been binge watching hunting content, 130" 8 point I hit the lottery somehow not sure how I top it!
Where do you guys hunt out of? We are located in DMU 021. WE appreciate your honesty and the vulnerability you showed. That is what makes a true sportsman a sportsman.
Thanks for watching and supportive comment. Really means a lot. I'm only able to disclose location as the "UP". Unfortunately, we've had uninvited viewers show up to camp already. I'm sure you wouldn't do that but someone reading this might.
@Camp Benny Oh I completely understand that. I really enjoy watching your videos. They have inspired me to start filming out of our camp. I hope all of you boys have a Merry Christmas and keep shooting straight.
Michigan dnr is usually fair when you report your own poaching. I'm sure we all heard if a point holds a ring its a point. Unfortunately in today's restricted deer areas, which seems to flip without any news leaves us most of us hunters unaware of changes made. Fishing, hunting, upland hunting. Our dnr needs to be more open and announce these changes.
Totally enjoyed the video. From all the comradery to the excellent outdoor footage it made me feel like I was right there. Awesome work guys . I was surprised to learn what happened with your buck. Geeze that must of been tough. But what can you do and my hat is off to you for being honest and upfront. Takes a real good person to do what you did. Btw do you have any footage from the Ontario hunt ? I was curious as to how that went. Cheers Lads !
Thanks so much for watching and your kind comment Ian. I do have footage and need to finish up editing the Ontario hunt yet. I hope to get that out after I complete all the u.p. episodes. Have a GREAT week !

LOL
Regards
Mark
Thanks for watching and your supportive comment Mark.
Yes, it's definitely a much better start than last year.
I hear ya about it's going to be a long year.
Hope you had some luck over in your neck of the woods.
Well done Benny, on all accounts.
Thanks for watching Greg !
I have been waiting for you guys to post a video this year, super excited for you all, love the camp benny stuff, congratulations guys
Thanks for watching buddy ! 👍🏻
Thanks for watching and commenting buddy! Congrats on your buck 👍🏻
Nice congrats on the success at camp this year guys. Glad the old china flu didn't get you boys this time
Thanks for watching Aric !
@@campbenny no thank you for doing the hunting videos and entertaining us.
Glad the dnr didn't give you a hard time over the deer, I thought he was legal but the tape measure isn't wrong I guess.
Coffee in hand been waiting!
Thanks for watching bud !!
Great start to the season. Too bad they took the deer. Hopefully it went to someone in need of meat. Looking forward to part 2.
Thanks watching and commenting buddy. Hope you're having a great deer season over at your camp.
Yep, coffee and Camp Benny...here we go! 🦌🦌
Thanks for watching!!
Got my cup also
If you eat your lunch before nine am ,,you ain’t gonna be there when it gets dark ,,ha ha ha ha
@@bobbygreen2291 thanks for watching buddy !
Great video as always watching from Alabama yall should come down sometime!!! And I might be a volunteer for work week never hunted Michigan!
We're going to get down there one of these ! Thanks for watching!!
Really impressed with your honesty and transparency. Those laws can be really tough, we have a 3 inch antler minimum in Maine, you make your best estimation and go with it. can't put a tape on it until it's dead.
Thanks for watching and your feedback Mark ! Hope you had a fantastic Maine deer season.
Bout time!!!! Lol jk I've been waiting for this to drop. Your videos are great 👍 I live in Michigan and never hunted in the upper peninsula. Pick me up next year on your way up lol
Thanks so much for watching and commenting Mikey ! We'll let ya know if get an open bunk at deer camp next season !! 😆
Awesome lol I'll do the cooking
Sounds good buddy 👍🏻
Awesome part 1, can't wait for part 2! I see you're missing some people at camp this year.
Thanks for watching buddy !👍🏻
love these videos hope you guys had some luck this season!!!
Thanks for watching buddy 👍🏻
My friend took one because of the same thing but it was just over 1”. It’s great that someone will get the venison. Can’t wait for part 2.
Thanks for watching Dennis !
Our camp is North west of Seney. We have been struggling past few years. 10 days straight in the woods last year and not a single deer.
Clyde's is a definite before/after crossing the bridge!
Coffee and camp Benny!! Let’s go!!!
Thanks so much for watching Trent !👍
Congrats on the nice Buck! Looks like a dryer recovery than you and I had! :)
Hahaha! You're right about that buddy. Thanks for watching and your comment!
As I was watching y'all unloading that trailer and carrying everything into that trailer I could not help but wonder, "Where are you going to put all of that gear?!"
Hahaha. It reminds me of a clown car. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@campbenny 😆
Hey Benny just lemonade in them red solo cups right? 😜
Definitely! 🤪
Congrats all! Most of all, I hope you appreciate the fellowship!
Thanks buddy 👍🏻
I noticed that Brian at 5:10 of the Video was using a 30-30 with the Remington soft nose Ammunition. I highly recommend him checking with a gun expert and switching to the Hornady Lever Revolution Ammunition. It will improve accuracy and performance as well as distance. I have the same exact gun in a .35 and I can attest to 100 yd pinpoint accuracy and you don’t have to track far.
Thanks for watching and sharing your knowledge Ted !
By the book! Good on ya, for that. Not all folks operate as such, sadly.
Thanks for watching and your kind comment. Good luck this season 👍🏻
I used to be in boy scouts and used to camp in snow and I found out to wear articles of clothes that are 100% wool even if they get wet you will stay warm
Luke and Nick are Eagle scouts. Thanks for watching Mike
@@campbenny I love your deer camp videos
As a fellow Michigander living in the northern part of the LP I wanted to say hey! Nice shooting, awesome video, the editing and quality of your videos are severely underrated for your sub count, keep at it! Oh and after 6 years hunting I finally shot my first deer so I been binge watching hunting content, 130" 8 point I hit the lottery somehow not sure how I top it!
Thanks so much for watching and for your kind feedback.
Congrats on your dandy buck buddy !!
@@carlscamp Merry Christmas buddy !
I was going to ask how long is a point there,it looked small haha but none could miss it with a scope
@kylebarcomb6192 thanks for watching 👍🏼
New subscriber. Love the hunting camp. Miss that from growing up. What camera do you use? Your footage is great. Thanks for sharing your story.
Thanks for watching and subbing Chad!
Really appreciate it. Hope you are having a great season. My main camera is a Sony ax700.
Thanks for watching ! Hope you had a great season.
@@campbenny deer committed high crime of hiding there antlers during daylight
Tagged my first Michigan deer with muzzleloader, muzzleloader opening day from a non tropical treestand
So it has to have 3 points on 1 side that are at least 1” ?
That was a nice buck but that 3rd point seems iffy.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing
Yes, 1" minimum. It was one inch on the side but not from the center of the tine.
I never woching u all lol
